St. Petersburg, FL–The crazy things that crazy people do never ceases to amaze me. Take 63-year-old James Spencer Adams for instance. For some strange, unknown, fucked up reason, he decided he would jam the hook of a plastic clothes hanger down the throat of his 8-year-old step-grandson. I just can’t even come up with a single semi-reasonable explanation as to what could possibly possess him to do such a thing.
James told police he was rough-housing and wrestling with the child when he reached for a hanger and jammed it down the kids throat. He said, ‘It was just an accident.’ Police said, ‘Whaaaaa?’ Of course, they call bullshit on nutso step-grandpa because that excuse is just lame…and stupid. They say it was intentional and I’m inclined to believe them, especially after James described how he ‘guided’ the hanger down the boys’ throat Wednesday night. He went on to explain how he ‘gently wiped the blood off the plastic.’ Police think he pinned the kid down to do it. Can I get a group WTF?
At his preliminary hearing, the judge used words like ‘torture’ and ‘punish’ to describe what happened in the home that day. The judge then set his bond at $100,000 and ordered James to stay away from the child. James is being charged with aggravated child abuse and could face more charges as the investigation continues. He has yet to explain the motive behind the act. James has been in trouble in the past…he’s been arrested and convicted of DUI several times, the last in 2001, and was also arrested and charged with possession of cocaine in 1986.
Police say the child was unable to speak upon admittance to the hospital. The hanger punctured the child’s tonsils and caused other internal throat injuries that required an overnight stay in the hospital. That child will never again look at a hanger the same way…I don’t think I will either.
