Waynesville, NC – A whole lot of horrible gets written about here at the Demon, and sometimes the horrible borders on unimaginable. In such cases, I’ve seen posters say they wished they hadn’t read the story. This may be one that falls into that category. If you don’t feel like you can click that “Read more” link, just hold little Zachary Rich in your thoughts. Because of what his mother did to him, little Zachary now has a colostomy bag.
Tabitha Rich is 21, and her son Zachary is 2 1/2. Let me restate that for any readers who may be slow on the uptake: Zachary Rich has not yet made it to 3 years old. On Tuesday, OctoberOctober reviews
23rd, Mamma Rich took her toddler to a hospital and subsequently was arrested for felony child abuse charges. See, doctors determined it was unlikely that the boy had managed to give himself second and third degree burns to his buttocks and scrotum. No, it appears that Rich had dunked her baby in boiling water.
I honestly don’t get these “put child in boiling water” stories. I can’t think of any medical condition or behavioral issue that shows the remotest possibility of being helped by bringing any part of a child into contact with boiling water. Maybe she thought the boiling water would dislodge whatever it was that she had shoved into her son’s rectum.
Yes, you read that right, I am sorry to say. Tabitha Rich put something (we do not, at this point, know what) into her baby’s rectum days before the boiling incident. Whatever it was, it required surgical intervention to be removed, and little Zachary had to have a colostomy bag* inserted.
And were this not enough, in the days leading up to the child’s burning, she beat him — bruising his head and giving him a black eye — and also burned the bottom of his foot with a cigarette.
Sadly, the Department of Social Services was called to the Rich home just a couple of days before Tabitha Rich began her campaign of torture. Someone reported seeing bruises on Zachary, but Rich claimed that he had fallen off his tricycle, and apparently the case worker found this plausible.
Zachary remains in the pediatric intensive care unit; his cunt of a mother is in jail on a $110,000 bond. She faces five felony counts, the most recent of which were filed this past Thursday.
*More properly termed an “ostomy pouching system.”

She looks pissed off that she was arrested for disfiguring her son. What kind of person can look at a little child and torture him like SHE did? These people need to have done to them what they do to these babies!!! Seems like a logical form of punishment to me, anyway!
I pray this little boy recovers from his mother’s abuse and that she NEVER see’s the light of day or her son again!

I had been reading about her for the past few days and what I kept reading was that she had sexually abused him. They didn’t say how or why and I thought they charged her with that because she had burned his scrotum. Now I see why they charged her with sexually abusing him. Poor baby. I can’t see what or why she would do something like that. My daughter is a little over 2 and a half and she’s such a happy baby, even the doctor says so. What, in 2 years, can this child have done to her? All my child has brought is happiness. And now that poor baby will have a colostomy bag forever. Imagine, being 2 years old and wondering what the hell that thing is coming out your side and why. What a fucking bitch.

I am sitting here crying for this poor baby. my 2 year old baby girl just woke up and said ,mommy, i turned and looked at her and cried even more. these babies love us from the start and how a mother could do that is unimaginable. like the other comment said above, there is a special place in hell for that bitch, hope she gets there soon. right after she spends a few nites in prison. those women in there have babies of their own, and im sure will have fun w/her.

OMG this story makes me sick! My 6 year old son was born needing a colostomy, and just had it reversed at age 4. Once he became aware of it he was so self conscious even at 3 about having a bag. I hope so badly that one day this poor child may be able to have a reversal like my son did. I am praying for this poor baby that he is able to pull through and find the love of a family just like he deserves.

Just when you think you have read and heard it all, out from yet another rock slithers something that can’t possibly be classed as a human. I have read “true crime” books and such for 30 odd years and at some point you become a bit desensitized to some of it. With children however , the horror and disgust never changes.
I agree with Wolf_of_Mars , slap her in the Gen Pop, with those big Brunhildas who have children of their own. Maybe with any luck , she could find herself impaled on the end of a broomstick. She seriously needs to have that smug look slapped off her face.

Between the 17th and the 19th she beat her son causing a black eye, bruises on his forehead, scratches on his cheek and burn blisters ( more than one ) on the bottom of one foot and hand that appear to be cigarette burns. Ohh and lets not forget the Anal rape of some kind that tears a hole in his colon. That leads to a dip in boiling water. That was either additional torture or some drug crazed attemt to stop the anal bleeding. Hmm I wonder if the mother is doing drugs?
Social workers two years ago had a report of drug abuse in the home.
The agency got its first report on Nov. 2, 2006, ( Baby 6 months old ? Real Father living in home ? ) and took more information about “substance abuse around and involving the child †two months later. DSS also got a third report about drug abuse at the home on March 19, 2007 but couldn’t substantiate it. ( Crack or meth ? )
The child is still in the pediatric intensive care unit at Mission Hospitals, “He is healing well they are hoping, at the least, on the colostomy bag it will be six months,†Zachary did not have to go to a burn center or have skin grafts for his burns. Surgeons at Mission have also repaired a tear in the child’s colon, which authorities are also investigating.
Tabitha Rich has a court hearing set for Nov. 5.

I certainly first of all PRAY for the little ones recovery to be fast and most certainly very affective and that he goes to NO ONE IN THAT FAMILY and gets placed with a loving mom and dad….. Childrens Services can be a joke. If anyone is a canidate to have their kids remove it is a person I know. She has 6 and 7 year old girls that smoke cigarettes. Not just tried them or snuck one here and there, they ARE smokers. Mom leaves them in the care of her 15 year old nephew and his wannabe thug friends overnights more often than not while she parties all night. Rather than get on her nephew for having these kids smoking and cursing she thinks the kids are old enough to make their own choices about smoking at 6 and 7. The kids have no respect or manners for anything or anyone because they’ve never been taught ANYTHING at home exept how to lie for mommy. The real issue is that they’ve had lice for 5 years, they don’t remember not having it, many other people friends and relatives have taken it upon themselves to clean their hair but mom won’t follow up, or clean their house and they will have it again within a week. I could go on and on the ways those poor kids are neglected, I would think the Lice for 5 years would be enough to warrant child neglect charges, but i guess not. In the past year CPS has been called for them 4 times that I know of, by heighbors and even by the apartment rental office because they started a fire in a bedroom because the girls were making toast in a toaster on their bed, and they caught them sneaking into the pool afterhours after they banned them from it because of the lice. All 4 times CPS came out, because there was food in the cupboards, which was just lucky timing for the mom, and no signs of physical abuse, all they do is give her a lice treatment kit and a packet of city sponsered activities for kids in the area to help keep them out of trouble. Ask her to please, at least take care of the Lice, and they leave.

I have a friend who works for DSS and it seems they take kids from home they shouldn’t and leave them in homes where they are abused and should be removed. She has seen a child taken over things like a spider in the yard and a mother who left her child in the car to return a book to the library. (1 minute maybe)

I just keep thinking about the horrible crying/screaming which must have been coming out of him. If she didn’t want her son, why not give him up for adoption? I would think that if you could possibly get some of this behavior on video tape, it might help. Too often “parents” know when CPS is coming and get the worst things in order – till CPS leaves – then it’s right back to the same behavior. CPS can’t take kids without actually witnessing some form of abuse or having clear-cut proof that it’s occurred. It’s one thing that these children are smoking – it’s another to prove the mother is condoning it. Photos or video of them doing it in her presence could be helpful.
The lice thing makes me think of poor Rowan. Treated time and time again for head lice — but needing to be treated for a different kind — hence its constant re-occurrence.
Please don’t give up on helping those kids.
