Like I said, suffering from alcoholism does not relieve you of your personal responsibility. I was raised by two severe alcoholics. I know the score better than most, I think, and your statement simply isn’t true. Everyone reacts differently to drugs and, more broadly, to addiction. It’s far more physiological than conscious. I don’t know what kind of circles you do or did travel in, but drug use was not uncommon in my circle of friends. And the spectrum of addiction illustrated itself very clearly, from the guy who had been to rehab numerous times, struggling to quit, to no avail… to the guy who could use anything he wanted, even the most addictive of drugs, recreationally without ever getting sucked in. It’s not that the second guy was better than the first, his physiology was simply less prone to addiction.

This guy was clearly an alcoholic. Not only was he compelled to drink, he’s compelled to drink in severe excess. That doesn’t justify his actions; everyone has their hurdles to clear. But I do sympathize with the struggle. It’s a struggle that a lot of people lose. Unfortunately, this man took someone down with him. I spent day in and day out with my father who, after two DUIs in two months, struggled DESPERATELY to quit drinking. I was witness to the intense difficulty he encountered. He managed to stay clean for 9 whole months before it all fell down again, and, you know what? Experiencing his struggle with him, I’d be hard pressed to call him a “bad person” had he killed someone in an accident.

You and I, as drunk as we may ever get, have a luxury. We can say, “Hey, I’m going to forego the wine tonight,” and not even think about it again for the rest of the evening. We can go to a bar with friends and have just a single drink. Much like nailbiters, however, alchoholics can drift toward alcohol without even realizing it, and once they ingest some, they won’t stop until they’re cut off or passed out.

Again – It’s not an excuse. But it’s certainly a mitigating factor.

I respect Athena’s opinion on this matter, but due to my own personal experience with alcoholics/drunks – I can’t muster much sympathy for their “plight” while they’re still actively drinking. So many, like Aaron, go through the motions necessary to appear “good” when all the while they are scurrying off to the local watering hole to drink themselves stupid. Then, when they fuck up – it’s because they are alcoholics and they “couldn’t help it.” Then the same should go for the crack heads, meth heads, and any other drug abuser who we read about here – they “couldn’t help it.” Uh huh…. THAT’S not gonna happen.

But I think it really describes Penelopejo the best, after all she had to call for back up when the really big words came out she didn’t understand. I guess being a 21 year old mother has caught up with her. The best thing is that when I turned my buddies on to this website they laughed their asses off (and lost a few pounds) …I’ve been insulting you pretty steadily, but if I use big words you don’t understand and don’t quite get it.

Aaron (the drunk guy) who killed James Brogden obviously didn’t pay attention at those meetings or he would have called his sponsor instead of picking up the drink. He made his choice.

The fact is that James Brogden is dead because of the actions of Aaron (the drunk guy). If Aaron (the drunk guy) hadn’t picked up that drink none of this would have happened… including Aaron (the drunk guy) being dead. Henceforth to be known as Aaron (the dead drunk guy)

This person just a troll as you stated before. Trying to get a rise out of me because I hurt his cousins, brother, sister, whoever showed him this site’s feelings. But he won’t get it from me. This person is an ass, as you called them. This asswipe doesn’t seem to get that Aaron was killed for a good reason. Even though the PD is being investigated, it is standard with any police officer using deadly force. The police officer’s who were involved will get nothing but administrative duty for a few months and the most is suspension with pay(which they are probably on right now) because THEY were being attacked by Aaron. This person is upset because Aaron has died. Well, too fucking bad. He deserved to fucking die. So yeah, fuck this fuck that and fuck Aaron. He deserved to die and right now he is burning in hell with all these other sorry ass mother fuckers who killed someone.

There’s a difference between caring for an individual who contributed more to the world and hating another for contributing absoluting nothing to the same world.
