Timothy Gilley Beats Up Children

Tampa, FL – Timothy Joseph Gilley, 21, has a hot temper, a short fuse, and two children in his house. One is his two year old stepdaughter; the other is his wife, the former Hope Rhodes, who is now all of sixteen years old. Yes, you heard me. They got married in May and already he’s trying to strangle Hope and beat up the baby.  Now that’s love, right there.
Apparently in Florida it is legal for a man under 24 to marry a girl when she is sixteen. Now, it’s unclear whether he is the father of Hope’s toddler, but he is listed in court documents as the child’s stepfather.  Meaning that somewhere in this Springer episode of trailer trash, Hope Rhodes got knocked up at thirteen. As far as I’m concerned, unless the father was underage as well, that makes Hope a double victim.
Now, Hope did not give her baby up for adoption, as would have been accepted and expected by many people. No, she chose to keep her baby. And it appears that despite her youth and her youth-influenced poor taste in men, she’s a pretty good mother.
On Wednesday, though, Hope fell asleep, and Hope’s little girl got into the bathroom. The baby got into the Q-tips and the powder and she just went to town all over the house. At about which time Timothy Gilley got home, saw the mess, and got thoroughly pissed off.  Hope awoke to her husband beating the hell out of her daughter, spanking the child violently on her bare buttocks and back.
Hope had the good sense to fly out of bed and into her husband in order to get him off her child. It worked, but only momentarily. Gilley grabbed his teenage bride by her hair, dragged her into their bedroom, and locked the door. He then went back to beating the baby, so Hope managed to escape from the bedroom and intervene again.
At that point, Gilley went ballistic on his wife, repeatedly slapping and hitting her. Finally, he topped it off with a little manual strangulation, choking Hope until she couldn’t swallow or breathe. Just as her world started to go dark, Timothy Gilley threw her back into her room and locked the door – better this time. Hope couldn’t get out. He also took her cell phone and her car keys so she could not leave or call for help.
Gilley seemed calmer on Thursday, and let Hope leave to go to night schol, where she is working on her GED. When she left, though, instead of going to school, Hope went to a friend’s house and called the police. No word on where Hope’s daughter was during that time, but it seems likely that Hope did whatever she normally did that night, hoping not to alarm her abusive husband.
Police put out a warrant for Gilley that evening. At about 1:40 on FridayFriday reviews
morning, he was pulled over driving 25 miles an hour over the speed limit. When he was pulled over, Gilley was arrested on charges of domestic violence, child abuse, tampering with a witness, false imprisonment, and domestic battery by strangulation. Gilley had bond set at $4000, but it was quickly rescinded once he was charged with violating his probation on various burglary and grand theft charges. Turns out that at age 21, Gilley has 26 criminal charges in his history.
Timothy Gilley is being held at the Hillsborough County Jail. Here’s hoping Hope Gilley shows the same good sense she showed in calling police. She needs to take her baby and get the hell out of there, because once Timothy Gilley gets out, neither she or her child will be safe.

Okay – Here is a young mother that we can aplaude! She may be young, she me even be Springerish – But she had his dumbass locked up to save her child! Can someone PLEASE have Hope message Blaise’s mother on Myspace… Maybe even Casey Anthony???
BTW – that is a pretty sweet HItler stash he’s got goin’ there. Is that what her attraction to him was?? I can’t imagine it was his winning personality.

Unbelieveable. As young as she was, at least she had the sense to pretend to go to school and was smart enough to call the police. I hope she has learned her lesson, stays in school, forgets about dating for a while and makes better choices in the future. In MA and some other states, in order to marry a minor, the parents of the minor have to sign over guardianship. Is this the case in FL? I knew someone up here who married a minor and even after they divorced, because she was still under 18, he was her legal guardian. Scary thought in this case if the laws are the same.

Fact….if a man attempts….even once…to manual strangle a women…..statistics say….he WILL eventually kill her…….somehow the move from strangulation to death is so slight for an abuser….
That said….I am amazed at the resilance and thought process of this child….adult women find difficulty in intervening….yet this child intervened, fought and displayed courage far beyond the norm…..
I would guess she has been on the receiving end of a fist, probably her whole life……yet somewhere….someone showed her something…educated her….therapy maybe…..I just know that whomever assisted her before is still around, and assists her again…….
I applaude her actions…..but without a support system….someone….or a stable domestic violence shelter……she is facing phenomenal odds……I suppose he payed the bills…..(so possibly no home…no way to pay the bills….) he watched the baby while she went to school (no sitter). hell even the gas to get to the state agency for food stamps will be out of her reach…….
I spent three years in intensive domestic violence therepy (after the fact)….a favorite saying of my dear therepist was “Fake it till you make it”…..(till you can escape). This child displayed tremendous courage…..
This youngster is standing at the crossroads of her entire future….I hope someone steps up to help her….stand up…….cause with the courage of a lion in her heart…….she has the potential to be a outstanding woman.

She hasn’t logged into that myspace since February, so here’s hoping some of that dopey d0-anything-for-my-man crap has worn off. At that point she was living with her friend and friend’s family, so I’m guessing she lacks any meaningful family support. Someone who’s married and has 2 kids at 16 is usually someone without a good homelife, more like a homelife they’d do anything to flee, so I can’t see there’d be much for her to fallback on here, aside from the friend she previously lived with. Who knows how long that girl’s parents want to support this other girl and her 2 kids though, ya know? I hope she can be pointed in the direction of useful resources, but her future isn’t looking that great from where I’m sitting. She was tough enough to try to beat off her man from her baby, let’s hope she’s tough enough to stay away from him and carve out a decent life for her and the kids, because it’s a tough road, straight uphill.

I too pray it is over for good and she stays away. She can do it without the support of a family though they would make is easier. She has a Aunt in Upstate NY from what I read on the Guest Book thing Maybe she can offer some support and help.
Wherever she goes there are loads of shelters and support for woman trying to get away and stay away from a abusive ex.
She can do it if she stays strong. I pray she has the determination since she has no real family support.

Hard for me to believe that he wouldn’t be court ordered to stay away from that child (either child for that matter) but especially the baby!! She’s not his child – hence he has no legal right to see her! If this woman/child lets him back into their lives…she deserves to lose her child/children for good!

That’s a different myspace, and while it has recent activity, I’m not sure if that 10day thing is current. She left comments on his pics back in Feb missing him and wishing he were home, which is when things seem to have switched over to that back in the 352 myspace ( http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=104684010 ). So let’s hope that’s not relevant to her situation now. But it doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility.

They can probably order that, but unless Hope enforces it herself by not allowing him back into her life there’s not much they can do. It’s not like you could have 24 hour survelliance on all domestic violence victims unfortunately. We don’t have enough police officers……
Let’s just hope that she’s done and can stay strong willed!!!!

I agree Grandma. Finally someone putting their child first (not staying with the jackass) and so far a good ending. I mean they got hurt, but it’s better than death and torture. Here’s to hoping he won’t be hurting either of them again ever!!!

Thankful that he didn’t kill or hospitalize either of the kids, Hope should be able to get the resources from the county or state. Once you are married I am pretty sure that makes you emancipated.
She should be able to collect child support from the biological dad and most likely alimony from Timothy as long as he is working and living outside of the jail.
I am glad to see Hope is trying to finish school and make something of her life… I believe she has a sense of humour and believe she has the patiences a good mom needs when a toddler gets into the vaseline and can smile. Way to go We here at DD are proud of you for defending your child and choosing to protect them – then sacifice what you have to turn the creep in to the LE.
I bet the real father wants to kick some ass right now !

Even if she took or went back to Timothy which ever the case may be. That would be a tough ordeal to forgive and forget. I am sure there would be love losted in both cases. her calling the police and him locking her in the room and beating her child. When I left my final words were “If that is what love is I don’t want it”

1) This is a good story for people to read who think spanking is okay. Hope is smarter than all of them–she knew it was not okay.
2) On the other hand, Hope is also the girl who got pregnant at 13 by some child molester or other, and didn’t have any adult around her who was responsible enough to advise her not to have children until she had the resources (in all senses) to care for them properly.
What an effed-up story this is. Good luck to Hope and these children. I hope she uses birth control for the remainder of her “childhood” and finishes the damn GED.

this girl was one of the few ive seen on here that is a very brave & smart woman. she did wat she had to do even if she hated playing mary fuckin sunshine to get help and get away to get to safety but im sure she had her child right there with her. she was willing to die for her child and thats how every parent should be.
