William Ellis Possessed A WMD

William Holden Ellis at dreamindemon.com

Madison, NC – Friday night, Rockingham County sheriff’s deputies were called to the home shared by William Holden Ellis, 19, Kathy Owens Robinson, 41, and their 11-month-old child.  (Yeah, I caught that, too. Robinson is old enough to be Ellis’s mother. At least he’s legal.)

The call came after Ellis assaulted and threatened to kill Robinson.  As Robinson told police, Ellis became upset–over what, we do not know–and hit her. He strangled her. He also bit her numerous times on her hand, back, and chest. He then put a .22-caliber pistol to her head, said he was going to kill her, and pulled the trigger.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say the pistol was not loaded, as there are no reports of Robinson walking around displaying brain matter. At some point during Ellis’s attack on Robinson, the baby sustained a bruise on one arm. Robinson managed to calm Ellis and escape the house, after which she called for help.

By my reckoning, the cops in Rockingham County don’t play around. They don’t merely “charge” someone. And they don’t just “throw the book” at a criminal, either. Instead, they roll that fucking book into a cylinder and shove it so far up his ass that a careful reader can decipher criminal code in the whites of his eyes. Check it: Ellis is being charged with (1) first-degree kidnapping, (2) assault by strangulation, (3) assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, (4) assault by pointing a gun, (5) assault on a child, (6) inflicting serious injury with minor present, (7) false imprisonment, (8) simple assault, (9) communicating threats, (10) consuming beer or wine underage, (11) possession of paraphernalia, and (12) possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

Wait, what?

Yeah, that was my response. “‘Possession of a weapon of mass destruction’? He, what, had an atomic bomb seeded with Ebola hidden in a passenger jet in his back yard?”

Thank you, Billy-Boy, for precipitating my foray into the minutiae surrounding the definition of “weapons of mass destruction.” For the most part, “WMD” refers to nuclear, biological, or chemical weapons capable of destroying a large number of people. (Over in the forums, Kitty suggested the WMD is Ellis’s face.) My research left me still scratching my head and thinking maybe the Rockingham County guys were reaching a little on this one. One news report describes an interaction between Ellis and Robinson’s boss, who gave Robinson a ride home after work. Once they arrived there, Ellis showed a sawed-off shotgun, barricaded the door, and wouldn’t let the boss leave. (At some point, Ellis became “distracted,” allowing the man to escape.) Can a sawed-off shotgun be seen as a WMD?

Whatever the case may be, you can take off your gas mask and get the kids out of the bomb shelter, and Robinson and her baby can rest easy for the moment–Ellis is being held on $155,000 bond.

Methamphetamine can be considered a weapon of mass destruction in some states, because of the toxic fumes. My guess is that is what the charge is actually about…possession of meth. – Morbid

Which one? The NC law or federal law? Not that it matters. Like you said early on, the law is vague. Odds are, this usage doesn’t exactly fall in line with the spirit of the law, or even the spirit of the term.

Athena!, I hadn't logged on for awhile. Good to see you.

I did a little reading and found that if one modifies a shot-gun in certian ways it can be labled as a weapon of mass destuction. I'm going to bet it was sawed off if that was the case. See the thing is ther is no narcotic charge, just paraphernalia. So, I'm thinking they might charge both but why forgo a simple conviction to choose a WMD charge whilst class d narcotics and guns equal a life sentance in most southern states.... just saying.
  • Athena
Well, if you read the law, meth definitely falls into the category of a WMD.

WMU - weapons of massive ugliness.
  • Meth as a WMD. Huh. That’s a lot of bullshit…Unless it’s being manufactured, as some have suggested.

No doubt, no doubt! But considering how our government has thrown around and outrightly misapplied the term "WMD," it's not surprising. Hey, maybe we should have justified the Iraqi invasion by claiming they had a few meth labs--since it's clear that there never were any "real" WMDs...

The meth does speak to this kid's manic behavior, though. Hopefully, he gets some help while in jail, since he'll eventually be released. Meth users do irreparable damage to their souls (and often, their bodies), but they're not entirely lost, generally.

Guys this ugly should be grateful that any woman will have sex with them and not be assaulting her with weapons. After all, he has a very long life of being an ugly guy ahead of him. He may never find another woman. And he's at his sexual peak at 19. Just plain bad thinking on his part.

How is it you did not refer to her as Mrs. Robinson in this article?

LOL! I totally missed it! I just gave myself the V-8 slap to the head!

Robinson is old enough to be Ellis’s mother.

Meth is really bad mojo man.

the fumes from smoking meth in a multi family house with shared ventilation can be toxic to all inhabitants, esp young, old, or ill. The smoke can settle on the walls, and it takes 1-2 coats of Killz (meth residue is not water-soluable) and then several coats of paint for it not to seep thru. Technically, if a child goes to school from a meth lab house, the school should send home a note to the other parents stating that their child was exposed to a toxic substance (namely, little mary).

the environmental ramifications of meth use are only just being discovered. classifying them as wmd is probably a step in either making charges stick or recouping costs

Most doctors would shy away from desoxyephedrine due to the highly addictive nature.

And from what I gather most do. However, having known people who "self-medicate" with the street version for lack of health insurance/money for doctors - I can tell you that there are those who use that AREN'T tweekers. Like peeps I know who smoke weed in lieu of anti-anxiety meds. But they are very rare. This case seem to NOT be of the "self-medicating" variety.

Damn Lizard, you hit the ball out of the park with this one! And I say "yay Le" they gave him the smack down!

Oh and I agree with Kitty!

I still think that’s major overkill UNLESS you’re manufacturing. I’m guessing they got extra gov’t dollars for putting that into effect. So, is Desoxyn allowed to be prescribed there? Hmmmmm……

Making crank in the bathtub is a little diffrent than manufacturing a pharmaceutical grade drug in a controled safe enviroment. Just like buying it from a street dealer and smoking it are diffrent that taking it via a tablet twice a day under the care of a licensed Doctor. Most doctors would shy away from desoxyephedrine due to the highly addictive nature.

Nope. This is just prosecutors using a vague law for a use it may not have been intended...or at least, foreseen. There is controversy over it, of course, but in areas that are being ravaged by meth addiction...well, fuck it.

In North Carolina, meth is considered a weapon of mass destruction. Authorities can invoke the Patriot Act under the state’s Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Weapons Act if they feel like it. Looks as if these guys felt like it. :)

Wow - does Texas know about this? 'Cause this is something I can see them doing as well.

Yet another way meth can ruin your life, it makes you a terrorist.
  • Yeah, but wouldn’t the “toxic fumes” be in regard to manufacturing and not smoking? And I only see a charge of possession of paraphernalia, which is usually pipes, syringes, etc. - things used to imbibe with.

Either way, I'm not sure this is a good thing. Even though he may be a "bad guy", when laws are taken out of context to prosecute it sets a bad precedent and can (and usually does) open up a door to take away more of our civil rights. Remember, law enforcement IS fallible and does make mistakes.
