What Happened To Leah Walsh?
October 29, 2008 by impqueen
UPDATE – A body has been found off the Long Island Expressway near Shelter Rock Road in Nassau, New York. That body has not been identified, and officials say it’s “too early” to tell if the body is Leah Walsh’s, but the location just about 13 miles from where Leah disappeared on Monday and it appears to have been there for at least 24 hours. Homicide detectives are on the scene, and a Nassau police spokesman says that body “will not be easily identified”. We’ll update as we get information.

Leah Walsh (R) and her husband, William Walsh
Bethpage, NY - Leah Walsh, 29, is a special education teacher in Glen Cove, New York.  At 6:25 on Monday morning, Leah texted her husband of three years, William Walsh: “Have a great day, love bunches, mwah”. That’s the last time anyone has seen or heard from her. Â
Leah Hirschel Walsh left for work early Monday morning. She works at the School for Language and Communication Development in Glen Cove, where she teaches autistic kids. By 6:30 a.m., her black 2005 Ford Focus was found unattended on the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway. The car, which was locked and had a flat on the right front tire, was located facing northbound near the entrance ramp at ExitEXIT reviews
9. Leah never made it to work that day.
The school, concerned that Leah hadn’t called in, waited for a couple of hours and then started calling family. I’m not sure why they didn’t reach Leah’s husband first, but it appears that Leah’s father was who got the first call. He found the car before noon on Monday and then called Leah’s husband William “Bill” Walsh. William Walsh then called 911.
A police officer found Walsh’s purse just off the shoulder of the expressway not far from the car. That doesn’t sound good at all.
So far, police have stopped short of calling Leah Walsh’s disappearance an abduction. Instead, they’ve classified her as a “missing person”, which sounds a lot like a few other cases we’ve all heard about. I hesitate to say that I get a weird vibe off William Walsh so early in the investigation, but I do. I could be wrong, but this does smack a little bit of a setup.
William and Leah Walsh have been married about three years. He’s a mortgage broker, so given the current mortgage crisis, one can well imagine that the Walshes might suddenly be having tough times financially, although that hasn’t been addressed as yet in the press. There are a few rumors of spousal fights – but nothing that should have caused Leah Walsh to walk out on her job, her marriage, and her life.
For his part, William Walsh has been questioned by investigators, but not charged with any crime at this point. The text from Leah appears to be legit, as does the flat – so far. At this point, really, anything could have happened, from stranger abduction to walkout to uxoricide.
I’ll update with new information as we get it.

Ok, I had to look up the word uxoricide. Thank you imp for the vocab lesson this morning.
I am soooo hoping that she just got fed up with the hubby and beat feet. It’s a rare occasion when a woman leaves her purse behind though.
11:27 am on October 29th, 2008
Okay, the first thing i would do is call my husband and let him know i have a flat tire. I think she felt it was safe enough to leave her car, because she knew the person.
The purse being thrown off to the shoulder, Was anything missing?
Police need to check the cell phone for recent calls.
We need more information

Body Found in Search for New York Teacher

Hi! I’m new here, been lurking but just decided to jump in now!
I really hope the body is not Leah’s; though given what we know so far it very well may be. I agree with impqueen, the hubby gave me a weird vibe too, but hopefully I’m wrong.
I don’t know if it was on the Fox site or if was on the local news here in NY but I heard that her car was locked. To me, if she did, indeed break down on her way to work and it was not a setup, sounds like she went freely.
Just sucks that this is happening so much lately.

im thinking bill isnt keeping his stories straight or hes lying to someone heres what he told a reporter last night THAT HE CALLED and found car ,,According to police, Leah contacted her husband, William “Bill” Walsh, Monday morning and told him that her car had broken down on the Oyster Bay Expressway near Bethpage. Bill reportedly went to help his wife; however, when he got there, she was nowhere to be found. Her vehicle, a 2005 black Ford Focus, license plate DNU 5876, was found parked on the northbound shoulder of the road with a flat tire.
At about 6:30 a.m., Bill contacted police and alerted them about the situation. During a search of the area, investigators found Leah’s purse discarded on the side of the road. Despite the find, investigators say that they are treating the incident as a “missing person” case and not an abduction.
Earlier today, Bill spoke briefly with reporters while standing in his in-laws’ driveway.
“Please get the picture out. We just want her back,” Walsh said. He added, “You can have my cars. You can have everything. I just want my wife back.”Police say Bill is cooperating, but they will not comment on what, if anything, he has shared with them about his relationship with his wife.During an interview with the Daily News, Leah’s friend, Lucas Bean, said that he exchanged text messages with Leah on Sunday and that she allegedly told him that she had gotten into a fight with Bill.
“She was in the car with him texting to me.… She was telling me that things are not going to work out with her and her husband, and she had to tell me something very important, but she needed to wait till she got out of the car with him,” he said.
According to Lucas, Bill and Leah had not been married for long and had separated at least once.
Nassau Police are asking anyone with information regarding Leah Walsh’s whereabouts or activities in the hours leading up to her disappearance to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.

yeeeppp. Leanin’ toward the hubby, isn’t it?
That text is GOLD.
However, anybody can use anyone’s phone to text…throws off the time frame/ alibi times, etc…
As far as the mortgage crisis goes, I wouldn’t be suprised if we see a lot more suicides this holiday season.
2:11 pm on October 29th, 2008
Me too, on both of those points.
Hmmm…where was hubby? Could he have used her phone to text himself before leaving the scene?
3:13 pm on October 29th, 2008
OK… What does THAT mean? After only 24 hours a body shouldn’t decompose enough to make it hard to identify.
What would? A RAGE killing by someone she knew well… who probably f-ed up her face so as to make her harder to identify.
Yeah, hubby is looking better and better. Poor girl.
5:11 pm on October 29th, 2008
Yeah, difficult identification tends to mean either the body is very decomposed or really messed up unfortunately. That could mean missing fingerprints, teeth, and mutilation. Ugh, I feel so sorry for that poor girl and her family. Especially since its so rare to find individuals willing to teach those who are disabled…. tragic.

This is exactly what I said to my boss today and last night (This Morning) in the forums I said my money is on the hubby.. I hope if he did text himself from her phone he was stupid enough to do it where the pings will bust his ass..IMO if he killed her it was probably Sunday night sometime if the thing about the fight going on is true.. If the car was ticketed as abandoned at 6:30 am Monday I doubt he would have sent the text from near her car …Therefore the ping will be somewhere else obviously.. They never learn do they..I hope I am wrong and she just ran away and is safe somewhere but…

Check out the video of the hubby. Bad acting and not a single tear.

Yeah…I know I’m not the standard female, but why would she text him leaving the house in the morning? After being married for three years? That alone strikes me as odd. You know what else strikes me as odd, though?
Seriously?
7:00 pm on October 29th, 2008
I smell a Scott Petersen here…
I would agree that IF (I don’t want more kadenfuckus coming after me here…) he did kill her-he probably did it on Sunday or as early as possible Monday. Of course he texted himself. I’m sure that her phone records will indicate the time odd-whether she texted him often or not-I bet it wasn’t at 6:25 in the morn! Besides, what the hell kind of a mortgage broker goes to work before 6:25 in the morrning? Especially with the economy like it is right now! I bet if they look closely at that tire, they will find it has a nice smooth slash somewhere in it. And unfortunately, that body probably is hers-what are the odds that someone goes missing and a random body is found not too far from her abandoned car?
My bets on on the hubby…
7:46 pm on October 29th, 2008
VERY BAD ACTING…wow, just wow. Hope to be wrong on that, but ghee he sure doesn’t “really” act like someone who’s wife is missing and he’s concerned about her.
9:25 pm on October 29th, 2008
I wonder what sort of texting patterns her phone records would show, because I agree the timing is really odd. I’d be curious as to whether she ever texted him at that time in the past like that :/

This looked suspicious from the outset. Nice that they already have enough to arrest him. If I weren’t planning on changing my own tire, my first call would be to my roadside assistance plan, and my second would be to my husband. Mostly to whine and pass the time waiting on the towtruck. But he’d definately get a call. If I were going to change my own tire, then I’d probably still call my husband – you know, for the whining, but my car would be unlocked and my purse still in it as I got out to change the tire. And if she’s really the sort who texts her husband to have a good day right after she leaves the house?? She’s definately contacting him. Or she isn’t that sort and never sent that first text. Either way, it never passed the sniff test. This is a busy highway at morning rush hour. And it’s not the sort of place you’d get out of your vehicle while waiting on assistance either. Someone would have noticed a woman with a flat tire. Probably a number of someones.

no theres not,as soon as i read the article here this morning i remembered what i had seen/read last night and story was way opposite of what i had read so as so many others murdered by hubbys later,,,what ever happened to good old divorce??? just seems to becoming a big exit from marraige instead of just signing the paper work,,guess the men are afraid the world will find out what kinda losers they are if they dont get rid of the wife(i know some women have also killed hubbys but lately just seems each day theres another wife killed)
we just had a man convicted in second trial here for murdering his wife in michigan 11 yrs ago and she left behind a daughter,,so now theres a 13 yr old girl with both parents taken from her because he got life!i just cant seem to get it wrapped around my head,,how do they think they are gonna get away with murder???it may take decades but they will be caught and by then many more lives are devastated when it catchs up to them,,,right now i have started looking into a cold case with a friend of mine a case that has bothered us for yrs because its 4 kids taken and murdered and the more we look into it we are finding things cops didnt have the technology to check in 76 and 77 when they happened and im not we will solve it but with finding so much evidence overlooked i guarantee someone will find the piece that puts people in prison,, so murders not the way you always get caught sometime down the road

update: husband in police custody, body found was Leah Walsh
http://www.newsday.com/news/local/ny-lileah1030,0,3990585.story
Days after a Long Island teacher was reported missing, police said Wednesday night that a body found in the woods was the missing woman, and her husband is being held in police custody, officials said.
The whereabouts of Leah Walsh, 29, had been a mystery ever since her car was found Monday morning abandoned along the Seaford-Oyster Expressway.
On Wednesday morning, the body of a white woman was found in a wooded area in North Hills. At about 8:30 p.m., investigators confirmed the body was Walsh’s.
Her husband, William Walsh Jr., 29, had pleaded for the public’s help in finding his wife. The two were married for three years and lived together on Marbourne Road in Bethpage, sources said.
Police plan to hold a news conference later Wednesday night on the case, and are expected to reveal additional information.

Body Found Near Long Island Expressway is Leah Walsh
Posted at 9:37 PM Oct 29, 2008
Police did indeed find the remains of missing Long Island teacher Leah Hirschel Walsh in the woods near the Long Island Expressway today. William Walsh Jr., Leah’s 29-year-old husband, has been charged with her murder. Looks like his act couldn’t hold up under scrutiny, after all. No surprise, since videos show that Walsh couldn’t muster anything approaching sincere-seeming grief or fear. His face was an impassive mask in an ABC video shot yesterday; he only used his voice to give the impression he was sobbing.
still wish these stories weren’t so damned predictable, and spouse killers didn’t think they could get away with it. They rarely do,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,.,,,got update from another news site

yes i saw the brother speak in the video – new yorker accent reminds me of rob from the survivor show – he seemed to be lying thru his teeth. Except the part about them being a normal couple they worked and were happy… I seem to think that was true.
I would like to hear from the friend she was text msging on sunday from the car.

LOL …. Yes , Athena…( If i changed my own tire, the wheel would come off and probably be rolling in traffic )
Now that I know they were fighting, that shit about calling the husband goes right out the window….he’d be the LAST person I’d call….I thought his ass was guilty from the start.
I’m with the people that said , he probably killed her the night before, and called himself from her cell phone.
Kinda strange how she sent him a text at 6:25 and then FIVE minutes later they find her car.

The husband has confessed to strangling her and dumping the body, as well as faking the text messages.

Now, THIS I can get on board with. In fact, my last flat went very much that way. I got out the tire iron and jack, only to discover that the spare was in ill repair, so I called AAA, then my dad to let him know where I was in case something happened to me (I was on the side of an on-ramp – not the safest place to be). I always call dad when having car issues. Reflex, I suppose. Then I wound up on the phone with Morbid catching up on site details, strangely enough.
Doesn’t surprise me at all that the husband’s been picked up. It’s scary, how spouses can hide their contempt from someone they LIVE WITH.

William “Bill” Walsh, 29, has allegedly confessed to murdering his wife, 29-year-old Leah Walsh, a Bethpage schoolteacher who was reported missing on Oct. 27.
According to Police in Nassau County, N.Y., the murder is believed to have occurred sometime after 2 a.m. Sunday, when Walsh returned home from a trip to Atlantic City. The couple allegedly got into an argument, during which Leah accused her husband of cheating on her. The argument then escalated into a physical confrontation, police said on Thursday.
“We allege William choked his wife to death, dumped her body in North Hill, staged a scene to make it look like her car was disabled on the highway,” Nassau County police commissioner Lawrence Mulvey, said during a Thursday press conference. “[He] staged a scene to make it look [like] her abductor removed her pocket book, staged text messages of purported communications between husband and wife, staged a phony emotional scene for the media, all the while knowing her body lay among leaves and trunks in a remote area of North Hill. Mr. Walsh will not enjoy one nanosecond of freedom for the rest of his life.”
Walsh allegedly gave police a seven-page confession, which they say details the events leading up to and following the murder. In addition to the confession, police say a driver in a state Transportation Department vehicle has come forward to say that they witnessed Walsh leaving the scene where Leah’s abandoned car was found on Monday.
Meanwhile, Walsh’s attorney, Karl Seman, has been criticizing police for the way they handled the investigation.
“Any confession that they obtained was done by tricks,” Seman told the New York Post. “They focused only on him since day one.”Also speaking out on Thursday was Josh Hirschel, Leah Walsh’s brother. Speaking to the media in front of his parents’ house, John publicly thanked the Nassau County Police Department.
“Their professionalism and dedication and their kindness have really been nothing short of exemplary throughout this time of crisis,” John said. “To our friends and family, your outpouring of support has been tremendous to us in this time of need. Without you I think this nightmare would have been completely unbearable for all of us. Leah always strove to brighten the world around her. She always lent a hand to those who most needed it. She was a wonderful person. We ask that in lieu of flowers or gifts we ask that those whose lives were most touched make a contribution to the special needs school in which she worked, which she loved . . . That’s all that our family will have to say. We kindly ask to be left to grieve by ourselves and without interruption.”
Contributions should be sent to the School for Language and Communication Development, 100 Glen Cove Ave., Glen Cove, NY, 11542.
Walsh has pled not guilty to second-degree murder charges. He is being held without bond in the Nassau County Jail. If convicted, he faces 25-years to life in prison.

Police later said they were interested in speaking with a Los Angeles man who reportedly text-messaged with Leah Walsh on Saturday night. In the conversation, she mentioned having had a fight with her husband, according to media reports.
Detectives learned about the man, identified as Lucas Bean, 32, from the reports and it was likely investigators would reach out to him, police said.
On his Sirius Satellite Radio show, shock jock Howard Stern said he was contacted by Walsh’s family for help. Stern said Walsh was an intern in 1999

Did he leave on foot ?
How far is marbourne rd from seaford oyster exit 9 …
If he set up the car, flat tire, purse in the ditch to look like Leah was abducted – would of left him in need a Ride.
I’m curious how stupid was he did the text he send himself from Leah’s cell ping from same place as his. The smart thing to do would of been to leave his cell at home…
