My father used to say, “the only thing worse than having a dumb kid is having a smart one.” I had a stay-at-home-mother the neighborhood kids termed “The Warden” and an attentive and brilliant father…and I was still able to pull all sorts of shit over on my parents.

Yeah, our house was called “boot camp” but oddly enough, it’s where everyone hung out. But I was the one with all parents’ phone numbers.

I guess what I’m saying is, supervision is good, but far from foolproof, and that this kind of thing isn’t always a reflection on parents. When a kid’s a teenager, you really just have to cross your fingers and hope the values you instilled in them as a child stick and they have honest friends.

You just do the best you can. Our sons are 27 and 26 now, and the things I’ve found out; well, like I said you just hope for the best. Worked for one, not so much the oldest.

But for whatever reason, this was the meet-up place, which was so cool as long as the parents knew — and I made sure of that. If they didn’t call me, I called them. I didn’t give a flying fuck what the uncaring parents thought of me. When these kids were in MY home, they were my responsibility.

(This is when we found “the notebook.” A handwritten log of every single person a certain girl had slept with, including vital statistics. Yes, both sons were in there. It was just on the coffee table in the den; and, of course, once you opened it, well, you had to read it.) Tehe. Luckily, no diseases or pregnancies resulted from these encounters.

However, we were doing what we thought at the time was the best we could do. Those boogers still got around us (just like I did at that age).

Oh, I don’t know about that, considering the use of a pacifier has been a perpetually recurring “fad” among the freshman crowd. I suppose it’s all in the presentation, though.

the pacifiers are usually used by people on drugs. when you are on a lot of speed or E or something, you get a crazy oral fixation, and people like to suck, chew, and bite on them.

I love how some of the most internally fucked up people go on to study psychology. My dear, lovely best friend Jessica started out her college career studying psychology…Jessica, who had been jumping from one antidepressant to the next since she was fifteen…Not to say there’s any comparison in fuckedupedness, here.

I think it’s because those who have mental illness are really curious about finding ways to understand their ill minds better. It’s a way to educate yourself about your illness, and wanting to help others who suffer in similar ways.

But what baffles me is how did her bail manage to be something actually senseable, that is likely to keep her in jail? When we see 90% of the bail amounts for parents who participate in physical abuse, neglect and torture of their own biological kids, who are infants and toddlers. is under 100K and sometimes under 50K????

That part makes no sense, except I know hers is a Federal charge. But really, if she is a 250K risk a lot of the “parents” I have read abut here are a 1M risk!

Internet and kids are never a good mix. If you do let your child surf the net, you better know something about computers so that you can be one step ahead of them.
