, September 12 – but it took almost two weeks for his mother and her boyfriend to kill him. The one-year-old’s slow death was probably caused by sepsis or internal trauma. After a Labor Day beating, J.B.’s arm was broken and his tongue was split nearly in two.  Kimberly Helmes, 21, and Kyle Cooper, 25, decided not to take J.B. to the hospital.  Instead, they tried to stitch his tongue back together with a needle and thread.Â
I don’t know what in the hell Kimberly Helmes was thinking. There she was, 21 years old with a two year old and one year old J.B., whose full name has not been released.  Kyle Cooper is not her babydaddy – I don’t know who is, or where he is. In what universe did Helmes think Cooper was gonna be a good subsitute? He’s on parole, he has a laundry list of drug convictions and dumbass petty crimes, he lived with his parents. It’s like she took every single rule of Imp’s Put Down The Penis And Walk Away Seminar and went, “Nah, I don’t need a man with a job and good sense to take care of me and my babies. We’ll just move in with my new boyfriend Kyle and his parents, because I loooovvvvvve him!”

Worse, she’s one of those evil bitches who would rather lie to protect her penis than tell the truth to protect her children. As far back as May, Missouri Department of Family Services took both Helmes’ children away because of “excessive bruising” on the two year old. Four days later, in part because Helmes lied like a bitch, the children were returned to her care. Investigators now believe that Cooper was continually abusing both Helmes’ children.
Labor Day weekend was when things got fatal for baby J.B. I’m not sure how Kyle Cooper managed to hit the child so hard that his tongue split in half vertically, but he did. Cooper also broke J.B.’s arm. And for over a week after that beating, nobody in that house got help for that baby. Nobody. Not Kyle Cooper, who said he “didn’t have a car”. Not J.B.’s mother Kimberly Helmes, who said she was “afraid the babies would be taken away again”. (Um, yathink?) And not Kyle Cooper’s parents, who live in the home.  What the hell?
Helmes, remember, is an idiot. So it wasn’t until her son had been dead for about FIVE HOURS that she called for help for the boy, saying he wasn’t breathing. Um, yeah. A little rigor mortis and postmortem lividity very often means it’s too late for a code blue, you stupid cow.
And then, Cooper and Helmes were all surprised when police asked them about the thread hanging off her dead baby’s tongue. Oh, that, they said. Emergency room care was just out of the question, they said. Sure, the baby had been “cranky” and “not wanting to eat” for a week. Sure, his tongue was all puffy and white from infection. And yeah, now that they thought about it, his arm did seem to hang kinda funny.
At this point, officers exercised phenomenal restraint. Rather than lining Cooper and Helmes against a wall and shooting them with beanbags until they bit through their tongues and their arms broke, investigators chose to arrest the pair instead.
Both Kyle Cooper and Kimberly Helmes have been charged with second degree murder and felony child endangerment. They are being held at the Jackson County Jail in lieu of $500,000 cash bond – each. Helmes’ surviving child was taken to the hospital and released into the custody of Missouri DFS. Here’s hoping they do a better job this time.

Hopefully this will actually violate whatever parole he is on and provide a MUCH longer stay this time to keep this asswad off the street.

Court-ordered sterilization should be part of both their sentences. Hell, if your I.Q. falls below a certain level, reproduction should be illegal. And no, I’m not taking on the reproduction rights of the mentally challenged. I just believe that if you’re stupid enough to call 911 5 hours after your child is dead, then all your baby-makin’ parts should be ripped violently out of your body. I volunteer to perform the operation.

For many years I have said and fully believe that people that mistreat their children and continue to have children for more welfare need to be forced to have their tubes tied or their hole sowen shut! This makes me so sick and so sad…I have a son that is 20 months old and I can’t even imagine harming him. Yes, children are a lot of work but it is what I chose to do…apparently this BITCH has NO clue what life is all about. I hope they throw them both in the slammer, or wait, does their state have the death penalty? I know it sounds harsh but that is what JB had, a death sentence at that hands of his mother and her so called boyfriend! What is this world coming to….and has anyone noticed that a lot of these types of crimes seem to happen in Florida….not to say other states don’t have their share, but it seems to be mostly Florida…something in the water there?

And what in hell was the parents who were living there not aware that this child was crying as if in pain?? I mean he had to be really crying with a infected tongue. Why did they not pay any attention. Oh wait though these are the Same parents who raised this whack job So well maybe there is something in that family tree hiding After all we know how the abuse tends to cycle. Maybe they were aware and felt that it was OK.

This is my first time making a comment on this site but I can’t believe these children where in the custody of DCF and were returned to this crack whore!!!!! I think they should go thru the same fate as that little boy. Lets break their bones and split there tongue and let them slowly die. These types of news articles aren’t just stories. They happen in rampant numbers that today’s media can’t even fathom keeping up with. The only ones they seem to spotlight at 5,6, and 11 are the ones that attract the most public interest or seem to be the most heinous, hence the numbing effect of violence on a large part of society today.
PS: The drink is lots cheaper than therapy- Just don’t pass out or kill any small children while you do it or you could be the next headline here on the DD!

I just read about this in my local newspaper and had to do a google search and of course DD has the scoop. WTF were these two fucktards thinking? Especially, especially the damn mother. That poor baby. My son is 3 years old and I clean his nose out with q-tips when it gets bad…he screams and kicks and pushes my hands away b/c he doesn’t like the feeling of q-tips in his nose….could you imagine what they had to do to STITCH that poor baby’s tongue? What the hell was going on in their heads? Dude, I am so going to become a criminal psychologist for this very reason. Oh and for the other reason of wanting to beat the living crap out of people like these two. Do you think I could put that on my resume?

This one really got to me being I have a 1yr. old myself and he is the light of day to me.
Reading what little J.B went through is heinous and sick. These two absolutely need to be tortured on a daily basis until they die. Preferably with broken arms, internal bleeding and a severed tongue. They are so vile I can smell their stench through the very reading of the atrocities they performed on this poor baby.! I’m thinking when they tried to sew this poor babies tongue up his arm was broken when restrained…of *F* I want them dead…I want them to STOP breathing our air!
What really bothers me is as we read and post our comments about little J.B there is another helpless child out there at this very moment being tortured and will likely end up dead too…so many innocents so many fucktards…
Kimberly and Kyle, may your remaining days be withered with pain and misery.

My kids are pretty much grown now but…if they hurt,physically or emotionally, I hurt. So I just don’t understand these people that we read about everyday inflicting both kinds of pain on their kids…I just don’t.
And seriously, Coopers parents didn’t notice anything wrong at all, leading up to this and then while the baby was dying a slow and painful death? Unless there’s damn good reason for that, and I can’t imagine one, I hope they’re charged as accessories too.

When my younger daughter was about 20 months old, she climbed up on a kitchen chair, it tipped, and she fell off face first. She bit all the way through her tongue. She didn’t split it, as in this story, but rather her front teeth went right through it top to bottom right in the center. Let me tell you, there was a lot of blood. A. lot. of. blood. She vomited blood later that evening, and her stool was dark from the blood the next day. It was pretty gory, though the injury sounds far less grievous than this baby suffered.
Not only did we take her to the ER, but we let the ambulance do it, as she was in so much pain, and there was so much blood that we felt it was safer than us trying to keep her contained while we drove her.
Poor thing had a very hard time eating for about a week, and we worried over her the whole time. Today, she has a wicked cool scar on her tongue that she can tell stories about to her friends some day.
But having been through that, I cannot imagine how you could try to “treat” a tongue injury like that at home. Fucking neanderthals, the lot of them.

I can oly imagine how they got that child to hold still and allow them to drive a needle through it enough times to stitch it. I can’t believe a mother could let something like this happen to her child and just be ok with it. I just don’t get it.

I’m always deeply saddened and touched by children suffering and this one year old really suffered those last two weeks. I used to be angry and just want to kill kill kill. These posts don’t matter, the police NOT killing someone who deserves it, don’t matter, the trials to come, don’t matter. (I mean it doesn’t matter for this child, it may help another child) I am not so hopeful. I believe life is NOT a gift for everyone and for all those who suffered and died, are they resting in peace when this hell is all their conscious took with them, pain and hate. For those who believe in reincarnation and “remembering” who you are, what do these babies remember? They don’t know love or peace. They die alone and life just goes on as usual, and that my friends is why I am so so sad for this child. We cannot do not one thing to give him true justice, (Justice is supposed to be swift and sweet, not consequently-this is what happened next as a result –the penalties handed down are NEVER good enough) we don’t have another chance to show him love or peace, not in this body that he maintained. He suffered horribly and he is gone in this life time……That is it and that is always it with these cases. Something that weighs heavily on my heart.

I can honestly say that this has been the only story that I have read on DD, that has physically made me sick!!

I’m new to the site and I don’t know where to start with this. I cam e across the site because I was looking for information on Cooper’s parents and what has been done about them.
Unfortunately, I live across the street from these thugs. I have had my own run ins with Kyle (POS) Cooper. He and his skank girlfriend purposely fired fireworks into my house.
I want to know about the parents and whether charges have been files against them. Living across the street, I never even knew there were kiddos living in that house. According to one officer, who was watching the house after the ultimate crime, the kids were locked in the closet almost 24 hours a day. You mean to tell me that the POS parents did not know what was going on? I know POS’s mother moved out right about Labor Day (she was probably running before she knew what was going to happen, happened). The old POS man is back in the house and going on like nothing ever happened! It makes me sick. Why aren’t they being charged as accomplices or obstruction?
The old man will never feel welcome in the neighborhood, again.

I’m new to DD, but unfortunetly I’m very familiar with this case. I used to be engaged to Kyle Cooper about 5 years ago. He was abusive to me through out the majority of our relationship but one day he beat me so bad I ended up in the hospital and that’s where I drew the line and ended things. I now have a beautiful 3 year old daughter and I can’t imagine letting somebody do to her what had been done to me before. I hope that they both burn in hell for what they put that poor baby through. I also hope that while their sitting in prison that they get beaten the same way that those boys got beaten.
