Melissa Nichols Changed Lanes

Placerville, CA - At first, it just looked like a terrible accident. On Thursday night, Melissa Nicole Nichols, 23, hit her boyfriend’s motorcycle in a bizarre collision.  Anthony James Payne was driving towards Nichols’ car when she veered into his lane and struck him head-on. Payne, 23, was thrown about 200 feet and died at the scene.  Nichols was kinda drunk, and it appeared that she’d just drifted into his lane. All the way into his lane.  You see where this one’s going already, don’t you?
Melissa Nichols suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital overnight. On Friday she was released from the hospital and was booked into the El Dorado County Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and drunken driving resulting in bodily injury. The whole thing initially looked like a horrible, fatal mistake.
Until police started talking to witnesses.  At least one person put Melissa and Anthony near an intersection where there were, apparently, words exchanged. After the discussion the couple left on two different roads, but at some point Anthony Payne made a turn and ended up heading back toward Melissa’s car. When Anthony’s motorcycle was within range of Melissa’s car, she drove into his lane and hit her boyfriend head-on, killing him. One witness was with Nichols at the time of the crash, and police gathered enough evidence from that witness and others to pursue a murder charge.
Melissa Nicole Nichols is now being held in the El Dorado County Jail on suspicion of homicide.

Ok Lauren, maybe you’re right, I can see where I may have jumped the gun on a few things. I had a really bad day after losing it on some illiterate tard in another thread, who was defending a child abuser, and my anger just carried over into this one.
Spend some time looking around at all the horror stories here at Dreamin’ Demon and I think you’ll understand a little better. After all the shit these people have heard and/or seen, sometimes you just have to find the humor amongst the horror, however possible.
I admit, I probably WAS wrong about this. I reacted before looking up the info again and just went on what I thought I remembered reading.
This, I truly apologize for. I don’t care for people who automatically turn on me either, just because of a difference in opinion. I grew up to be a non-Christian raised by a bunch of Mormons, so I know how it feels (completely irrelevant, but just to make my point).
I’m glad to hear you acknowledge that Melissa is not completely innocent. I think our difference in opinion rests with question of whether this was an intentional act.
You have to admit how bad it looks, though. Authorities supposedly have witnesses stating they heard Melissa and Anthony arguing just moments before the crash. She was somehow able to maintain control of the vehicle up to that point, so why Anthony, her ex-boyfriend?
I don’t wish death upon ANY person, but why didn’t she run off the road and hit some random person before or after she came upon Anthony? It just seems too convenient, for lack of a better word.

While I agree, her crime is not the caliber of baby killers, it is a crime. Drunk driving is a crime. Killing someone while drunk driving is a bigger crime. Your friend is a criminal. So is her hair.
Lauren, people talk about people it is human nature. Get over it! Your friend put herself in the news by making poor choices. This makes her a candidate for speculation. Killing some one because you chose to get trashed and get behind a wheel IS murder. Only difference is that the murder weapon is much much larger.
And I agree she should get extra time for the crime that is her eyebrows. They should keep her in there until they grow back and sentence her to mandatory eyebrow grooming classes.

Was just pointing out that that’s what we do. Because she’s your friend doesn’t mean we should stop. You accused us of making comments based on suspicion. That is what what she was arrested for - suspicion of homicide. Seems valid to me.
You can defend her character all you want, doesn’t change things. By driving drunk she was deliberately criminal, selfish, stupid, classless, insensitive, egotistical, disrespectful, and irresponsible. These are not traits I would want in anyone I claimed as a friend.

The thing that makes her look guilty is the fact that she had words with him at an intersection right befor the wreck. To veer out of your lane just at that exact second it would take to kill him seems a little suspicious. you are closer to this story so if the media is giving false information set us straight.
No and it is not even a fact that it was an argument actually. No the road is a straight away… two lanes. I used to live on that road when I was younger. They didn’t keep encountering eachother. After going one way he decided to turn around on his bike and head back in the direction he initially came from….how would she know he was going to turn around even? Anyways nobody want’s to talk about how he was driving drunk also…..or what a coincidence it is that he died on the same day….same month that his father died years ago…..hmmmmm.
P.S. she has never been previously convicted or tried for anything not even a single speeding ticket. On the other hand he was a noted criminal…rehab…jail…shit he was on parole even….

Oh gosh here we go again……I’m not saying it is ok. I’m just saying/stating other facts that will come in to play…he was also speeding….and he was on and of with that other girl and hardly believe there relationship was that serious…it’s easy to put a ring on somebodys finger….and pull em buy a string if you will……i highly doubt there were solid future plans there and thats just my opionion of a guy who has a “fiance” breaks up with her and immediatley starts dating someone else…….my opinion…..p.s. he was also speeding 80-100 from what I hear…..wow pretty fast.
