Carol Erwin on dreamindemon.com

Murray, KY – Carol Elizabeth Erwin, 29, has self-control problems.  Anger management issues, you might say.  So perhaps she was a bad choice to care for for her boyfriend’s three-year-old son.  Last week, the boy was taken to the hospital after a social services hotline visit.  The child had multiple broken bones in various stages of healing, pelvic damage, numerous bruises and scratches, marks from being manually choked, and burns.   Anyone else wonder where Daddy was?

The little victim is one of four children in the trailer shared by Erwin and her boyfriend, whose name has not been released.  It’s not clear if any of the four children belong to Erwin.  However, other kids in the home told investigators that Carol would choke their little brother with her own two hands or use a t-shirt wrapped around the toddler’s neck.   When she got mad, the victim’s siblings say that Erwin would throw their little brother against the wall.

The Department of Social Services responded last week to a hotline report concerning the children in the home.  When they got to the trailer, they found the victim in a horrible state.  Interestingly, DSS apparently had Erwin drive the child to the emergency room for medical treatment herself, although they did call deputies and take the other children into custody.  I’m not really sure what happened there; I’d like to think they had a caseworker go with Erwin to the hospital, but details on that part are still unclear.

At the ER, sheriff’s deputies met Erwin and the victim, and interviewed physicians treating the boy.  Deputies said they saw “numerous bruises to his face and throughout the body”, along with multiple scratches and at least one burn mark. On X-ray, it turned out that the little boy had multiple fractures all over his body.  They appeared to be in various stages of healing, but virtually all the injuries appear to have happened over the last month or so.

When questioned, Carol Erwin admitted causing the injuries to the little boy.  She told deputies that she “doesn’t want to hurt him”, but that “sometimes she can’t stop herself”.

Personally, I want to know where Daddy was and why he is not being charged.  A child with multiple bruises, burns, broken bones and choke marks does not look okay.  I think the father in this case was suffering from Available Vagina Disorder – he liked having a live-in sex partner, and he was willing to allow injury to his children in order to keep her.  Also, she probably babysat for free.  Nice.

The little boy was taken to a hospital in Louisville for treatment, and DSS has taken custody of the other three siblings.  Carol Elizabeth Erwin is charged with child abuse and is being held at the Calloway County Jail pending a court hearing on Thursday.  Anyone wanna take bets on whether the victim’s father bails her out?  I got five bucks says he will, if he has the money.

So Jaded is looking for a weapon in our forums.

I cannot believe that everyday there is a new abuse article. I don’t think I live in a glass bubble but this is disgusting.

Where/who is daddy to all these children? Was he around? Did he not notice? Where are their Mother(s)? Please keep us updated on the whereabouts of the parents and this poor child. I wonder why she picked him out of the four? Maybe he was the smallest, weakest? Whatever the reason, it is sickening. All of these children need to be placed in a loving, nurturing environment where they will learn that this is NOT how you treat anyone, especially a child.

Regarding Erwin – put her in the GP and make sure everyone knows what she did to this poor child, then let them decide how to treat her.

I applaud whomever call this in – you probably just saved this child’s life.

This is disgusting.. But why only the 2 year old. Doesn’t that make you wonder that if she had anger issues it would toward all the kids??? It just strikes me as strange that is was only this little boy, unless he’s the only one who is not hers. Not that that is an excuse. she is despicable, disgusting and a worthless piece of shit.. Hope the dikes take care of her in cell block D, I’d be thowing her against the wall, again and again, and again…

Wow Carol, why didn’t you “share the love” with the other 3 kids in the home? Maybe this is the only one that wasn’t yours? Maybe the others had to go to school and people would see the abuse? Either way, you suck. Hey Dad, you let this keep happening to your little boy? You can go to hell, too.

Anyone wanna take bets on whether the victim’s father bails her out?  I got five bucks says he will, if he has the money.

I guess it might depend on the cost of a “nanny” or some hookers over time compared to bail? Nah, I think you are right!

It is very common for an abuser to single out one child amongst several…the reasons vary greatly but what is clear is that all abusers are bastards…yeah and she does SUCK.
I hope you get your ugly as beat daily in jail….stupid bitch…

In many cases, it is jealousy. Maybe that child in particular was was precious to the father as well as the other children. Maybe the child is frail and some bitches like her like to prey on the weak. Hope she burns!!

Please don’t categorize/stereotype all who live in Mobile Homes. She would have been just as much a piece of shit had she lived in an apartment, a house, a mansion or been homeless.

Um…I’m a 20 year old, single mother that owns her own…..*GASP* mobile home. I do not beat my child, choke her, starve her, or treat her badly in any way….and my home is very clean. I resent the fact that you believe that of “mobile home dwellers”. The trailer doesn’t make the trash….more than likely it was trash before it moved in. (If that makes sense)
Sorry for venting, I just don’t believe all people that reside in mobile homes are trash, and it offends me when people make comments like that.

If you’re going to hang out at the Demon, you probably need to grow a little thicker skin. I’m not going to explain the “trailer trash” stereotype to you, as I’m sure you’re well aware of it. And I sure as hell am not going to apologize, having grown up in an area of south Louisiana in which pretty much everyone lives in mobile homes (including my family). If you followed the Demon daily and as closely as I do, you’d know that we’ve had a run of perps who live in trailers. I live in a mobile home and I am MORE than aware of the stereotype, due to my neighbors. And let me just state that stereotypes began for a REASON. Just like Florida houses an unnerving number of child beaters and molesters.

I live in Louisville and stories like these make me sick. A two year old just died after being beaten by his parents, and I heard another story of a two year old on life support. I have a son who is disabled and one of the times we were in the ICU there were several children who had been abused on the unit. A seven month old baby had been slammed up against the wall for crying during a basketball game, and the dad got pissed. I’m just glad this little guy was found in time. I hope this woman and all the other child abusers rot in hell!

At least in Texas…I’m sure, with the recent Graves ruling, other states have or soon will be adopting the same law:
CPS cannot transport a child unless they have taken custody of the child under a court order signed by a judge. This is due to the courts ruling that transporting a child is tantamount to seizing the child, so it is a violation of the parent’s, and the child’s, 4th Amendment rights if done without a court order.
There are loopholes in this, of course, for exigent circumstances, but it’s complicated.
Long and short, you can get the kid to the hospital a lot faster by having the parent transport the child there, with CPS either in the car with them or following right behind their car. Getting a court order takes an hour or so.

Or maybe he was more demanding of time, attention, and/or supervision. If he was the youngest, I can see where that could be the case. At that age, they are into everything, demand a lot of attention, and tend to be defiant. My guess is this waste of a perfectly good vagina couldn’t handle even one of those behaviors, so much as all of them.

Oh, yeah. I’ve been that poor CPS worker…LOL. It’s a stupid ruling, and I pray it will soon be overturned, before a lot of children end up dead due to the courts desire to protect the “rights” of the parents.
I firmly believe in the 4th Amendment, don’t get me wrong. I agree that parents should have rights in regards to their children. But..even more…I believe CHILDREN should have rights. Particularly the right to NOT be abused, and the right to have CPS step in and protect them when their parents will not. ARGH!
Sorry. Off my soapbox now :)

What was going on with the PELVIC DAMAGE? I’ve never heard of a case in which it wasn’t attributable to SEXUAL abuse, i.e., penetration by penis or other object.

Something very interesting to me about this thread: in many cases, the man is the abuser (ususally we refer to him as “the penis,” as in “put down the penis), and then many of us spend a lot of time talking about how the mother is to blame for exposing her child to The Penis. Why aren’t we thus blaming the father for his negligence in this case???? Hmm.

To Zibarro and Dasiasproudmommy: you’re right that living in a trailer has nothing to do with it, and the classist comments are unfortunate. At the same time, it is a fact that people who are economically disenfanchised, as some who live in trailers indeed are, typically have greater stressors than the wealthy and they certainly have fewer resources all around to supplement their parenting.

Torture and serious physical injury. Those are the words investigators are using to describe how a local couple treated children living in their home.

A Calloway County grand jury indicted Carol Erwin and Derek Chandler on multiple charges, Monday afternoon. Some charges include causing serious physical injury, torture, and cruel confinement to a person 12 years of age or younger.

Erwin is being held on a 50-thousand dollar bond. Chandler is in jail on a 35-thousand dollar bond.

MURRAY, KY – Multiple child abuse charges against a local couple. Carol Erwin and Derek Chandler of Murray are both being charged with assault, criminal abuse and intimidating a participant in a legal process.

The indictment accuses the couple of inflicting or permitting serious physical injury, torture or cruel confinement of children under 12 years old.

Erwin and Chandler are also accused of threatening other children to keep them from reporting the abuse.

In September, Erwin told police she didn’t want to hurt the boy but sometimes she “can’t stop herself.”

Erwin was arrested after police received an anonymous tip of child abuse at her Murray, Kentucky, home. The alleged victim was the three-year-old son of her boyfriend, Derek Chandler. The boy was one of four children living in the home, now those kids are in the care of the state. he two will be in court this Wednesday.

The case is now in the hands of Attorney General Jack Conway, who released a statement today saying “the investigation and prosecution of crimes involving children is a top priority for my office. I am pleased that this office was able to offer assistance to local law enforcement in such a serious case.”
