Nevada Amber Alert: Cole Puffinburger

October 16, 2008 at 1:47 am by

UPDATE 10/19/08 -Cole Puffinburger has been found SAFE in Las Vegas.

At about 11:30 EST last night, a citizen called police about a little boy walking the streets in Las Vegas. When police arrived to get the child, they found that he was Cole Puffinburger. Cole was taken to a hospital to be checked out but appears to be relatively unharmed, at least physically. Details at the bottom of this article.

Las Vegas, NV - Early Wednesday morning, six-year-old Cole Puffinburger was kidnapped from his Las Vegas home by two or three armed Hispanic men posing as police officers. At least, that’s the story police got when they were called yesterday by Cole’s mother.

9qiqdw Nevada Amber Alert: Cole Puffinburger

Cole Puffinburger and Clemens Tinnemeyer

She reported that three men had knocked on the door of the family home at about 7:15 a.m. and identified themselves as police. When she let the men into the home, they demanded money from Cole’s grandfather, who hasn’t lived in the home since 2007. When told that the grandfather did not live at the home, the men tied up Cole, his mother, and her boyfriend, and ransacked the house. When they didn’t find money, the mother reported, the men took her son at gunpoint.

Um.. what?

Thing is, this crime happened in a well populated area. As Steve Huff pointed out at his blog, that neighborhood is not exactly rural. And we’re expected to believe that nobody saw three Hispanic guys rolling around with a towhead-blond six year old little boy? Something’s rotten in Vegas, kids.  Particularly since nobody has been able to describe a getaway vehicle, or even determine for sure whether there were two guys, or three.

Only one suspect was even been described last night. He’s said to be in his thirties, 5’7″, 150 pounds, Hispanic with slicked-back shoulder-length dark hair and brown eyes, wearing jeans and a white t-shirt, and speaks with a Mexican accent. Just this morning, a vague description of the second abductor was released: early thirties, 5’9″, with a thin build, wearing a tan, red and brown shirt with vertical stripes. It’s not known what role, if any, the third guy played in Cole’s kidnapping. At this point he is described only as Hispanic or Latino.

An Amber Alert took several hours to issue because there wasn’t even a marginal suspect description until noon yesterday. The Alert now encompasses southern Nevada and parts of California and New Mexico. And Cole Puffinburger has vanished into the desert air, it seems. With no vehicle description, it’s like this little boy has dropped off the face of the earth.

Is it possible that armed men showed up at the house, demanded money, and kidnapped a child at gunpoint? Sure, it’s possible, if someone owed enough money to the wrong people, or if the child had been spotted from a distance some time before. Is it likely? My Imp-sense says there’s more to this story than we’ve heard.

Cole Puffinburger is six years old. He’s 3 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs about 48 pounds. His mother says he was last seen wearing a black John Cena t-shirt under a black hoodie sweatshirt with skulls on it, dark jeans, and black Vans tennis shoes. He also had on his silver-rimmed glasses. Cole has blond hair and blue eyes. If you see him, call 911.

UPDATE 10/17/08 - Police now say that there is a “significant drug link” between the family of Cole Puffinburger and the alleged kidnappers. Steve broke it before the press did, but police say that they are looking for Clemens F. Tinnemeyer, Jr. – Cole’s grandfather – in connection with Cole’s abduction. Apparently Grandpa Tinnemeyer owes a drug cartel somewhere between $8 million and $20 million dollars. Well, there’s your motive, denizens.  As of this afternoon, Cole has not been located.

UPDATE 10/18/08 – Clemens F. Tinnemeyer, Jr. has been arrested in Riverside, California. Tinnemeyer has been called a “person of interest” in Cole’s abduction, which is believed to be a “message” sent to Tinnemeyer by the cartel. Cole remains missing. Federal agents say they are hopeful that Cole is still alive.

UPDATE 10/19/08 - At about 11:30 EST last night, a citizen called police about a little boy walking the streets in a neighborhood northeast of the Strip in Las Vegas. When police arrived to get the child, they found that he was Cole Puffinburger. Cole was taken to a hospital to be checked out but appears to be relatively unharmed, at least physically.

Now that Cole is safe, the investigation into his kidnapping will continue, along with the investigation into the drug ring and extortion that sparked Cole’s abduction. Jesus Gastelum remains a person of interest in the case. No word yet on what will happen to Cole’s grandfather, Clemens Tinnemeyer. He is not a suspect in his grandson’s kidnapping but was being held as a material witness due to his theft of millions of dollars from the drug dealers that took the boy.

As per usual, I’ll update as any new info comes in.

I smell a fucking rat. In fact, I smell three most likely non-existent armed Hispanic rats. I hope I’m wrong, I really do, because I’ve had just about all the lying, baby-killing, scumbag parent stories I can take.

Why wouldn’t they issue an amber alert because they didn’t know what the suspects look like, they know what the little boy looks like? I hope this turns out ok, but agreed with everyone something is missing…..also I know that there are a lot of hispanics/latinos (is there a difference? Seriously wondering, not trying to sound racist) in the Las Vegas area so it seems like a likely suspect to blame since they would be hard to find – Maybe???

I have heard this expression my whole life, I always knew it meant really blond. My grandpa uses it to describe my two boys, one of which is just about the age of this little guy.

God bless this sweet baby, I hope he is ok, but that story don’t sound right. How could anyone hurt a sweet child?? Just look at that smile…precious!!

Sounds hinky to me. First clue is, its mom and her boyfriend. There are just way too many mothers who kill their kids when the new penis does not want them around.

A kidnap by 3 Mexicans in daylight, a grandfather gone since 2007. Hmm. Just how ransacked was that house? Lets hear about the possible criminal record of mom and current bf.

More to come, and probably a shallow desert grave for another sad, abused child.

Hope they release more about mom, b/f, and grandfather (who doesn’t even live there anymore).

Something in this story stinks….this is so not the truth! Either the parents know where the kid is, or they did something. Sorry to sound so cinical, but time and time again we hear these “stories” & then the parents end up being the suspects. I pray to God, I am wrong…but I doubt it.

I know the family and there is definitely more to the story. The grandfather is mixed up in something bad, I don’t know exactly what but I know they’re telling the truth. Other family members are afraid for what will happen to them, I just hope his grandfather comes out from whatever rock he has crawled under so poor Cole can come home.

His parents are NOT to blame for this! I blame his grandfather for being the ass that he is and not taking care of whatever mess he has gotten into this time so his family would be safe. His daughter has no contact with him, but look what she has to go through now. It’s crazy, sad and scary. I’m praying Cole gets home safe, and soon!

Echoing what JustSomeoneShort said, there, I went looking and found a comment on another site that seems… at once interesting and bad bad news.

I quote: Look people there is so much more to this story than is being reported and no the mother is not involved in any way. I know this family personally. The three hispanic men are part of a mexican drug cartel. The grandfather of this little boy is a piece of shit drug smuggler, he stole money from the drug cartel and they are taking this boy in retaliation in hopes that the grandfather will come out of hiding and give himself up the money up or whatever , I do not know. I do know the boy is obviously in great danger and it is all because his grandfather decided to steal money from the wrong people. This boy was targeted because they have been unable to track him down and they could easily find his daughter and her son and we all know how these drug cartels work. The mother had received threats from these people a few months back but has no contact with her father so was unable to do anything about it. I assume there is good reason that the police are not reporting all these details but I assure you that this little boy is missing and the mother or boyfriend have nothing to do with it. I know this sounds like it is out of a movie but it is the sad truth. The money they were looking for was a very large sum in the millions stolen from the cartel. So now that you know this it should make sense that taking the grandson might encourage the thieving grandfather to come out of hiding which is what I think they are hoping for. Pray for this little boy and most importantly be on the lookout for him.

LadyEridan (are you a gamer, by the way??)–Interesting–thanks for posting that!

And impqueen, I can see why you wrote this article in the first place. Does sound fishy. There are so many stories where the parents did a baaaad thing and try to cover it up with a story to the tune of “the hispanic (or, usually, black) dude took my kid.”

I hope he’s found, and soon!

(I was totally the kid with glasses, so I always feel especially poignant about little dudes and dudettes with glasses :(

I’m really worried about this one. I get the feeling the kid is probably already dead. The Mexican cartels do not f**k around.

I don’t know why, but my first feeling upon reading this was that it was going to wind up being the result of some shady dealings of the grandfather. Maybe I watch too many movies.

As for why noone else in the neighborhood noticed? I don’t know for sure, but I can tell you this…
My neighbor just moved out because his house has been burglarized 4 times in the last 6 months in broad daylight. We live on a small circle, surrounded by retirees that are home all day, either out doing yard work, walking their dogs, or gossiping with neighbors.
I myself am home the majority of the day with my office window open. Not to mention there is a policeman less than 4 houses down who’s wife makes it her business to keep an eye on everyone coming in and out of the neighborhood.
    Noone saw a damn thing.
And these crooks didn’t just steal any old thing…they stole four of my neighbor’s guns, including his shotgun and hunting rifle.

I hope like hell they find this little boy alive. I can’t even imagine how terrified he must be.

It definitely seems suspicious to me that no one is able to provide a decent description of the three men. I suppose I’ll just have to wait and see what happens next, though. In the meantime, I’ll be praying for Cole.

People please don’t judge you definitely don’t know the whole story. Please keep in mind there is a innocent little boy missing and in danger and a family who loves him and is worried sick. If this was you the last thing you would need was people accusing you of things that aren’t true. The point of all of this is to find this little boy and bring him home safely. I would like to remind everyone that kidnappers often change a child’s appearance so it is easier for them to move around with them. If these people are planning on taking him across the border it is highly likely they will not keep his blonde hair and may even remove his glasses. So don’t just be on the lookout for a blond boy with glasses look for a scared boy with three men who may fit the description or even one just be on the lookout for something that doesn’t look or seem right, this is how crimes are solved everyday and this is how we can bring these poor kids home. Please just remember they may get creative so just think they probably will change his hair to a dark color to have him fit in with them but you can tell a dye job so look for it. Look for anything that may help bring this boy home, ANYTHING!!! Also I think finding the grandfather is the key but lets try everything possible to insure this boy gets back to where he belongs.

I hope you’re wrong LadyEridan, I want him coming home safe and sound. You’re right though, Mel, they may have changed his appearance. They are probably also not out anywhere with him. My guess is that they never left the area and are holding him somewhere, probably in touch with the grandfather to let him know. If only the grandfather were in touch with the rest of the family that might make a difference. This is a horrible situation and I’m just hoping his grandfather decides to be a decent human being (for once) and help bring him home.

JustSomeoneShort, I hope I’m wrong too. This kid deserves to be back with his family.

ConcernedCitizen – d’you ever watch that show about how to make your home more safe? with the two jackasses that break into your house with your permission to show you where the security holes are? they all say the same thing, the key is looking like you belong there. if you don’t arouse suspicion by skulking, you can get away with a lot.

and Mel123 – please, if you know more about the situation and can share without putting yourself or a potential case at risk, feel free to enlighten us. We often have family members sharing information that they can safely share. Like any other group of people, we can only make our decisions and form our opinions on what information we have. If you think we’re out of line being concerned because what we’ve been able to find says that this may be a revenge kidnapping because of the actions of the grandfather, please, please add to what we know! imperfect information leads to imperfect conclusions.

I really don’t think it’s that odd that nobody had an accurate description of the perpetrators. For one if they were dressed as cops, then sometimes that’s kind of all you see the uniform. And I don’t know maybe it’s just me, but if someone was holding a gun to my kids head, I wouldn’t be looking at the guy tying me up, I wouldn’t be looking at the guy with the gun, I’d be looking at my child, trying to make eye contact and give them even the slightest bit of security that “mommy is here it’ll be okay” kind of thing. My eyes would not leave there face. Maybe that just me.

I hope they find him and bring him home safe and unharmed. Poor little guy.

The abductors weren’t dressed as cops – at least, not given the description above. Nope.

Now police are looking for Clemens Tinnemeyer, Cole’s grandfather, in connection with the case. It appears he’s into a drug cartel for somewhere between $8 million and $20 million. Well, that’s motive right there.

If indeed the cartel is involved it is likely this child isn’t even alive anymore. Oh, God I hope I am wrong but the chances are slim even if he is alive that he will survive to see his family again….he is only a pawn they don’t see him as a helpless, frightened child.

Sweet boy only six and already caught in the middle of adult dangerous, bullshit. I will pray for this little one….I hope all of the prayers going out on his behalf are answered.

I’ve been praying and trying to watch for every bit of news concerning little Cole. I’m praying he’s ok, and that he’s still alive and not being terrorized.

But I have a really bad feeling this isn’t going to turn out well, I hope i’m wrong. Children should be completely off the table as targets in these wars. But sadly, these monsters don’t care who gets caught in the middle.

I wonder if his grandfather even cares?? I’d offer myself up for my kids or grandchildren. Where the hell is he hiding? Fucking coward………

I sadly knew there was more to this than some off the wall home invasion robbery. No one robs a house gets nothing and than takes a kid Hell you can’t sell the kid so that is not likely to happen.

I pray to God this child is ok but with a Cartel involved sadly it offers little hope. Send the child home and shoot granpa damn it why hurt a lil boy who had not a damn thing to do with this shit.

I will keep praying though that this works out for the best.

I know what I have read on other blogs. I wish I knew more that could help find him because I would shout it from the rooftops. I thought of the change in appearance thing because of things others have said about how 3 mexican men with a blonde boy would definitely stand out and a blonde, blue eyed boy would for sure stand out in Mexico. I also remember a woman that once took a girl from Disneyland and took her into the bathroom there and died her hair immediately before attempting to leave the park with her. Luckily she was caught but I always think of this when children go missing, that their appearance is often altered to keep them from be recognized. If I think of anything else that may help I will definitely post. In the meantime people if you have a myspace or facebook post this Amber Alert on there, also maybe write new media outlets to report this more or write to Nancy Grace to pick this up Nationally, I know I already did (make sure she knows the parents are not involved she does have a way of jumping to false conclusions and crucifying innocent parents, but her exposure is priceless)

    Saturday update. Nice people.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (CNN) — The man wanted for questioning in the drug-related abduction of his 6-year-old grandson in Las Vegas, Nevada, has been apprehended in California, a dispatcher for a San Bernardino County detention center said early Saturday.

A nationwide Amber Alert has been issued for Cole Puffinburger, 6, of Las Vegas, Nevada.

The dispatcher, who did not give her name, said Clemens F. Tinnemeyer, 51, was arrested late Friday night in Riverside, California.

Earlier Friday, Las Vegas police said they wanted to question him in the case of his grandson’s abduction.

Cole Puffinburger was snatched from his Las Vegas home Wednesday by three armed men who tied up the boy’s mother and her fiance.

Police Capt. Vincent Cannito told reporters that Tinnemeyer has been involved in “significant drug dealing” worth millions of dollars.

Tinnemeyer owns a sightseeing motor home service and works as a driver, police said.

He was last seen in Las Vegas on May 21. At the time, he was driving a white Dodge extended-cab pickup with Mississippi license plates KA6251.

He last contacted his family in August and was reported missing in September.

Authorities said Thursday that the case is related to “illegal narcotics activity” and that the family was targeted; Cannito said Friday that Cole was kidnapped by drug dealers attempting to recover lost money and property.

“These are extremely dangerous people,” Cannito said. “This is as bad as it gets.”

At least two of the three suspects posed as police officers to enter Cole’s home about 7:25 a.m. Wednesday, police said. They tied up the boy’s mother and her fiancé and ransacked the house before kidnapping the boy when no money was found, they said.

In a story published Friday, The Las Vegas Review-Journal quoted unnamed sources as saying a member of the boy’s family owes a Mexican drug cartel between $8 million and $20 million, describing the relative as an alleged money launderer for the cartel and saying the person was in hiding.

A search for the boy spans much of the American Southwest, and a nationwide Amber Alert was in effect.

Cole is described as being 3 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 48 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. He was wearing a sweat shirt, dark jeans and silver-rimmed prescription glasses, authorities said.

The kidnappers were described as three Hispanic men who spoke with heavy accents.

National and local authorities have said that such drug-related abductions are occurring more frequently in communities near the Mexican border.

Anyone with more information is asked to call Las Vegas Metropolitan Police at 702-828-5678.

Where’s the outrage? Lets see how the national media covers this. Where’s our lovely fucking politicians? Shit, we Americans accept so much bullshit! We just bend over and take it over and over and over again.

Don’t look for any help in this election. Both the empty suit and the old geezer are going to give 20 million more illegal aliens amnesty. This country has been well and truly ratfucked by our sleazy politicians and big business. Maybe we should all move to Mexico, its going to be empty soon, they are all up here.

Now police are looking for Clemens Tinnemeyer, Cole’s grandfather, in connection with the case. It appears he’s into a drug cartel for somewhere between $8 million and $20 million. Well, that’s motive right there.

from what i have read on another crime site he was laundering the money and stealing as it was being done, truck loads of small bills brought into nevada and his job was to cash them into larger bills at casinos, hotels etc and send back to the drug cartel, well he was skimming and now they want the money but he left his family and ran leaving them the target!nice father/grandpa eh??who the hell is stupid enough to steal that amount of money especially from the mexican drug cartel!!!!i have heard enough on news lately of 12-13 bodies piled on top of each other killed by mexican drug guys!!but i am really shocked by the fact they took this child,i am a real addict at reading REAL crime stories and have for yrs and i have to say most any crime syndicate(sp) doesnt hurt children,,so this is disturbing to see things turning this way

Blue is right, there’s no way to fight a “war on drugs” when people happen to like doing drugs. It’s not a US-Mexico issue. The number one cash crop is California is pot.

That said, there IS a way to deal with this–decriminalization (not quite the same as legalization, though that’s also an idea). Prohibition didn’t work for alcohol, and it doesn’t seem to be working too well for other drugs, either, so what else is there to do?

If drugs are fully legalized, you can then make laws regulating usage. And, perhaps most importantly, NO MORE DRUG CARTELS KIDNAPPING LITTLE BOYS. etc. And Bye-bye jails full of pot dealers instead of violent criminals.

And then…well…frankly…perhaps it would be wise for the government to become involved in the production and regulation of marijuana in particular…so much more harmless than the alcohol (and, healthwise, the cigarettes) it aleady produces and regulates. And then? Bye-bye national debt. Bye-bye crappy and substandard weed. No, but seriously.

I imagine that in due time this will be the case.

My Mom has her Medical Marijuana card and the stuff she gets from the dispensary, OMG. I take her to her dispensary and when she gets in my car with it, about 20 miles down the road, it smells like I have a crop in my backseat! Just from opening the little plastic prescription bottles and showing me. She has her “daytime” pot and her “nighttime” pot. I do not call after 8:00 pm, LOL!

that is defiantly not a good sign… bless his little heart…

That said, there IS a way to deal with this–decriminalization (not quite the same as legalization, though that’s also an idea). Prohibition didn’t work for alcohol, and it doesn’t seem to be working too well for other drugs, either, so what else is there to do?

i did my sociology paper on this very topic lol… like 4 years ago..

If drugs are fully legalized, you can then make laws regulating usage. And, perhaps most importantly, NO MORE DRUG CARTELS KIDNAPPING LITTLE BOYS. etc. And Bye-bye jails full of pot dealers instead of violent criminals.

you should watch the penn and teller’s bullshit episode about the war on drugs.. they make a very very good point about all these things…

No, but seriously.

they really really need to do somthing!

I do not call after 8:00 pm, LOL!

your mom is very lucky. if it were legal i would smoke it.. and it would help me with my pain very much. but i don’t because i do not wish to get in any trouble.

Some states do have the right idea! I’m not a single-issue voter, and if I were this wouldn’t be my single issue (LOL, of course), but you can probably guess which party I like better.

Anyway, I just think some “Wars” cannot be won. Even if we call them “Wars.” Might say that about a few thing we’re facing and paying out the ass for at the moment.

But, anway, this poor little boy! …This is not good that the Amber Alert was stopped, right?

My mom has been taking about 5 pills, 2x day since her surgery and the pot helps with pain AND the nausea that comes from taking her pills.

The sucky thing with CA’s MM law is that it is legal for medical use, but the fucking feds keep shutting down the dispensaries.

My mom’s dispensary looks and runs like a professional medical office. Scrubs and all. Very hoity-toity.

I’m not real familiar with the Libertarian Party and their positions. You might be right. Gotta have our Borders, Language and Culture protected too. She’s hot about that too!

It’s too bad we didn’t have a viable 3rd Party.

Teeny little Denmark has 13 or 14 parties, including the Feminist Party.
I don’t know if they have a Pot Party or not…come to think of it, there’s a part of Copenhagen–can’t remember what it’s called–where it’s like a mini amped-up Amsterdam, no drug laws at all.

I think of Liberterians as mosrly amped-up conservatives, with a smattering up amped-up Lefties thrown in. Odd bag! I’d summarize it as: they don’t want the gov’t interfering in anything at all. Me, I’m way too cynical to ever be liberterian (or, for that matter, anarchist). I don’t trust people to be good people, so I want the gov’t to be “for the people”–make sure people don’t act like assholes. I also want them to grow me high-grade pot for my arthritis, but alas I’m not in Cali ;)

well thats the thing exactly,,here you can legally have someone grow pot for you,,ex: i am a nurse and i have a client with MS she has the papers for ANYONE to fill out and grow pot for her,BUT you have to get the seeds from the goverment here and they are the weakest things ever so the Medicinal Pot is basically like a stale cigarette,,not worth it at all because it doesnt do anything but the goverment wont allow anything stronger. So when people think of Canadian Pot they all call it B.C Bud and thats the strength that patients need to make a difference and help them,,i cant stress enough the good it does for cancer patients,MS patients etc but it needs to be high grade as you said,,whisper

Las Vegas Police say they’ve issued a number of warrants for people they’re seeking in connection with the kidnapping of Cole Puffinburger. Two people are said to be in custody. Vegas authorities are seeking a person of interest named Jesus Gasteleon. Gasteleon is a thirty-something Mexican national. Cole Puffinburger’s mother, Julie A. Puffinburger, is, according to Fox5Vegas.com, “now also being investigated in connection with her involvement in the cartel.” [Fox5Vegas.com]
this was just updated at 9:07 pm tonight,,,here also is another comment from another site,,Cannito also said authorities had interviewed Cole’s grandfather. Clemons F. Tinnemeyer, 51, is being held as a material witness after his arrest Friday night in Riverside, California

Cannito said police had interviewed another unidentified person and asked for the public’s help in locating Jesus Gastelum, a third person of interest.

In the past 24 hours, Cannito said, authorities had executed search warrants in several jurisdictions, with a large amount of cash and evidence recovered, though he did not elaborate,,
so while its good they have a few leads to go on and seem to feel they are closer,,i cant help but wonder with the cops finding people and money and drugs how the head honchos of the drug cartel are going to react to all this attention being focused on them more then ever,,if they had hoped this would be a silent message sent to the family(asshole grandpa) to get money back its blown up full force and law enforcement are going to stop at nothing or anyone to get that baby back and in the process clean up some mexican drug guys while they do it,,whisper

Just my guess, but I’d bet that little boy is in Mexico by now (if he’s still alive).

Cole Puffinburger’s mother, Julie A. Puffinburger, is, according to Fox5Vegas.com, “now also being investigated in connection with her involvement in the cartel.” [Fox5Vegas.com]

OMG! If she had anything at all to do with this, I hope she rots in hell.

My little girl is the same age as this boy. It breaks my heart to think of what he must be going through.

Thank the Heavens this little one is alive and well.
As far as the question what will happen to Granpa I can answer that. The Cartel got what they wanted all along a bead on the Grandfather. Now that they Know right where he is, they will handle that little matter all in good time. OR
Someone Grandpa a friend of grandpa whatever made sure those folks found their money and were promptly paid.

I am sure the Cartel folks were Not happy with all this damn publicity and figured hell we know where he is he will be in jail and we got folks in all the jails. They know how a line on him they can put their hands on him. Hell they are likely to have someone go get arrested on some petty crap just to go have a sit down with him I put nothing past them That is a lot of dough he took off the top and he will have to pay it back or pay something. He sure will be of no further help now with all the fed attention so i am guessing they will handle that in the prison system.
I do wonder though how much Gramps has told the feds He is likely a marked man anyway.

I am just so Thankful this child is alive I have to admit I was one who thought sure he was gone. YIPPPEEE!

    Love that name Cole …

When I woke up, i saw a report the dad’s smiling face… saying that he was finished for the nite passing out flyers and was going to look at some news reports to get updates when he got the phone call, “we found him” and his response was found who? He was sooo tickled …

This made me realize that since the mom has a b/f and the grandfathers name is not puffinburger but Tinnemeyer he is probably the mothers father… I see this is not over… if they are linking her with this carpel she should lose custody – oh poor kid… I am not saying that Cole’s dad is innocent either… But this might not turn out so good for Cole if he is misplaced into a new home or foster care. Keep Cole in your prayers.

I am not understanding why you would think that this situation would end up with this Child removed from this home??
They were out putting up fliers The Mom and boyfriend and this child went through hell All behind some bullshit of a family member. Frankly that has No bearing at least in my eyes on this child’s living arrangments or his well being.
I seriously doubt there would be any issues.

South Texas sheriff accused of aiding Mexican drug cartel
12:00 AM CDT on Sunday, October 19, 2008

(I find this odd this is being posted immediately after… Cole was located)

    http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/texassouthwest/stories/DN-sheriff_19tex.ART.State.Edition1.4adddc7.html

McALLEN, Texas – A South Texas sheriff who was arrested last week on drug trafficking charges made it easier for the Mexican Gulf Cartel to operate in his county and endangered fellow law enforcement agents by sharing names of confidential informants, a federal prosecutor said Friday.

FBI agents arrested Starr County Sheriff Reymundo Guerra on Tuesday at his office in Rio Grande City. Sheriff Guerra faces three charges as part of an indictment implicating him and 14 others in a drug smuggling conspiracy.

    .
. (see link for mid section) the end of this article appears a bit twisted.
    .
    .

Sheriff Guerra’s attorney, Philip Hilder, said that Sheriff Guerra shared information with Mr. Hinojosa because he believed he worked for the Mexican equivalent of the district attorney’s office. Mr. Hinojosa had helped Sheriff Guerra locate fugitives in the past, Mr. Hilder said.

But Ms. Gutierrez said the recorded conversations were not like those between fellow law enforcement officers.

Federal prosecutor Toni Trevino asked U.S. Magistrate Judge Dorina Ramos to hold Sheriff Guerra without bail until his trial.

Judge Ramos was particularly concerned because Starr County Judge Eloy Vera had said Sheriff Guerra could resume his duties as sheriff until the trial.

Mr. Hilder said Friday that Sheriff Guerra would be willing to take a leave of absence if granted bail.

The judge said she would rule on the bail Monday.

Oh well i did not see that mentioned in your post I only seen mention of different last names.

One line about the mom’s involvement in the cartel, and it says there is no news about whether she’s involved in the abduction.

Other stories on the same site say Cole’s with his father now.

Thank you Jesus. This is the outcome we have all been praying for. Sadly, it’s one we see few of. Now he and his family can get on with their lives, and fix that drug problem which was the reason the little cutie was dragged into. Someone in that house still has a debt to pay to the little boy and society for getting involved.

Abducted Las Vegas boy is returned to his father
    By KATHLEEN HENNESSEY
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 6-year-old boy abducted from his home at gunpoint was safe in his father’s custody Sunday as police tried to untangle any ties the youngster’s family had to the Mexican drug dealers suspected of taking him.

Police were interviewing Cole Puffinburger after he was found by a bus driver Saturday night on a quiet street outside a Methodist church in Las Vegas.

“We’re speaking with the boy today,” FBI spokesman David Staretz said Sunday. “I know he’s being interviewed by law enforcement, and we’ll probably get a better idea of where he’s been.”

Cole’s father, Robert Puffinburger, was a picture of relief at a news conference, as he smiled, cried and thanked police and neighbors for helping to bring Cole home.

“I’m just so glad he’s safe,” his father said.

Staretz would not comment further on what had happened to Cole in the four days since he was snatched from his mother’s home by two men posing as police officers. Police have said they believe the abduction Wednesday was an attempt by drug dealers to send a message to the boy’s grandfather.

A bus driver for the disabled discovered Cole walking alone on a residential street, said Jacob Snow, a general manager for the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada. The driver pulled over to see if he was OK.

“Cole approached the bus and asked the driver, ‘Can you take me home?’” Snow said.

The bus driver, who did not want to be identified, took Cole onto the bus and contacted police, Snow said. The child told the driver and riders that he had been dropped off just a few minutes before.

Cole was in “extremely good condition” but was taken to University Medical Center as a precaution, Las Vegas police Capt. Vincent Cannito said. He was treated and released to his father’s care early Sunday, hospital spokesman Rick Plummer said.

Robert Puffinburger and police had concentrated search efforts on a largely Hispanic neighborhood a few miles from where Cole was found. They posted fliers in English and Spanish with a photograph of the boy, a slight, smiling blond in glasses.

On Sunday, a blue painted sign in the front yard of the home from which Cole was abducted read, “Welcome Home Cole.” The home appeared sparsely furnished, with a bare mattress on the living room floor. No one answered the door.

Robert Puffinburger would not comment on Cole’s mother or her father, 51-year-old Clemens Tinnemeyer, who police say may have stolen millions from dealers involved in trafficking methamphetamine.

Tinnemeyer was scheduled to appear before a federal magistrate Monday in Riverside, Calif. He was arrested there Friday and was being held in nearby San Bernardino on a material witness warrant issued by a federal court in Nevada.

Las Vegas police didn’t know whether Tinnemeyer had a lawyer. Police have declined to elaborate on what role he played in the drug operation or whether the kidnappers had been seeking a ransom.

Tinnemeyer described himself as a carpenter of 22 years when he and his wife, Diane, filed for bankruptcy in 2001. The couple live in an older Las Vegas neighborhood of weathered rambler-style homes on acre lots. A rooster crowed from a nearby yard Sunday.

The Tinnemeyers have lived there for close to 20 years, according to a neighbor who didn’t want to be identified because he feared for his safety.

Until about two years ago, the house was busy with cars coming and going, he said. Cole was often at the home in the care of his grandmother, who works in a lunchroom of the local elementary school.

Tinnemeyer spent time in what he said was a recording studio behind the home, the neighbor said. He left in a motor home in May. The neighbor said he continued to see Diane Tinnemeyer daily but had not seen her husband since.

Messages left at a number believed to be for the Tinnemeyer home were not returned. A black pickup truck sat in the driveway Sunday, but no one came to the door.

Staretz said authorities continued the search Sunday for another “person of interest,” a Mexican citizen identified as Jesus Gastelum.

Gastelum, who is in his mid-30s, is believed to be in Las Vegas or Southern California, police said. Another “person of interest” in police custody Saturday was not identified.

CNN) — A woman was arrested in connection with the abduction of 6-year-old Cole Puffinburger from his Nevada home last week, the FBI said MondayTerri Leavy, 42, is believed to be the companion of Cole’s grandfather, Clemens Fred Tinnemeyer, 51.

Both were wanted on federal material witness warrants issued in Las Vegas, Nevada, related to Cole’s disappearance last Wednesday from his Las Vegas home, authorities said.

Fontana, California, police arrested Leavy Sunday night, an FBI spokeswoman said. The pair is scheduled to appear before a federal magistrate in Riverside, California, on Monda
Cole was found Saturday night after armed men took him from his home in what police are calling a drug-related kidnapping.

A bus driver picked up Cole as he was wandering alone down a sidewalk in Las Vegas’ east side.

Julio Diaz said Cole asked for a ride and “was never shy to ask for help.”

“I realized it was a police matter. Something was not right, and I would have to find out what was going on with that boy,” said Diaz, who told reporters that he didn’t immediately recognize the boy.

Cole was reunited with his family after medical checks, Capt. Vince Cannito of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said Monday.
He was in good shape; he was extremely healthy,” Cannito said.

Tinnemeyer was arrested in Riverside in connection with the warrant from Las Vegas, where police are focusing on a possible drug link to Cole’s abduction. Citing sources and police, the Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper has reported Tinnemeyer may have stolen millions from a Mexican drug cartel, although police have not said what role he may have played in the drug operation or whether the child’s abductors were seeking a ransom. Officer Cris Johnson told the newspaper authorities believe methamphetamine was involved.

“The remainder of the investigation now shifts, the focus now goes on to the drug dealing and potential extortion,” Cannito of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said Sunday.

Before his arrest, police said Tinnemeyer was involved in “significant drug dealing” involving millions of dollarsCannito had said earlier that Cole was kidnapped by drug dealers attempting to recover lost money and property.

Three armed men, some posing as police, snatched the boy Wednesday after they tied up his mother and her fiance and ransacked the home, officers have said.

Cole’s father, Robert Puffinburger, said the emotion he felt after being informed that his son was safe was “indescribable.”

“I’m just glad he’s safe,” Puffinburger said at Sunday’s news conference, his voice breaking. “I can’t wait to see him!”

The boy’s disappearance sparked a mass hunt around Las Vegas, Nevada, and a nationwide Amber Alert.

A large amount of cash and evidence have been recovered in several jurisdictions, Cannito said. He gave no further details.

Also authorities are seeking a man for questioning called Jesus Gastelum, Cannito said Saturday.

Also authorities are seeking a man for questioning called Jesus Gastelum, Cannito said Saturday.

just an update i found on custody of cole puffinburger i knew alot were wondering about who would have custoday of him heres a news report from today,,,,The parents of Cole Puffinburger, the six-year-old boy kidnapped and released earlier this month, fought over custody of the boy in family court Wednesday. This as his mother and grandfather are still being investigated by Metro for their roles in what lead to the abduction.

The judge heard from both sides of the case hoping to ensure Cole winds up in the safest place possible.

“The one thing we do know is that dad is not under investigation and it is believed, not only by the law enforcement authorities but also by the Victim’s Services Unit, that Cole is best protected by and safe in dad’s care,” said attorney Bryce Duckworth.

Cole’s disappearance worried the whole community. He was not on hand for the custody proceedings. His father, Robert Puffinburger, told Eyewitness News his son is okay, “He is handling things well.”

During the hearing, a Metro Lieutenant testified Metro Lieutenant testified that Cole would be safer with his father. He said Cole’s mother previously tried faking a kidnapping to get the attention of Cole’s grandfather’s, Clemens Tinnemayer.

The lieutenant also told the court that during the real kidnapping the perpetrators called Cole’s mother by name, “Why would you think that the boy is safer with the father when everybody knows who he is and nobody knows who the mother is? Because I know when the abductors came into the residence looking for her father or cash or drugs or whatever it was they were looking for, they spoke to Julie by name.”

In the end, the judge decided to give custody to Cole’s father. His mother will be allowed supervised visitation on weekends. After court, Julie Puffinburger and her fiancé ran from the building without comment.

Cole’s father took a moment to give thanks, “I would like to thank everyone in the community once again for helping out.”

Lawyers for Robert Puffinburger say this was not a win as much as a return to the status quo. They say they do not seek to keep Cole from his mother, “We have emphasized that to the court that Cole needs to spend time with his mother. But the foremost concern for us is making sure that he is safe, that emotionally he has had some time to deal with this trauma and recover from what has happened.”

In the meantime, police say they have leads on a person of interest in the kidnapping, Jesus Gastelum. Detectives say they are getting closer to tracking him down.

The detective also testified that the federal government was looking into Clemens Tinnemeyer even before Cole was kidnapped.

There will be another hearing on Cole’s custody November 7, 2008.

Thursday, October 30, 2008 knew the mom was in on it…WTF!!! is wrong with people? Hopefully Cole will be able to deal with this and het passed it..it will take time, but hopefully he won’t be scarred to much. Fry the mom!!
