Parkland, WA - Michael Warner wasn’t an old man at 55, but he was a very sick man, wheelchair bound in his final days with cancer, hoping to die at home with a little dignity. Frail, he scarcely weighed 100 pounds and was unable to care for himself in any fashion. Yvonne Bell lived with her father, along with her lover and his “unofficial†caregiver, Jennifer Markwith. They gave him little care and police suspect the couple were helping themselves to his pain meds.
Jennifer Markwith had dogs, lots and lots of dogs. So far the count is at twenty-seven, eighteen are puppies. A puppy mill perhaps? The puppies were kept inside the house. Some of the older dogs were allowed to run free, becoming the scourge of the neighborhood, attacking people and other pets. Calls were made to the sheriff’s office and Animal Control in the past. Nothing was done. I’m sure that Warner didn’t have much say in his life by this time, totally dependent on the whims of his non-caregivers. To call that pair caregivers would be a farce.
Giving little or no care, Bell and her girlfriend would just take off together when and where they pleased. It wasn’t even the first time they had left him alone unable to care for himself. Neighbors say that in the past, Warner had stumbled to into their yard before looking for help. This time it was different. Bell and Markwith left him home alone, trapped with over two dozen starving dogs. This time he couldn’t go to his neighbors for help.
Michael Warner was left alone for days in his feces covered house with eighteen puppies and several grown dogs. Surely Yvonne and Jennifer didn’t expect him to care for them. The dying man couldn’t even fend for himself. The animals hadn’t been fed for days and were starving. They had been abandoned along with Warner, trapped in a hell hole. Somehow Warner ended up on the floor, unable to defend himself or call for help as the puppies began to feed from his ravaged body.
When the selfish pair of non-caregivers finally got around to returning home, they found Warner bloodied, barely clinging to life. He is now in critical condition and being kept alive by machines. Bell and Markwith went back to the house to make a half-assed attempt to clean up before investigators arrived. Police state the inside of the house is “nasty” and “unfit for human habitationâ€, with dog feces everywhere. They both were arrested.
I can’t imagine how anyone would just go off and leave their animals to go hungry for days, much less be so selfish, cold and heartless to allow their dying father to become dog kibble. I think there will be a special place in Hell for Yvonne Bell and Jennifer Markwith.

That’s just disgusting. It is so sad that all of our tax dollars go to keep these people in clean, climate controlled cells with all the food and meds they can con the jail/ prison staff into.
Some people should be denied human rights as part of their sentencing. When, oh, when can we get back to “an eye for an eye”????

It seems the sisters detached from their brother long ago. We can’t really know why. No one seems to have a brain cell to spare.
This story is the geriatric version of the child left in the closet. The weak and frail at the mercy of the healthy and cruel. I don’t know what the answer is, I swear.

I’m glad to see this on the front page. Saw it on the evening news a couple days ago and was absolutely horrified. Figured one of you would pick it up…
I hate to say it, but, I kind of hope this man dies so that these women can be charged with murder. Or, at least something severe enough to keep them locked up for a LONG time. I fear that won’t happen if he lives.

He took care of you when you were a helpless infant, probably changed your diapers, kept you fed, and did not let the dogs eat you. You couldn’t return the favor for your dying dad? If they didn’t want to take care of him, why didn’t they just leave him for social services to deal with? He would have gotten better care even at the county nursing home–even though they aren’t always up to very high standards, they at least don’t have packs of roving dogs trying to eat your face off. Of course, then they wouldn’t have had access to his pain meds, I guess.
I have the horrible feeling that elder abuse and abuse of those in long-term care is far, far more widespread than we know. All the conditions are there–the incredible stress of caring for someone day in and day out, the financial strain, and maybe not the best relationship with the bedridden one to start with. And needy adults just aren’t as appealing and cute as babies. Plus, there’s no “they’ll grow out of needy this stage” light at the end of the tunnel. I wonder if a lot of the signs of abuse get overlooked as just being frail or underweight due to the advancing illness or old age.

I haven’t been able to get this one out of my head since I first read it. Those women deserve a punishment beyond imagination…regardless of whether he lives or dies. Anything the justice system can dish out upon them isn’t nearly punishment enough.

I would just like to say that unless you fucking know the family and know all the details then maybe you shouldn’t leave comments about this story. His sisters have been searching for him for the last year, but yvonne bell made it impossible. They tried every thing they could think of to find him. They tried to get him to stay in one of their homes. He didn’t want it that way and neither did his daughter. His daughter is to blame not his siblings and not the dogs.

I think the ladies were very nervous about being filmed for tv and that’s why one was smiling and the other trying hard to be intellectual and detached. If what you say is true, it must have been an awful shock for them to learn of their brother’s situation. Did his daughter move him out of state? Is she his only child? What will happen now if he recovers — and I hope he does if he can end his life in a happier situation?

A couple of days ago, I made some disparaging comments about Jacksonville, Florida – with all of the recent DD perps that hail from the great state of Florida.
Just thought I would sling some mud Washington’s way…
I lived near Seattle for 3 years in the early 90s when grunge was starting and Seattle was the new hot/hip place to live in the USA. And everyone I worked with there in my first job right out of college was like “how soon can we find jobs elsewhere in the country and get the hell out of here???”.
Besides the rainy weather year round, we had the Green River killer and many other sociopaths that filled the news every evening. Lots of mutilated bodies found out in the woods… I wasn’t exactly sure where Parkland was, so I Googled it and saw it is smack dab next to Tacoma – which I remember as “white trash hell”. Doesn’t surprise me at all to see that sister smiling while describing how her brother was suffering. She looks just like the scum I remember seeing at the SeaTac mall…
To be honest, I am very surprised we don’t see many more of Seattle/Tacoma’s citizens here on the DD.

She did not move him out of state just out of the area. They learned about the whole situation just like everyone else, by seeing it on the news. they weren’t even sure where he was at. no one would give them answers. this has truly been a shock to the whole family.
i would also like to say sorry for the last comment. i am married into this family so it hurts to read people talking like they know what’s really going on, when it is far from the truth. every where we look someone is blaming the sisters, and it’s not that way at all!

i’m a sister to micheal warner i live out of state.
my sister michelle.looked for micheal. for a long time
shirley was nervous about being on tv.we never have been on tv before
shirley is a very loving compassionate person who would give you her last dollar if you needed it more.
michelle kinda of became the one we turned to after our mom passed away in 1993.
there was 11 of us kids we have lost two brothers one just a little over a year ago.
my family loved micheal and any one of us would of helped if we had known where he was at.
we are heart sick over this mess.if you can;t trust ones own daughter to care for her dad who can you trust?
micheal yes will die from his cancer.i pray to god one of my brothers or sisters are by his side when god calls him home.
my one brother cut his vacation short and rushed back home to be with mike.
please don’t judge the family of mike
why you ask arent i up in wa with them it’s simple my husband and i are on limited income and my husband is facing open heart surgery
micheal was loved by us all.
Bells and markwiths judgement day will come.
and when in hell i hope they suffer the painful suffering mike did

Tobyman, I think we all get it now. It only makes sense that this crappy excuse for offspring would HIDE her father so no one would know what was happening to him. This is typical of abusers of all kinds. They will separate their victims from all family and friends.
I would expect that coming from such a large family that at least one of you would have stepped in had you known what was going on.

I can’t imagine what the family is going through….at first I couldn’t understand WHERE the rest of the family was, and you and DSA coming on here helped me to understand that better…I am truly sorry the family was kept out of Michael’s life and he had to suffer the way he did. I cared for my grandparents…TOTALLY until they passed peacefully at home…I cannot fathom what these two pieces of shit were thinking and I hope they rot in HELL…….actually a place WORSE than hell if there is one!
Also, DSA, no the dogs should NOT be blamed…the news guy said he was attacked by his dogs. He wasn’t, they were trying to survive…Michael and those pitiful dogs are the victims here.

Aw, hell naw. Why you gotta dump Seattle in the same catagory as outside of Tacoma?!? Oh, and “near Seattle” isn’t “in Seattle”. Many of us Seattleites don’t claim a goddamn thing outside of the Seattle metro area (which tends to include the cities directly surrounding Seattle).
HOWEVER, this is the Pacific NW. For as long as the West was discovered, those who wanted to be left alone or get away with shit have moved up here and settled outside the cities. We’ve got a lot of weird shit up here, because they don’t feel comfortable among general society. Hippie communes, polygamists, white supremacists, religious extremists, etc. It doesn’t surprise me a bit when crazy shit goes down around here.

Please accept my apologies for what i said. I thought if the sisters were right there to be on TV that they must have known where he was and not cared.
If Michael was proud and wouldn’t take your help, and his daughter was evil and kept him away, that explains a lot. It also makes things all the more tragic to know that there is such a large loving circle willing to embrace him and you were unable to.

Listen, seriously, DEMAND another case worker. This one is obviously mentally challenged to EVER say such a thing…..that pieces of shit left her dad as dog food for her starving dogs and she wants ANOTHER chance at him?
