Where in the World is Taylor Meyer?
October 20, 2008 by Ruby
10/20/08 – UPDATE – Taylor’s body was found at 10:30 AM today within about 100 yards of where she was last seen. There were no obvious signs of trauma on her body. The state medical examiner is on-site, trying to ascertain cause of death.  Here’s hoping they can quickly determine what happened out there that night.  Rest in peace, Taylor.

Taylor Meyer, MissingMissing reviews
in Mass.
Norfolk, MA - Last Friday night, OctoberOctober reviews
17, there was a house party in Norfolk, MA.  After a time, some of the revelers adjourned to a nearby airfield that had been abandoned for more than 10 years.  One of the underage gang was a pretty 17-year-old girl named Taylor Meyer.
No one has seen her since.Â
The last time anyone remembers seeing Taylor is around 10 PM.  At some point, they claim, she “wandered off,” and no one saw her again. But this is where the story gets truly strange.  Police report that she made a couple of phone calls that night. In the last one she seemed pretty incoherent, but kept repeating the word “plane” over and over again.  Further, she was not reported missing by her mother until the following afternoon.
Now, I had some pretty wild times in my teenaged years, but if I wasn’t in my bed when my parents woke up the next morning, there would have been a mighty frantic call made to the police, let me assure you. And that was before cell phones! Imagine not being able to raise your teenage daughter on her cell when she doesn’t show up at home.  What a terrible thing to imagine.  Perhaps her mother was out and didn’t know she was gone, or thought she was at a friend’s home?   And I guess not one of her friends noticed she wasn’t with them when the party broke up for the night? Who did she arrive with? Why didn’t they notice her missing?  Something about all of this doesn’t sit well with me.
In any event, dogs, helicopters, and divers searched the area late SaturdaySaturday reviews
and all day SundaySunday reviews
, but have found no trace of Taylor Meyer. The area is dense, wildly overgrown, and full of marshy, boggy wetlands, so it’s a tough go in terms of searching.
Another bizarre twist to the story is that apparently a bunch of kids from her school district maintain an ongoing gossip website of sorts. If you dig back three years to 2005, there are some pretty mean and inflammatory posts about Taylor from several of her classmates. It seems that — at that time — some folks definitely did not wish her well.  I’m confident the police are aware of that history, and will follow any leads they can in the investigation.  I’m also sure that 3-year-old gossip from a bunch of 8th graders is probably irrelevant today. But in light of the mysterious circumstances of Taylor’s disappearance, it is worth considering.
Taylor is 5′ 8″ tall and weighs approximately 150 pounds.   Anyone with information about the disappearance is asked to contact the Norfolk Police Department at 508-528-3206.
Updates as the occur.  I know you will all join me in wishing that Taylor is found quickly and unharmed.

I just saw this, how sad. I can remember many weekends hanging out drinking in the woods when I was a teen; you had no where else to go. At least if you lived out in the country. Although we always came home……I hope they find her.

Nice write up Ruby. I too hope she is found soon and well.

Just saw an article…she was found deceased
My heart just sank!
1:02 pm on October 20th, 2008
Yes, they just found her body. I am trying to update the article with the new info…. hang on!
1:12 pm on October 20th, 2008
Aw thats just so sad. I hope it was an accident and not some perv that got ahold of her. Not that that will be of much comfort to her family.
1:13 pm on October 20th, 2008
I bet she just wandered off and maybe she passed out and possibly drowned (drown?, sorry) anyway it’s still sad that no one notified the authorities. Maybe she would of been found alive. 17 is too young……
1:16 pm on October 20th, 2008
Well, if she drowned, I think they would not be saying “no obvious signs of trauma.” I’d think they’d be able to tell that pretty quickly. Further, she made those strange, incoherent calls to friends that night. So, if she did pass out, it was (obviously) after having made some pretty bizarre calls.
1:19 pm on October 20th, 2008
Drugs or alcohol overdose maybe? Sad.
1:19 pm on October 20th, 2008
Your right, I guess I was thinking trauma as in hitting her with a blunt object, etc. I am just trying to think back to my younger days, I got pretty incoherent at times…..maybe she made those calls and was trying to say where she was at, but was just to wasted. If no one was really worried about it possibly this was something she did a lot? The feeling I just get is accident with no one involved, but I’ve been wrong many, many times
1:21 pm on October 20th, 2008
Also maybe the calls were bizarre because her cell was breaking up, it was a very wooded area. Bad service?
5:33 pm on October 20th, 2008
Bad cell service is quite possible in this area. The former “airpark” was a one runway strip and it is in total disrepair. It was cool last Friday night, in the 30’s which is below normal for the area. I was South of that location by about 45 miles on the weekend and I would not have wanted to be out wandering around last Friday night much after 10 although the early evening was a nice fall evening. It makes sense the kids would party in the woods and break it up around 10 when it got too cold. If she did pass out, and lay on the ground possibly in wet clothing, the stress on her body would have been pretty large after a few hours. Poor kid!
7:45 pm on October 20th, 2008
Ruby, good article.
Ruby, I googled around and found that medical trauma refers to a serious or critical bodily injury. Would drowning count as an injury, exactly? I can see it going either way…if medical definitions are as quirky as legal definitions of various things. Aaah, we need NurseRhonda! Where is she?
Do we know what all exactly fun stuff they were partying ON?
9:25 pm on October 20th, 2008
hi this is a teen of the area, spicificly wrentham which for those of u that dont know is the home of kingphilip high and the town over to plainville. ok, one even though some of those thearys could be true. im pretty sure there not. i talked to many kids that night first off. they last herd from her at about 11:55. and she left around 11:30. i wasnt at the party but my friend told me she said her coursin was coming to pick her up. they all belived her so it wasnt just a thing were every1 left her. anyways she said her cousin was there to pick her up, after that some people (unnamed for privacy reasons,) pointed her to the direction of the road, because they were in the woods for about 30 yrds off of the old airstrip. and i guess she walked the wrong way. now thats where it gets shaky for me . mean i wasnt there but the people that were there wernt all drunk so i dont get why she went the rong way without some1 noticing.. wat i think happened is she went into the wooods thinking it was her cousin picking her up and got lost (those woods are confusing). thus resulting in her calls in confusion. from then on i dont know wat happened…
.all i know is that i have many friends morning and today was a hard day for our area… and this isnt the first negitive thing our area has seen from the effects of drugs and alchohal. not to long ago there was a car accedent leaving rachel julieano in a critcal state…
.. a tragity it is
o and for the person before me.. plaese have a little more respect “fun stuff”??
she was drunk dont treat it like she was trippin on acid
9:43 pm on October 20th, 2008
sorry about the loss in your area but refering to fun stuff isnt a bad comment to make,i am 43 born in the city and raised in the country(under 2000 people) and we partied out there because there was nothing else to do except buy Boonsfarm Apple Wine and race our cars (1/4 and 1/2 mile although that doesnt matter lol) but we did the “fun stuff ” back them also which was acid or pot,now these days its terrifying whats out there,i have a 25 yr old daughter and 23 yr old son and every weekend when they would leave the house i always gave the speech, dont leave your drink(if your gonna drink) not even with friends and would get the “omg mom they are my friends they wouldnt do that,,”well a friend of theyres did lace someones drink in grade 11 and that person almost died” so please dont act like your s is the only small town out there that refrains from “the fun stuff”,its just sad nowadays the fun stuff is alot dealier then it used to be,and those back roads in the country are deadly too with ponds etc so hopefully autopsy will clear things up,,whisper
9:56 pm on October 20th, 2008
i was just thinking about this comment.. my brothers girlfriend stopped coming home for a long time.. in the beginning there was a lot of hysteria over where she was the cops got called … people in masses went looking for her.. but after a while.. like the boy who cried wolf.. people stop caring.. this last time she disappeared for three days.. of course myself and her friend seemingly were the only ones concerned about where she was but her parents never called the police this time. they called my brother and my mom and stopped at that. i am not saying this is right.. but i think they just had enough. so maybe that is the reason no one seemed concerned until later on. though you could be right too..

10:35 pm on October 20th, 2008
Whisper,
King Philip High is the regional high school Taylor attended.
Colbstaaa is just letting you know that he/she is from the same area as Taylor and knows people who were there that night.
I have read reports in the news this evening that corroborate what Colbstaaa has said: Taylor said she was leaving the party, and that someone was picking her up. Everyone at the party thought she’d left. No one had any idea she was missing. Her friends thought she was home, and her family thought she was with friends. Tragic.
Something to be said for the old preschool buddy-system, you know?
I do wonder what they thought the meaning of the unintelligible phone calls was, though.
10:40 pm on October 20th, 2008
Hey, Cobstaa, I’m sorry she died. I really didn’t mean it in some disrespectful way. I meant it literally–I have no idea what she was on. Just so you know, I wouldn’t judge her for doing acid any more than I would judge her for getting drunk. Why would I? Whatever. She was a teen who was partying. She could have been doing just about anything, and I was trying to figure out what might have happened. If it’s just alcohol, she could have died of alcohol poisoning. But a death is more likely if, say, someone is drinking and taking a bunch of painkillers at the same time.
Maybe you thought I was joking around b/c I put a smiley face after asking where NurseRhonda was…she’s actually someone who posts on here frequently who often has info about such things as the medical definition of trauma…I wasn’t being flippant, I promise.
Thanks; I didn’t mean it judgmentally. I did waaaay more than just drink when I was in high school!

kinda reminds of a couple,, few yrs ago tried meth and got lost in snow storm,,was on phone with 911 for hours and 911 couldnt get a location on them cuz they had no clue where they were so police werent looking in right area and they both froze to death,,they were hallucinating telling of structures that werent even there,,sad though she kept saying :plane” i am not saying she was on anything just kinda reminds me of that story

what’s the gossip site? I wanted to look at it, but couldn’t find it.
that’s such a pity.
i can understand her mom not being alarmed- she probably told her she was staying at a friends house (then told the friend she changed her mind and was going somewhere else or just going home). i mean, it’s not like she was 12. she was 17. i could pretty much do whatever i wanted by then
3:10 am on October 21st, 2008
My girlfriend’s daughter is also 17. Luckily, M. has a handle on what’s usually going on with the teenager. It scares me how fast things can go downhill in some situations, and, I pray that M.’s girl doesn’t get caught up in any of them. Parents: Don’t let the kids leave the house without knowing what they’re up to. And, don’t be afraid to push the issue, and don’t be afraid to piss them off. You’re supposed to be their parents; not their “best friends.”
4:00 am on October 21st, 2008
Am I just in need of major sleep, or has the majority of the new post been made by 5 year old children? I cannot understand anything some of these kids are writing. The spelling is atrocious, not to mention the cryptic writings themselves. However, they did all attend the same school.
I am very sad this young lady died. But I will say that, no matter what my age, my mother would have KNOWN I was missing very soon after.
In certain areas of our world, kids are taught to raise themselves and the parents usually just “do their own thing.”
Population control is looking better by the minute.

Absolutely horrible
9:28 am on October 21st, 2008
I am sorry for your loss and for the community. I am way older than you are so I don’t know anybody your age in the area but I do know the area for many years. And I know some tough situations are happening. What you describe about her walking to the road and all makes sense. The paper said she was found near Miller St bridge and I can think of a bridge that is somewhat near the end of the old runway with a fair amount of growth that you could get lost in if you were walking from the old runway area toward the road, especially in the dark and drunk. It would not be out of line to assume someone walked it and got to the road.
I did similar things at that age – but I guess I was lucky because I could never hold my booze and I was falling down drunk pretty fast and everbody knew it. If she was one of those people who can be a lot more drunk then they appear, then she had a problem if she was lost in the dark. We are not talking city streets with sidewalks and pavement and lots of lights she could aim for or where passersby would see her. Just very sad.

Hi, I am new here but just wanted to comment on this story. Thank you B for saying something about the spelling in some of the posts. One of the above posts is just awful, it’s almost scary. Anyway, it’s terrible that this happened to this poor girl, having a fun time and then dying alone with no one around to help. The first thing that struck me as odd was that her mother didn’t call for help until the next day, but I suppose if she thought her daughter was with someone then why worry. So that could be explained. I still don’t understand why she wandered off alone. But I am looking at this from the standpoint of an adult and not as a teen who was there. I know things just happen and most kids don’t fear that dangerous things could happen. As for the “no obvious signs of trauma”. I just thought that was a vague comment made by police to say that they have not fully examined her but an initial examination of her body didn’t show any physical injuries. That, to me, doesn’t exclude drowning. Lastly, I agree on this side of sugarglider. There are so many kids that use drugs and I was not born yesterday. I have heard many stories of things that go on nowadays. The term fun stuff could stand for anything, not just acid. Plus, the police reports have not confirmed what was in her system. I am not saying that she did more than just drink, but until a coroner confirms it then no one can say for sure.

I also noticed this, but I just figured it’s a generation thing. For example, the emails I receive from my niece (elem school teacher) are very similar — no caps, lots of abbreviations, more like a text message. But I’ve also ready some papers she’s written so I know that (in her case) she is fully aware of the proper use of the written word.
What bothers me the most, though, is that when the posters who come to the site to try to explain “their” side of the story, they use “text message speak.” While I do feel the pain her friends are feeling (and I use the term “friends” loosely since I have read the 3 y.o. jr. high posts about her), if the poster would make an attempt to communicate in an adult manner, they would be treated as such.
I’m sure we’ve all done are fair share of heavy-duty partying, but as Pak31 said, partying is on a whole different level now. I’ve seen it first hand. And these kids are way more smooth about it than I was back then.
It will be interesting to see what the autopsy results show. Tox screen? Alcohol poisoning/exposure to the elements?

I was seeing the same thing. These are similar to the emails I receive from my niece (elem school teacher). I’ve seen some papers she’s written, so I know that she is well aware of the proper use of the written word. However, in personal conversation, she immediately shifts to “text message speak.”
I know we’ve all done our fair share of partying, but partying now is on a whole different level as Pak31 said. It will be interesting to see or hear the results of the autopsy/tox screen.

Hmm.. This kinda reminds me of an incident I had a few years back. I was celebrating a breakup at a friends place about an hour from where I live. I got absolutely hammered. I decided it was a fine night to explore the woods. I was walking around these woods I had never been in, talking to my friend who was trying to direct me back to the street and back to their house. It was 2am and I was falling alot. At one point, I took a step, and slid down into some water. Turns out it was a creek. I told my friend I would call them back, stuck the phone in my pocket, and proceeded to attempt to cross this creek. Not even halfway across, the water was up to my neck, so I decided to try to swim the rest of the way. I still wasn’t halfway across, and was making zero progress. I decided I didn’t feel like dying that night so I turned around, swum back, struggled up the hill, found out my phone wasn’t working anymore, slept on the ground for two hours til the sounds of police sirens woke me up. Sorry to hear that her story wasn’t as fortunate, but I think it might have been a drunken accident.

when my son was 15 we dropped him at a party (parents were home) he was told to call by midnight for a ride home or we would send a cab,by 12:15 he hadnt called i knew something was up i called the house,,long story short my 15 was at a party where the mom bought them JACK DANIALS he had wandered off in a snow storm with no coat no shoes etc,,called cops they said since he was so close to 16 they wouldnt actively search for him but they would keep theyre eyes open,my best friends dad was a undercover cop still at athe time and thank god because he called out the troops found my son 3 am ,,,cops and drs said 15 more minutes he wouldve been dead,if he had sat and rested,he had alcohol poisoning.,hypothermia, frostbite,,,i cant understand how no one worried until a day later to look for this girl 17 or not,,and yes i made a piont of charging that mother that bought the jack danials,c’mon im not a prude or anything if he had wanted a beer at home and wasnt going anywhere what the hell, not a 6 pack but a beer here and there, but jack danials for young kids!!the best thing that happened he was sicker then a dog for days and the whole experiance scared the shit outta him,,hes 23 in university and going through for a psychologist and he will freely admit that it scared the shit out of him and im glad,,so if your kid is past curfew and thats NOT like them start making the calls,,when we were told that 15 more minutes and we would ve been making funeral arrangements(exact words from dr) i learned to trust my own gut and my own heart because my husband kept saying”dont call wait for him to call,he knows hes to call”"let him make his own bed” and that has stuck with my husband even 8 yrs later, the “what ifs” my son remembers drinking 10 shots then cant remember after that,,nice parents to have a party like that eh??

Mother used to say, “It’s not fun if someone is crying.” The way kids have fun these days, it should be changed to “It’s not fun if someone is dying.” This party hearty stuff by kids who are barely out of childhood is a scary development.

yes its very scarey, and i was married young had both kids by 19 so when mine hit “tween and teen hood” they seemed to forget i was still young enough and smart enough to remember all the tricks in the book ,i have to say though i was veryyyyyyyyyyy lucky with both of mine the incident with my son (above) was the worst by far,but i really was lucky with mine,my best friend always said that our house was like the army,,it wasnt they had freedom but they also had us checking stuff out before we would let them go,and we checked that parents were gonna be home at that party, but the parents were the worst ones buying 13,14,15 yr olds J.D,, the mother actually(and i swear to god this is true) she told the cops she tried talking them into just smoking weed instead of drinking!!and both of my best friends boys are both incarcerated for a verrrry longtime so i guess my boot camp payed off,,whisper

so very sad.
alcohol poisoning ? how do you drown in the woods a marshy area unless you knock out cold in the first place.
this concerns me if someone held her under and drowned her, they search what two days before finding her – someone moved the body so she could be found.
calling an accident, to protect a family member ?
She said a cousin was picking her up when she left the group, is there any comments from the cousin ? like … i couldn’t find her, I waited awhile, I called her cell phone and got no answer, I don’t know what they are talking about, I never told anyone I was coming, I don’t even know where the airport it…
What is the cousin saying ?
who supplied and purchased the booze ?

Wow. Funny…and thank goodness nothing bad happened to you. Reminds me of George McGovern’s daughter who left a bar in upstate NY, hammered, and sat down on a snow bank to chill…unfortunately, she passed out and “chilled” big time. Snow plows covered her w/ snow and she wasn’t found til weeks later when there was a thaw. Sucked for her two wee kiddos.
I thought this was very likely.
Eh, she could have passed out facedown. You can drown in 2 inches of water (or less, I’m sure), as they always say. If she threw up, that could also contribute…drowning in one’s vomit is a possibility.
Very sad story here.
2:22 pm on October 26th, 2008
This area has a number of marshes, is quite a large second growth woods, and even residents experienced in these woods say it is easy to get lost. The use of the term “airport” has mislead a lot of people I think, making them think it was an area with lights and sidewalks and service roads. NOT. It is old, abandanoned, and in complete disrepair. And it was never much to begin with. If she was walking from the woods near the runway to meet a car, then where she was found makes sense. She was stumbling her way toward Miller Street would be a guess and she fell or passed out, or both, in the marshy area near the river. She could have gotten onto what she thought was a footpath and followed it only to find she was acutally on a deer path that was leading her deeper into thickets instead of toward the road. The night was in the 30’s which probably didn’t help her state of mind as she got more lost and more cold. If she went down face down, she could have drown easily. Sadly, it makes sense that this was an accident following a series of poor choices.
