I grew up in Raleigh, graduated from Broughton an embarrassingly large number of years ago…. even back THEN (almost 20 years now) we knew the kids to buy from went to RCC. Of course back then it was more pot and acid than anything, the occasional batch of shrooms… prescription pills weren’t all that big unless it was speed/ADD meds.

About a year ago in the Raleigh-Durham area a boy was killed. He was about 17 and they lured him into the woods saying that they had a good deal on presc. meds. for him. He followed them thinking this was where they were going to do the transaction and was murdered. At least in the Raleigh-Durham area it is rampant, but I have a feeling that it is all over the country as well.

Actually I’ve seen a lot of people come into the methadone clinic addicted to hydrocodone. In my opinion they should try to wean off the hydrocodone because methadone is the worst of drugs to try to kick.

Has anyone seen the movie “Charlie Bartlett”? If not, you should. It’s awesome. But also this story is just like the movie. Rich kids selling prescription drugs to classmates. Although in the movie, he does it to “help” the kids with problems he thinks they have like depression and anxiety.

I doubt that was this chick’s motivation.

Actually I’ve seen a lot of people come into the methadone clinic addicted to hydrocodone. In my opinion they should try to wean off the hydrocodone because methadone is the worst of drugs to try to kick.

Actually i am on Methadone and I used it years ago for addiction purposes. I take it now for pain but I agree with you totally while I think Methadone is a huge help and have seen as well as experienced the benefits of it when taken properly and when you follow the program. I have also seen a huge amount of kids jumping on and off of it trying to find a high. If only they knew methadone does NOT get you high and will if taken and done wrong kill you. However it is Not that hard to get off it if done properly. I had a friend who was on it 15 years. He just got off and done it in 3 months a slow blind detox. Worked perfect he had some sleep issues for a week but is now just fine.
Personally I think it is in the clinic in the success of detox. Many put you off before either you are ready or too quickly
I do have to say again though I know Many addicts who have gotten on followed it and gotten off myself included.
I was on Oxys (legally) and when the doc no longer accepted my insurance well long story shoirt I self medicated and ended up back on heroin.
I decided that was not the path I wanted to stay on again and decided to try the methadone for the pain. Best choice I have ever made. i can function and not be all sleepy and not worry about getting tossed off due to insurance or any thing else.
I do get what you mean though I think a rehab and other means should be tried before trying methadone because it is a longer term means for in my opinion a serious addict. i mean the first time I tried it many many years ago i had been doing heroin for 15 years straight. So in a case like that a 30 day rehab was well pretty useless.

Oh and by the way No Methadone is not the WORSE. Heroin is the worse. Ever kicked a heroin habit with nothing. Not a day in the park take my word for it and I would rather do the Proper way on methadone than kick heroin anyday be it raw or scramble. done it too many times

People who do this shit pisses me off, because it makes it harder for people like me, with real pain, real anxiety, to get the medications I need.

No…The government makes it hard for you to get those things. These drugs should not be so strictly scheduled to begin with. The doctor’s judgment should be the only factor in prescriptions, not a fear that he may be punished for overprescribing.

I’ve been on strong pain meds for about 4 years now. (I have RSD and an implanted spinal cord stimulator). Last week when I went to the pain clinic they did a piss test. They said it was their new policy and it would be done at every visit. They want to make sure their patients are taking their meds and not selling them. I thought it was a great idea. Keeps them out of the wrong hands.

I wouldnt personally know what its like to withdrawl from any drug, but I’ve seen many patients and it seems horrible. I’ve experimented with drugs but never got addicted. I actually used meth for about a year in high school. I never withdrew from it though, I just stopped using it.
When I said that methadone is the hardest to kick, its what I have heard from the patients at the clinic. So many times I heard that meth and heroin were cake compared to methadone and thats why so many patients are on maintenance instead of just detoxing.
I have gotten high off of vicodine. When I had my wisdom teeth pulled it hurt to eat so before dinner I’d pop two instead of one. It was a nice feeling, but not something I’d want all day everyday.

You minimize and rationalize this girls activities like it is the same as telling a lie.

Dealing drugs Messes up MANY people’s lives. They can not only overdose but those who do not overdose will battle this addiction for Many many years to come. Oxys and other Opiates are not drugs that one walks away from without physical pain discomfort and symptoms. Not to mention the mental issues of withdrawal and desire etc that comes with all addiction and drug use.

That person who is an addict has family who will spend many nights worrying about their child, sister or brother or family member. Worrying what they may be doing If they will live through the night? If they will do other illegal actions to have money to buy more etc etc.
This is FAR from a casual lie and mistake So do not come in candy coating this stuff or trying to minimize what this kid did. She is just as bad as the crack and heroin dealers in the inner cities or the High society dealers or doctors who deal to the famous. She is a drug dealer Plain and simple and frankly they leave a path of destruction behind them where ever they sell drugs.

As far as bringing God into this.
I grant you God does forgive. However God also is not going to just let folks roam through life messing up and yanking his card out their pocket when it works for them. I am so tired of people claiming they are Christian yet they continue to live their lives like they have never heard of God.
You need to make some changes in your life to acquire that place in heaven and that right to call yourself a Christian.
You can not roll over folks and do stuff all willy nilly and just keep Yelling God will forgive me while you do it.

I am not going to go on and on about being Christian here in comments cause this is not a lesson in Christian living. Nor is this the place to deal with this.

Im just saying to all of yall that if yall dont know her you have no right to talk bad about her because yall dont know who she truly is as a person. Everyone is making it sound like she has dealed drugs her whole life & that she is such a bad person…she made one bad mistake & got involved & maybe dealed for a month.. It was a mistake..but God loves & he forgives. Hunter is a great girl & I dont care what any of yall say because yall dont know her & I do.

Actually i am on Methadone and I used it years ago for addiction purposes. I take it now for pain but I agree with you totally while I think Methadone is a huge help and have seen as well as experienced the benefits of it when taken properly and when you follow the program. I have also seen a huge amount of kids jumping on and off of it trying to find a high. If only they knew methadone does NOT get you high and will if taken and done wrong kill you. However it is Not that hard to get off it if done properly. I had a friend who was on it 15 years. He just got off and done it in 3 months a slow blind detox. Worked perfect he had some sleep issues for a week but is now just fine.Personally I think it is in the clinic in the success of detox. Many put you off before either you are ready or too quicklyI do have to say again though I know Many addicts who have gotten on followed it and gotten off myself included.I was on Oxys (legally) and when the doc no longer accepted my insurance well long story shoirt I self medicated and ended up back on heroin.I decided that was not the path I wanted to stay on again and decided to try the methadone for the pain. I wouldnt personally know what its like to withdrawl from any drug, but I’ve seen many patients and it seems horrible. I’ve experimented with drugs but never got addicted. I actually used meth for about a year in high school. I never withdrew from it though, I just stopped using it.When I said that methadone is the hardest to kick, its what I have heard from the patients at the clinic. So many times I heard that meth and heroin were cake compared to methadone and thats why so many patients are on maintenance instead of just detoxing.I have gotten high off of vicodine. When I had my wisdom teeth pulled it hurt to eat so before dinner I’d pop two instead of one. It was a nice feeling, but not something I’d want all day everyday.

Hey talkischeap: personally, I’m not rabidly anti-drug. I don’t think it’s “wrong.” Nor do I think it’s “right.” I don’t even think it’s a simple question of wrong or right. It’s not a moral thing, for me.

Now, I would say that doing or selling something like meth is more likely to be “wrong” than, say, smoking pot, because meth is more likely to result in people losing their lives, making terrible decisions, neglecting their kids, and ending up as homeless hookers on the streets, but that’s not a *moral* issue. Hard drugs in general, including prescription opiates like Vicodin, are more likely to result in something bad happening (something beyond the slap on the wrist Hunter will probably get). But I don’t personally feel this is a moralistic issue, a right-or-wrong-issue. I’m pretty live and let live about such things.

So, let me clarify. I don’t really hope that she gets the book thrown at her. But I think sentencing should be fair. I think if she’s going to get a second chance, so should everyone for a first offense at selling hard drugs. I think sentencing is uneven, and I think that’s unfair. I hope she gets a second chance, but if she does, so should everyone.

It’s that she sells drugs while also being a goody-goody BMW-driving cheerleader at a school that is not only religious in nature but which costs her parents several thousand grand a year to attend. I don’t think she’s a terrible person for selling drugs, I just think she seems hypocritical and I think she seems spoiled–sounds like her parents have done a lot for her, so what did she jeopardize all that for? It’s hard to feel sympathy for someone who just throws her blessings out the window like that.

I am the one who posted about my being on methadone for addiction issues years ago and now take it for pain. I have been clean for 14 years now. I personally wish i had never done any drugs.
However I do NOT blame anyone but ME for my addiction and use. Dealers were about getting their money I never ever thought any different. I never considered them friends or buddys I seen them as one thing my pharmacist.

i would please just like to say that this isn’t the stuff they are teaching at wake. i am a student there, and am so privlidged for my parents to send me there. it isnt easy, as a matter of fact my dad has had to work overtime to actually keep me in there. i went to a public school my freshman and sophomore years… and i started attending wake my junior year. everyone who is saying.. “well if this is what they are teaching you at a christian school then…” well, the truth is that its not. its just sometimes we feel like we are just so closed in from the world we stop looking to God for answers and start looking to worldly things… Jesus Christ is my best friend and He died for me and my sins, as well as yours.. because when Adam ate the fruit from the tree he brough sin upon the world. A little side note: I had been on xanex in the past and never found anything addictive about it. Doctor gave it to me for anxiety. Not sure why anyone would bother taking it for a recreational drug, it just made me tired.

My cousin’s children attend (or attended) Episcopal High School and Woodberry Forest in Virginia, schools I believe are very similar to yours. Both are Christian-oriented though Woodberry Forest is not specifically a church-school like Episcopal.

Both have an honor code, however, that’s spanned the century and goes something like this:

“I will not lie, cheat or steal. I will report the student who does. I will conduct myself with integrity. I will report the student who doesn’t.”

The school websites for those schools say the usual penalty for an honor code violation, especially stealing or academic dishonesty, is expulsion, and there is a student panel that decides such cases. Woodberry Forest has hardly any such cases. Episcopal is a bit more diverse and has a few, but very few.

I wonder how many students at your school now have honor code problems, either that the administration will deal with or that they will have on their consciences.

If you’d really wanted to help Hunter, maybe you should have reported her for her own good. It’s easy to stand up for her now as I am sure it is trendy and soon there will be Hunter ribbons, buttons, shoelaces and hair ribbons to raise money for her defense team.

It would have taken more integrity but been less popular to turn her in earlier if, as you say, you were so concerned about her and trying to convince her to stop.

You know what… I applaud you that you understand this. Listen, I can understand wanting to defend a friend or feeling bad for a friend. It is natural human nature and we see it all the time.

Try writing it all down. Really think about it. Do you have a younger sister or brother? How would you feel if someone (even if this wasn’t her intention) started selling this stuff to them? How would you feel if that brother/sister became addicted, had an allergic reaction or even worse, accidentally died of an overdose?

You see, this goes more deep than the fact that she did something wrong. She was doing something that could have had lasting effects on someones life. She could have caused a death. I know you understand how serious this is. This is why we have laws. This is why the F.D.A classifies particular drugs. The drugs she was selling are some of the worst.

If you think about it in this way, how do you feel? How do you feel about the possibility that one of your siblings could have gotten some of this from her and died? Why, really, do you suppose this story made it to Good Morning America? Is it that GMA hates white people? Um, probably not. So, what could the reason be? Well, things that are “newsworthy” are usually things that aren’t expected–things that are extreme, or over the top, or which violate expectations in some way. So, could it be that GMA focused on this story because, since many people in this country have the expectation that most criminals are black, then a white girl doing this seems really newsworthy? YES, I think THAT’s the answer (plus the class issues I already mentioned–black people and poor people are criminals, that’s what many people think). Now, is this because the *reality* is that drug users and dealers are indeed usually black? NO. That’s not the reality, any more than the fact that black people are the majority of welfare recipients. These are common misconceptions that are tied to a deeply ingrained racism within our society. The fact that GMA focused on this story actually suggests–if anything–that GMA is racist…towards black people. Hence, they thought this was “big news.”

p.s. to Kid: I hope you’ll think about all of this, and try to really get over the racism. It’s no way to live. Especially considering the fact that because Hunter IS a rich white girl she is much more likely to get a slap on the wrist than the “poor black kid from public school” or even the poor white kid from public school. Now, I teach at an expensive private university, and I can assure you that the face of drug use on my campus is primarily both white and rich. The expectations that many people have about race and about class aren’t accurate. And in all likelihood, Hunter will benefit from being both rich and white (for one thing, the parents of a rich kid of any race can afford to hire a grade-A attorney).

I have went off and astayed clean and than had a asshole beat the shit out of me and i got on again and well long story Happy to discuss it anytime PM me on the forum. My life is a open book.

I went through pain management that ended up having me nodding and slobbering left and right So I went back to methadone. I am able to function not nod and be pretty much pain free
One addiction (oxy or Morphine) is just as bad as another (methadone) to be honest if you have a good clinic who do a slow blind dose detox you barely feel it Sadly many clinics Suck though and do it wrong.

Dang. I came in way too late in this thread to make another jab about the hairspray–especially since the real reason for the spray can has already been pointed out. Her mugshot hair was certainly spray free.

But I will say this– My mom is a hair dresser and would always make cracks about Suave. Being a stylist, she is such a spray snob–it is ALL about the high end salon spray. I am lovingly rolling my eyes as I type this. Personally, I use Dove. It works well and is relatively cheap.

oh my word people all you guys just need to do is SHUT UP because NONE of yall know what yall are talking about…I go to school with Hunter..yeah at wake CHRISTIAN academy….okay Christians mess up in this world just like everybody else does & give her a break…ohh & about the Hairspray bottle….its not a normal hair spray bottle like you would buy at the store….its one that the bottom unscrews & you can hide stuff in..theres no hairspray in it at all. I have one too…sooo how about all of yall shut up about the hairspray because you dont have a clue what you are talking about. Hunter was good girl. Yes she made a mistake..but have you ever made a mistake??…i believe so..so forgive & learn from it. God didnt make us perfect & last time i checked nobody is…ohh & have any of yall ever lied? cheated? stolen? ….okay well yes Hunter might of got involved with drugs..but a sin is a sin & they are all equal in Gods eyes. When Hunter was involved with the drugs..say someone else lied during that same time..God was just as much disappointed in Hunter with dealing with the drugs as he was with the liar. God knows we are going to mess up..but he still reaches out with loving arms & forgives. Hunter was a girl who was really looked up to. She was a Varsity Cheerleader, on homecoming court, Junior year dated a popular senior football player, & played soccer. She is one of the most funniest girls I know. She has such an amazing heart & really loves & cares for others. When you see her you never see her without a smile & she is always crazy & def knows how to make you laugh. I love Hunter & this one little mistake that she made doesnt change that. Everyone makes mistakes.
