Jova Gomez at dreamindemon.com

New Castle County, DE – Mommies, talk to me. You have a 12-year-old daughter. Your daughter has surgery. Your daughter gets released from the hospital, probably still out of it and woozy from whatever drugs they gave her. You being the good mom, what do you do next? Lock her in the car while you go shopping, right?

Well, that’s exactly what 37-year-old Jova Gomez did FridayFriday reviewsFriday reviews. She drove her car to her employer’s house, parked it and locked it up (with her daughter inside), and then went shopping with her employer. For two hours. A concerned neighbor called 911 when she heard the teen screaming from inside the car. My guess is she wasn’t practicing for HalloweenHalloween reviewsHalloween reviews while waiting for her mom to return. Gomez has been charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child; her daughter was returned to the hospital for evaluation.

I have some mixed feelings on this one. Is Jova Gomez just stupid? Was the car-as-recuperative-ward her way to handle competing demands of motherhood and employment? Was she urging her employer homeward during the shopping trip, or was she relaxed, confident that her kid was still out cold? For her daughter’s sake, I hope that at least Jova Gomez drives a car with a huge back seat.

This stupid bitch. What a selfish, thoughtless thing to do to your kid. I have a hard time believing there was any malice intended in the act, but this kind of stupidity is unforgivable.

Oh, I’m torn on this one, Lizard, and definitely want to hear more details. I can imagine many people living on the edge who have such urgent need of gainful employment that they’ll do some mighty questionable things to ensure they have a paycheck. I mean, perhaps if she didn’t go, she’d lose her job and not be able to feed or house her child. I need more info. I’d also want to know the nature of the surgery, and whether the kid was accustomed to long waits for mom as she had to work.

Ok, ok, I’ll admit that it was a very stupid thing to do. No question. All I’m saying is that the world of competing demands is not black and white for everyone. I’d like to know more about this story, and will look forward to hearing updates.

    Thanks Lizard!

when i had my wisdom teeth extracted, i was pretty much out of it afterward for a good long time. however, when i woke up, i had a horrible emotional reaction to the pain medication they’d given me, and i started screaming like a maniac. my husband almost called 911, he was so freaked out. it was a horrible feeling of fear and panic…apparently sometimes people react to anesthesia/painkillers like that. i’m wondering if that’s what happened to this girl. if so, i really feel for her. i’m a grown woman, and it was really scary to wake up feeling like i was panicking, wondering where i was (i was at home in bed, but so disoriented that i didn’t know what was going on) and i wasn’t even alone. :o (

I ALWAYS take care of other business despite what my children may be going through… ALWAYS. I mean DAMN, who can find time in the day to get their groceries done, stop at the bank, or go to the mall to get those high maintenance Nails done!! For Christ sake… give a full time Mom a Break! Damn kid … she must have been on Demoral or Morphine or something… she should have been HAPPY. What the hell is wrong with Kids these days, they are sooooooo self-absorbed. Its not like it used to be when Kids just shut the hell up and did what their parents told them to do. The World has gone to Hell I tell ya. Selfish Little Bastards! Give ME a Shot of Demoral for Christs sake! Do I got an infraction coming? Mamma can take it. A little lube would be nice. He he he….

unthinkable everything stops when your kid is just released from the hospital. Makes no damn sense… most people don’t even know where their bosses live. She should of took the kid home got her settled asked a neighbor or a sister to sit with her…

Can’t wait to see those Target surveillance tapes LOL.
    …. it better be pharmacy

Personally, I don’t care if she had to work or not. Anyone can tell their boss my child just had surgery and i’m bringing her home. I need to take care of my child.

Or get a babysitter or reschedule the surgery. Anything but leave your child in a car for two freakin hours right after leaving the hospital.

I have lost a job before to take care of my kids, granted, it wasn’t that great of a job, but still.

And yes, waking up from the anistethic can cause either the major giggles or horrifying reactions. But imigane waking up in a car all by yourself when you’re 12.

I don’t care what her reasons are, this was wrong……

I’ve had surgery many times and my hubby left me in the car just long enough to run in the pharmacy to get my pain meds. I was woozy, but felt terrible, and couldn’t wait to get home and get in the bed.
I feel terrible for this child!

The girl probably panicked. Just doesn’t seem right to leave her in a car after surgery, all you want to do is be in your bed and at 12 she probably could of at least been by herself for a litte while….in her own home! Where are this lady’s motherly instincts????

I’m with Ruby on this one. It doesn’t make sense. I wonder what kind of surgery it was. Was it a minor surgery..like a tooth extraction maybe? I mean a 12 yr. old is old enough to stay at home by themselves. Did the boss know she left her daughter in the car? and why would a 12 yr. old be screaming inside a car after all they are certainly old enough to have the intelligence to reach up and unlock the door and get out… odd story.
I wish they would have told a bit more…

hmm..I googled her name and the only thing extra I could come up with is that they referred to it as minor surgery. Once again not that I’m condoning the unmotherly like behavior, but I’m of the opinion you can’t lock a 12 yr. old inside a car.
