Do I think that is ideal? No of course not, in an ideal world kids would date for a couple years and lose their virginity together the night of Senior Prom. But I think those days ended in the late 50’s

The mandatory sex offender registration for life makes this whole area 10 times greyer. I could stomach an 18 or 19 year old being jailed for 6 monthes for sex with a 13 or 14 year old, I suppose, but the lifetime registration as a RSO is absurd.

Look up the case in Georgia of Genarlow Wilson and the outrageous suffering he and his family went thru for several years…….and he had consentual sex at 17 with a 15 year old girl!

Please understand I am not advocating Pedophiles………these are not Pedophiles, a Pedophile is an adult who is only sexually attracted to pre-pubescent children (usually age 3-11) and and Infantiphile is an adult sexually attracted to infants under 3. These are the people that need to be locked away and kept out of society because they are the true dangers, not teenagers 4,5,6 years apart who may not have the common sense of adults, but are physically matured and are sexual creatures, even if that upsets many parents

To me a 7 or 8 year old is a child and may know of sex but def. doesn’t understand the actual consequences of having sex. A 13 year old does. They understand more than people want to give them credit for. Like what Pretty says, I am viewing this also from my life experiences and know how I thought and felt at that age. I, again, think this 13 year old has lied and now someone who is probably innocent will be saddled with this the rest of their life. MUCH younger than we did.

I dont think age of consent laws should be 13 or 14 nationwide, as in a 14 yr old can give consent to have sex with a 45 yr old man………But I do think they should be closer to 16 nationwide, or have a larger gap in the “Romeo and Juliet” laws ages

even tho this is a case involving 2 girls, many time a 17 or 18 yr old boy can be charged with statutory rape of a 13 or 14 year old girl and you know a number of these cases the girls are mature for their age, look 17, say she is,and everything is fine til they have a fight and she cries rape. I remember relentlessly pursuing a 19 year old neighbor at 14, luckily he had the sense to avoid me, but i am 36 now, so not just this generation of girls

Parents would be better off being realistic about sex ed, birth control and STD testing than livig in this fantasy world that a 14 year old is utterly innocent and guiless and MUST have been raped, even if it comes out 6 monthes later!

But check out the comments on this article. This girl has some very serious defenders and they hate this 13 year old and her family. They also hate the paper for ruining her life since she hasn’t even been found guilty.

Wow! I had no idea things were so messed up down there. From what I can tell, and I read many of those comments and scanned most of the rest, they ran about 95% in Stephanie Kikland’s favor. And it appeared that vast majority of comments were from people with no connection to her or her family.
On the contrary, False allegations of child rape and sexual abuse are a real problem in that area of SC, and the police seem to have a pretty low standard to trigger an arrest. None of this may mean anything in regards to this case, but it’s good to know.

It doesn’t work like that. Biologically (and generally speaking), 20 year olds and 13 year olds are capable of procreation. A 7 or 8 year old is not. Pedophiles are sexually attracted to prepubescent children. 13, in most cases, is not prepubescent. That means, while the people who sleep with them are doing something socially unacceptable, they are not “sick” in literal terms, like pedophiles are.
