But now that you've explained it, it makes more sense. To me, a child molestor isn't necessarily a pedophile, since a child is a legal child until the age of eighteen in most states. That's why I was confused.

Yes, middle schoolers could be as young as 6th grade. But this guy was a high school teacher, was he not? And he was propositioning high school aged girls, as far as he knew? As far as your statement about opportunity, I'd be interested to see how easily that line can be crossed. That said, middle school students are as young as sixth grade (fifth in my community) and many of them do hang out on the teen chat sites. "Any young girls for a hot older man" doesn't necessarily mean "any girls in ninth grade or older."

A pedophile is someone who is attracted to prepubescent children. Simply liking 'em young isn't enough. It's all about how young.

I've encountered my fair share of pervy teachers. When I was a freshman in high school, my teacher made MULTIPLE inappropriate comments to me. One time when my friend and I were giggling over a condom she had in her purse, he walked up and asked, "Do you want me to try that on?" Then he got horrified with what he said and begged us not to tell anyone he'd said it. You know, at the time I knew it was creepy but for whatever reason I didn't care, so I didn't say anything to anyone. Guess who got A's in that class without doing any of the work? Yeah.
