Charleston, W.VA.–Gary Wayne Garretson had a little game he liked to play with his 3-year-old son. It went something like this: Gary would point an unloaded 12-gauge shotgun at the toddler and say, ‘I’m gonna get you!’ His son Anthony would say, ‘You can’t get me Daddy!’ Gary would point the gun and pull the trigger. Sounds like tons of fun, doesn’t it? They had played that game in the past and everyone lived through it. Not this time.

afternoon, the game was on again. This time, the gun was loaded. This time, Anthony Garretson was shot..in the face. Wow Daddy! You really got him this time! No more fun little shotgun games for Anthony, he’s dead. He’s dead because his father lacks the common sense to know that pointing a gun at anyone, loaded or unloaded, is a bad idea. Pointing a gun at your child’s face, pulling the trigger, and making a game of it is not only a bad idea, it borders on fucking insane! WTF ever happened to peek-a-boo?
There are those of you that will wonder where Anthony’s mother was. She’sShe reviews dead. Hopefully her death has nothing to do with being a participant in the shotgun game. Police state that she died in another state and that it was unrelated to this case. I guess it’s safe to assume that Gary is a widowed single father. Gary and Anthony were alone when this happened. Gary told police he didn’t know the gun was loaded.
Gary Garretson was arrested and charged with child abuse resulting in death. He is being held in Southern Regional Jail on a $500,000 bond.

You never ever point a gun at a child! Or at anyone for that matter unless you intend on shooting them! Stupid fucking idiot! I have no compassion for him!
And who’s to say it happened the way he said it did? Maybe he planned on killing little Anthony and this is his excuse?
We never even let our kids have toy guns except for the big water guns as it’s barbaric to play shoot em up!!

More people are killed with “unloaded” weapons, than with loaded ones. IE: Not a good idea to point any ballistic weapon at anybody if you don’t intend to use it for self-defense, or the defense of others. Backwoods daddy KNOWS it, and, was probably taught that as a young child… Hmmmmm…
BTW: Does anyone else hear a lot of banjos playin’ in the backround when ‘ya look at this asshats’ picture?

Do you think that maybe he looks a little like a rough-shod Henry Winkler? Whats up with his forehead though? It’s like slanted …. I NEVER allowed my kids to play with guns.. They are still like that today with their own children. His story sounds a little like red herring.. Were there any other witnesses? How do we know what he intended? I don’t like it one bit.. This makes even less sense than the usual “explanation.” If they’ve played this “game” before with an unloaded gun, then how the hell did the gun get loaded in the meantime? Does he not remember loading his gun sometime between the previous game session and this one? Does he suffer from some kind of sleeploading syndrome? Did someone break in and load it? Did the 3 yr-old have some kind of Ninja Gun-loading Skillz?
I think maybe someone was just tired of being a single father.
How surprised he’ll be to find out that Bubba’s penis is fully cocked and loaded.

So this is why rednecks get a bad name……..This guy is seriously messed up and unfortunately his son paid.
This is hard for me because I am torn between gun control laws. On one hand you should have the right to bare arms. I mean you do need to protect yourself. On the other hand idiots like this should never be allowed a gun. What do you do? When I hear a story like this it really puts me on the fence.

Just recently around here, a 7 year old girl died after retrieving a gun for her father, who was cleaning them. She handed it to him and it fired.
Me? I’m all for gun ownership. What I’m not for is casually involving young children in that particular activity. Sadly, people’s stupidity will continue to result in the death of children.

We can’t stop them. I mean, the stupidity of parents kills babies all the time, be it an unsecured pool, unsecured poisons under the sink, a lack of seatbelts, mommy’s gangsta penis, etc. Taking guns away doesn’t make any more sense than taking backyard pools away. For as long as there are stupid people, there will be stupid deaths, unfortunately.

I happen to know this dumb ass. Let me start by saying I am not sticking up for him in no way, but he is not a hick. Even though he lives in WV now, he grew up in Chicago, he has only lived in WV for about a year. Now that out of the way, I will say he is a drunk and a drug user. He has many children that he has nothing to do with, and why when the little one’s mother died she left him to Gary I will never understand(from my understanding she died from aids.) He would have been better off with a pack of wolves. Gary is an idiot and I am sure his punishment will not be severe enough.

This case needs to be looked into a little further, little anthony has a sister who lives with relatives because her mother, also anthony’s mother supposely committed suicide a year ago. This man needs to be looked at extremly well. 2 deaths in a year, I am glad the sister is with relatives or who knows if she would be a live today. This weekend My daughter is attending the funeral of little Anthony to console her friend through the second loss of her little life in just 2 years.
