Burrell Township, PA–The little angel you see pictured above is 19-month-old Leonard ‘L.J.’ McIntire. Right now, little L.J. is on life support, fighting for his life after a brutal beating by his mother’s boyfriend, 19-year-old Joshua Turner. Yes folks, another ‘beaten by the boyfriend’ story.
L.J.’s mother, Kimberly Shirley, says that she’s been with her boyfriend JoshuaJoshua reviews
for a few months now. He’s been living in the residence ‘off and on.’ Kimberly thought Joshua was bonding well with L.J., so she trusted Joshua to watch her son for a few hours while she ran some errands. Second verse, same as the first….
When Kimberly arrived home, she found an unconscious L.J. being hugged by Turner. While dialing 911, Kimberly looked to her boyfriend, who started crying and blubbering about how it was an ‘accident.’ Turner had more than one story to tell. He told Kimberly that he picked the baby up out of the high-chair and accidentally hit his face on the door. He told police that the baby had fallen from his shoulders and hit his head. Surprise! Both stories turned out to be bullshit!
After being told that the injuries to the child didn’t match the stories he was spewing out, Turner confessed. He confessed that that little baby had him ‘real upset and angry.’ So, to show his displeasure, he beat L.J. He punched him in the chest. He bit him on the chest, about 3 times. He violently shook him. Way to go tough guy!
L.J. was transported to Indiana Regional Medical Center. A charge nurse reported that he was unresponsive with a broken arm, multiple bruises, bite marks, and what appeared to be strangling marks on his neck. L.J. was then flown to Children’s Hospital of PittsburghPittsburgh reviews
where he has undergone at least one surgery to relieve the swelling on his brain. His mother said, ‘He had surgery on his head, they had to remove part of his skull. He still has lots of swelling, lots of bleeding in his brain.’ A doctor at Children’s told authorities that she would expect the child to die. I can only hope that little L.J. proves her wrong.
Police charged Turner with one count of aggravated assault. He’s been placed in the Indiana County jail with a bond of $250,000. He faces a preliminary hearing on Nov. 4.

And here I was just thinking hownice it has been to not have one of these stories on DD for what about 2 weeks. I said to myself progress and happy, helathy, loved children-nice…Wishful thinking!
The stories are the same, the words are the same-and the poor little babies always suffer. I am so beside myself on this issue…To me this is equivalent to me leaving my 10 month old with my husbands 30 yr old brother who has special needs and the mentality of a 9 yr old. It’s just not a consideration. I know I will only have one of my little Buggy. Sure I might have more children, but there will only be one Buggy…

As i pray for a total recovery of this baby, i cant help thinking….with a brain surgery and all….HOW will he recover? Will he have permanent problems?
I’ll leave this to God to sort out….i just keep my humble prayer to Him to do what is best for josh.
So glad i never left my babies with anyone, wish more mothers would take the time to read the news and think: could my child be next?

this is seemingly becoming a day to day thing and its always (or it seems) the “new” person in the childs life if you have to have a fucking back ground check to adopt a animal from the Humane Society(here you do) why would you leave a baby with a “on again,off again boyfriend” heres what i found else where,,,TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A 19-month-old boy was put on life support Tuesday night after being punched, shaken and bitten, state police in Indiana County said.
Police said Leonard Mcintire was beaten Monday at a home on Main Street in Burrell Township. The child suffered massive head trauma and several internal injuries and has had surgery at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, police said. The boy is listed in critical condition.
Joshua Turner, 19, was charged with aggravated assault. He remains in custody at the Indiana County Jail. The child’s mother, 20-year-old Kimberly Shirley, told WTAE Channel 4’s Marcie Cipriani that she wasn’t home when the injuries happened. When Shirley found the boy, he was unconscious and being hugged by Turner, she said.
“He has a broken arm, he has lots of bruises, he has a couple bite marks,” Shirley said.
Police said the 19-month-old is called L.J. by his family.
“He had surgery on his head. They had to remove a part of his skull. He still has lots of swelling, lots of bleeding in his brain,” said Shirley.
Police said Turner, who they said is Shirley’s boyfriend, attacked the toddler inside Shirley’s home when she wasn’t there.
“I was at the welfare office. I was at the Salvation Army. We went to pick up my older son from his supervised visit from his dad,” Shirley said.
“Whenever I got back I found the baby unconscious. He was at first laying on the loveseat,” said Shirley.
Shirley says she called 911, then looked toward Turner.
“He started crying and that, like, it was an accident,” Shirley said.
At first, Shirley said Turner told her he picked L.J. up from his highchair and he hit his face on a door. But police said Turner later told them that he became upset and angry with the toddler, punching him in the chest, biting him and shaking him.
“The only thing I want to find out is why,” Shirley said.
Shirley said the boyfriend she’s been with for a few months seemed to be bonding with her son.
“He was always right there, watching out for him. Playing with him,” Shirley said.
Although doctors have told her L.J. may not survive, Shirley is hopeful.
She told Cipriani she can’t visit her son without being supervised.

She should have known better. If her older sons father has “supervised” visits then she already knows that even real fathers can abuse their children, why would she assume a boyfriend is any different? She could have taken him with her to the welfare office and SA.
I hope the little guy makes a full recovery, its doubtful but we can all hope.
Who the hell bites and beats a baby? I feel there should be additional charges brought on, more that aggravated assault. Try corporal punishment, torture, child abuse and any and everything else they can get on him. At least his bail is high -.-

You’ve got to be kidding, right? No one should “assume” anyone is going to beat a child, unless that person has a history of violence. If we judged everyone by the actions of others, we’d be able to trust NO ONE.
Perhaps the mother didn’t show the best judgment, considering they had been together on and off, but you can’t tell me she should have figured because another man had supervised visits with her other son.

I will never understand this. I know children can be trying at times, but they will stop crying and their attitude will go back to happy and jovial. Come on people. This kid’s dying because the mother mistakenly and unfortunately left him for just a couple of hours with an adult male whom she trusted and you’re going to call her an “asshole”??? Have you read ANYTHING in this article suggesting she could have known he was a danger to her child?

I agree this just proves to me once again that people arent alway what they seem. Dont get me wrong should be careful who you leave your little ones with but as I see all the time usually when something aweful like this happens it sad to say is usually someone the victim trusts in this case boyfriend. I know if I was the mother I would be blaming myself. So to call her an asshole can you think your one second what she is goin through right now. I too hope that poor L.J. pulls through.

SBS kills about one third of its victims and permanently and severely disables another third. Problems resulting from SBS include learning disabilities, seizure disorders, speech disability, hydrocephalus, behavioral problems, cerebral palsy, and visual disorders (namely blindness from retinal damage)
Who will care for this child, who will need constant medical/personal attention for the rest of his life? His mother? She’s on welfare and utilizing the SA right now… and doesn’t seem all that stable. She would not be my first choice. Foster care? What are the odds he’ll be well taken care of there? Institution? Yeah, what a life!
I only pray this child is in the 1/3 that makes a FULL recovery or one with very, very limited side effects. Otherwise, well……

I would take that little baby and love him-no matter what his challenges might be. If he just lives and beats the odds of dying! Who wouldn’t want to take care of him and love him?

First, Kudos to you for that. Unfortunately, it may not be as easy as “Who wants and will care for this child as he should be cared for?” If the mother doesn’t retain custody of him, his likely destination would be a foster home. Although there are some good ones, there are too many not so good ones that would only hinder this baby… not help him. Also, a standard foster home most likely would have more children in it (possibly also with special needs) and again, I don’t see him getting the care, attention and affection he needs to thrive. Too bad you can’t take him. There is nothing better than someone who is totally willing to take on such a challenge.
Although I could love him… in all honesty, if he wasn’t my child, I don’t think I could do it. It was exhausting and stressful enough raising 3 relatively healthy children… I just don’t think I have it in me to face such a challenge.
I DON’T wish this child death! I just pray (hard as I can) that the damage done was minimal.

That’s honest and fair…I don’t think anyone ever knows if they can or can’t. I can’t even tell you that it would be a walk in the park-but I do know a little about dealing with some such afflictions like Cerebral Palsy. My husband’s 30 year old brother has it-and has the mentality of maybe a 9 year old. It’s weird to look at a grown man and tell him he can only have one soda, or to sit at the table for fear he will spill. It’s odd to look at a grown man and make sure he is bathing himself or brushing his teeth-it’s hard to do-so I understadn where you are coming from…
Hopefully there would be tons of people lined up to help him or take him-

Is that the term used when a child dies from SBS or did Josh beat him in his head too and not just his chest? Either way, it is very sad. I was pullin’ for the little guy.
A better thing to wake up to would have been “Joshua Turner has died, after being beaten in the chest, bitten and violently shaken while awaiting is pre-trial hearing.”

NEVER worry about my mental state, honey i worked in mental health for five years and i have seen all, i am the most sain person you will ever want to meet. I am rational i never got into trouble, my friends all most of them work in the law enforcement end of it and i know alot.. you need not worry about me ever and this site does get disturbing however we all are aloud to express our opinions and get out our rage on what and how we feel.. but thanks for your concern you need not worry about me, i am just expressing frustration just like everyone else
