Berwick, PA–Charles Drasher was hailed a hero last Saturday morning after finding a newborn baby girl abandoned on the ground under his bathroom window. In an interview just hours after the discovery, Drasher exclaimed, ‘How could someone rationalize doing this to their own flesh and blood?’ Imagine his surprise when police arrested the mother of the newborn…his own flesh and blood, Drasher’s 23-year-old daughter Jennifer (Drasher) Killian.
Charles Drasher thought he could hear a baby crying. After checking on his granddaughter, Jennifer’s 1-year-old child, he determined that the crying was coming from outside the home. He found a blue plastic bag outside his bathroom window. The bag moved. Inside was some trash, a towel, a bath mat, some placenta, and a newborn baby girl. ‘Her fingers were blue, and her cries were real faint,’ Drasher said. ‘She had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck.’ The temperature outside that morning was about 17 degrees. Drasher rushed the baby into the house and called 911.
Information from Jennifer’s friends and co-workers led the investigation straight to her. Several employees at Susquehanna Valley Development Center, where Jennifer was employed as a day care worker, told police they believed Jennifer was pregnant, she blamed her growing belly on weight gain. She must have been on an awesome diet because her belly was gone when she showed up for work on Monday. A DNA test confirmed that Jennifer Killian was the mother of the child left to die in a trash bag.
Jennifer eventually admitted to authorities that she gave birth to the baby in the bathroom of her parents home. She had been hiding her pregnancy from her parents because she already had one child she couldn’t take care of…she didn’t want to piss off her parents with another one. She told police that after the birth of her first child, her mother ‘threatened to shoot her’ if she got pregnant again.
After giving birth to the child, Jennifer put the baby into a trash bag, opened the window, and dropped the bag onto the ground. She figured that was a great place to hide the baby until she got around to taking it to the hospital, just a few blocks away. Where’s the kid gonna go, right? She cleaned herself up. She cleaned up the bathroom. She said that she was retrieving some blankets and was heading back to wrap the baby in them when her parents showed up. By then, mom and dad were home and it was too late. Jennifer didn’t want to be seen carrying a bag full of newborn baby through the house, so…she said nothing. Even after her father found the baby and brought her inside, Jennifer said nothing.
The baby girl was rushed to Berwick Hospital where she received emergency medical treatment. The baby’s core temperature in the emergency room was 84 degrees and she showed signs of pneumonia. She has been transferred to Geisinger Medical Center, where she is recovering.
Jennifer Killian was arrested early Thursday morning. She is being charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child, both felonies, and recklessly endangering another person, a misdemeanor. Her bail has been set at $1 million. She told police that she didn’t intend to harm the baby and she didn’t place the child outside to die. She knew what she did was wrong, but she just couldn’t take care of another child. Well great Jennifer! Now you don’t have to worry about those pesky, expensive children! You have much bigger things to worry about now…bitch.
As for Jennifer’s father? He’s no longer giving interviews to the press.
Dakota Valkyrie has this one posted in the forums. Thanks DV!
