Sacramento, CA – On November 7, a California Highway Patrol officer pulled over a woman driving erratically near the town of Natomas.  The woman told the officer that she was on her way to a medical emergency, so the officer followed her to an apartment on Zurlo Way. As the car pulled in, someone ran out of the apartment holding three-year-old Manuel “Manny” Maciel. Manny had been beaten so badly that he was barely alive. Two days later, little Manny died of his injuries. Nobody had called 911 to save him.
Manny’s mother, Rosalie Renee Uribe, 23, had moved in with Joseph Skates, also 23, and her three sons. Rosalie’s little boys were aged five, four, and three. Manny was the baby.
Despite a history of fights and physical abuse, Rosalie decided that her boyfriend was the best caregiver for her sons and often left the boys at home with Skates, who didn’t like Rosalie’s children or Manny’s father, Javier Maciel.  Maciel’s family says that they let Rosalie, Javier and the children live with them until Rosalie left to move in with Joseph Skates, taking her boys with her. Until that time, the Maciel family had cared for the boys while Rosalie worked at Wal-Mart. After Rosalie moved, everything changed.
On the day Manny was beaten to death, his mother left him and his brothers with Skates while she was out. That’s when police say Joseph Skates beat little Manny so severely that he was almost unrecognizable. Someone – police won’t say who, but it’s probably Rosalie – called Manny’s grandmother to hurry to the home.
Skates didn’t call 911 to get help. Neither did Rosalie Uribe. It took a traffic stop to alert anyone of a problem. Had that CHP officer not stopped Grandma, it’s possible that Manny would have died at home, then disappeared – and because Manny’s father Javier was an illegal immigrant, nobody might have noticed that the child was gone outside the family.

9. Joseph Skates lit out for Oregon to get across state lines. Javier Maciel was placed on an immigration hold and deported. And Rosalie Uribe cried on her Myspace about her poor dead baby and how surprised she was that her man could hurt a child.
Except that police say she shouldn’t have been surprised at all. Investigators turned up evidence of prior abuse, and statements Rosalie had made regarding Skates’ treatment of her children. I guess that wasn’t enough to stop her leaving them with him.
Last week, Joseph Skates was caught in Medford, Oregon. He is being held there on suspicion of homicide and is awaiting extradition to California, where he will be charged with murder.
Rosalie Uribe was arrested on Tuesday and charged with three counts of child endangerment: one for her five year old son, one for her four year old son, and one for Manny. She is now out of jail after posting her $50,000 bond. Maybe she’ll swing by and tell us why her penis was more important than her children.

We’re going to be getting a lot of Skates supporters. I was reading one of the links provided in the forums and whooo…there are 35 comments on one of them and all of them are saying he wouldn’t do it cause he loved kids. Fuck that. He’s a child abuser who has past history of it with these children. It’s good that they arrested both of them. He beat the child, she failed to get medical attention. Her myspace also says that she’s confused. What the fuck are you confused about? Your child died because of the actions you did not take to save him. As for the child beater, I hope he gets what’s coming to him in jail. They don’t like baby beaters.

I wasn’t aware that working at Wal-mart yielded wages that could cover finding adequate childcare for 3 babies…oh, that’s right, she left her kids with a childkiller. I hate people. Stories like this make me feel better about staying single since my son’s father left me while I was pregnant. Even if I was dating I wouldn’t leave my kid with the guy. She is a worthless excuse for a mother. That and going by that picture, she had no concern for keeping her children safe in the car either. No one there ever called 911, only the cops did after someone came out carrying a 1/2 dead Manny in his arms. Why is it so important to mention a cousin who slept through the whole thing?? He wasnt in charge of watching Manny, Joe was.
Why is it important when Rosalie was called? even if it was after the ambulace, that the COPS CALLED, it still means Manny was left with a person who had a history of abuseing him on top of that Manny was left with adults who were affraid to call the cops becasue they would go to jail and get deported like the Bio-daddy did, so strike 2 on your skanky ass.

All of you dumbasses dont know any of the facts so you all need to shut the fuck up. Just to let you know joe skates wasnt the only one in the apartment so its a good possibility that maybe the other fella there did it. there is a whole lot more to the story than what you all think you know so dont say shit. I know for a fact that there was neglagent incidents involving the mother that happened weeks prior to this whole situation and not involving joe and she refused to get medical help for the child.
Beware there is a whole lot more to this story than what you think happened.
