Aiken, SC – Stephanie Gail Kirkland, 20, enjoys the music of Ashley Tisdale and Usher, hanging out with friends, her kitten, Chipper, and having sex with a thirteen-year-old girl. Stephanie turned herself in to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday after a warrant was issued for her arrest on charges that she sexually assaulted the girl multiple times last year.
The Sheriff’s Office says that Stephanie engaged in lewd sexual contact with the thirteen-year old between May and December of 2007, and that the assaults occurred in multiple locations. Deputies didn’t say why the charges are just now being filed. Details are being withheld, although I have no doubt that some of our readers would pay big bank to see Stephanie reenact the encounters with another girl of legal age.
Stephanie is a tiny little thing – 4′11″ and just about 100 pounds. She looks younger than her stated age. So what’s happened here, really? Is Stephanie a predator who likes the young stuff? Or is there something else going on here behind the scenes? After all, she did turn herself in to deputies. And as of this evening, she’s out of jail on an order of release from the judge in her case. And while charges aren’t generally filed without some evidence, Stephanie looks pretty innocent – on the surface.
Then again, it’s unusual for a young woman to molest a child, but not unheard of. And a thirteen year old cannot give consent in South Carolina. Surely Stephanie knew the girl’s age. If she were a guy, no matter how cute or innocent-looking, we’d be hanging him by his balls. So what do you think? Did she do it, or not?
Stephanie Gail Kirkland is charged with three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct and four counts of lewd acts on a minor. Since she’s out of jail now, maybe she’ll come explain to us what really happened. Maybe she did it. Or maybe the young pussy Stephanie likes is just a kitten named Chipper.
Update 9/30/2008 - Barbara is not returning phone calls yet, but Assistant Solicitor Steve Kodman stated that multiple inconsistencies in the victim’s statements was a factor in their decision to drop the charges.
“There are times where law enforcement has enough probable cause to make an arrest, but we have to be able prove it beyond a reasonable doubt to take it to court,” Kodman said.
Officials will not be charging the 13-year-old with any crime as they have stated nothing leads them to suspect the alleged victim lied about what happened. So, there you go.

Oh come on. 13 may be too young to give consent in SC, but that doesn’t make what happened child molestation. Kirkland was 19, maybe 18 when this happened (and judging by her taste in music, exceptionally immature). Does anyone here doubt that the 13 year old was a willing participant? This was an ongoing thing, for the better part of a year, eight months ago. This girl is not a pedo. The “victim” is now mad at Kirkland for some teenage reason, and is using the law to get revenge.
This “victim” makes it harder for true victims to be taken seriously, clogs up our judicial system, and takes resources away from those who could really use them.

If an 18 year old boy was screwing around with a 13 year old girl, is that molestation? I think we all know the answer to that as there are plenty of young men in prison for molestation from these types of relationships.

No, 13 year olds aren’t capable of sensible decisions at all. But at some point you have to learn that making bad decisions sucks, and that you might regret them later. And you have to learn that you are responsible for your own bad decisions- you can’t lay all the blame on someone else because you’re just some weak, innocent little victim. If you never learn to accept responsibility for the stupid things you’ve done, you’ll never be capable of making sensible decisions. It will always be someone else’s fault.
That said, I don’t think the 13 year old in this case later regretted boinking Kirkland, she just got mad about something and decided that even though she was perfectly able to make the decision to sleep with Kirkland then, now she wanted Kirkland to be punished. I don’t think slutty 13 year olds should have the power to ruin someone’s life because they’re having a teenage temper tantrum. And I bet when she reaches a rational age, she’ll feel terrible about having Kirkland labeled a sex offender for the rest of her life.
There isn’t a solid number. Some 13 year olds will pursue much older partners. Some 13 year olds can be taken advantage of by 15 year olds. Unfortunately, there is no age at which all of the population will be unable to be victimized, and everyone reaches sexual maturity at different points. But you can’t arrest everyone that you feel is taking advantage of someone else. When a 40 year old hooks up with an 18 year old, should that be considered perfectly fine, just because someone has passed that magical number?

I am not so sure. She may have come to the conclusion after some time that she made a big mistake being in a sexual relationship with her. Maybe other guys she knew and/or family members caught on to their relationship, she was confused and then she came to the realization that the whole thing wasn’t something she wanted or was proud of.
I know a couple of women friends who had a lesbian experience in their childhood, (I have seen survey statistics that indicate that >30% of women have had at least one experience of this type in their lives – like kissing a girl, to groping to more), and both have said that they are creeped-out and embarassed that it happened. They were young, impressionable and wanted to be popular.
I think what I wrote above is equally as plausible as your “she just got mad about something…”, and if what I wrote is true – she just might not feel that bad about labeling her a sex offender if she truly preyed on her for the relationship to happen and continue.
You and I have no idea what truly happened – hopefully the courts will sort it out…

If Stephanie boinked the thirteen year old from May to December 2007, she was at least 18 at the beginning, but then turned 19, when it happened. Repeatedly. Over months, in multiple locations.
She knew how old the girl was, I’m sure. And she knew, because virtually every girl knows, what the age of consent was in her state. So just because the 13 year old might have liked it at first, or might have been a consenting partner, does not make this legal or okay in any fashion.
There is a ginormous difference between 13 and 19, maturity-wise. If a young man already out of high school was doing your seventh or eighth grader, you’d be pressing charges regardless of her consent – I would hope. I really don’t see how this is different.

I don’t know where you grew up, but in SoCal (at least) it’s “cool” and “shocking” to experiment…at least if you’re a hot li’l thang. If you’re butch, not so much. But there is a lot of that going on now. You see it flaunted everywhere.
I have a hard time with this story. There is part of me that wants to say, “Crucify her. The girl was only 13.” But when I was 13, I was living on the streets and my survival instinct kicked in (along with buttloads of drugs and alcohol). Most of the people I hung out with were over 17…a lot of them took advantage of me, but I took advantage of my share, too. I might not have been able to legally consent to anything, but in my mind I knew damn well what I was doing – good decisions or bad, fully-developed critical thinking skills or not.
I have extremely mixed emotions about this case due to my own fucked up experiences. My verdict is still out.

Ok, I’m in a bit late on this.
The age of consent for females in SC is 14, as long as the partner is no older than 18…with a few exceptions here and there. SO we are probably talking MONTHS as far as her breaking the law or not. Either way, she broke the law, so off to jail with her dumb ass.

I am sorry, I just can’t see this as molestation…be this a female or a male. The ages are just too close for this “victim” to not have consented and it went on for too long. It never fails, there will always be a double standard when it comes to how society views older women with younger males\females than older men with the same. In fact, the double-standard becomes quickly apparent with almost every story we have ever done in which an older woman was the accused. BTW, this woman is 20. She is at an age where she would almost be, or have already, graduated college.

I disagree, for me at least, a 20 year old with a 13 year old is still not molestation, male or female. Make it a 30 or even 25 year old, then we can talk. But a 20 year old, is still too close to a teen imo, I don’t have a double standard in cases like this, I have problems with the whole they didn’t know what they were doing….that is bull. They KNOW very well what is going down unless they are restrained and forced. Too many times kids can take the law and twist it to their advantage…look at the kids who call 911 or threaten their parents with it to avoid much deserved discipline?? I was 15 and my BF was 23. He did NOT molest me, I was more than willing and KNEW what I was doing. He wasn’t a pedophile either. However, I could have gotten pissed at him and accused him and he WOULD have gone to jail, now THERE is your double standard imo. Most young girls 13 and up know the score and LOOK the part as well, being fully developed.

As archaic as the laws in SC are, they will have a hard time believing that a female can “rape” another female. Especially a halfway decent looking one.
Just because someone has knowledge beyond their years as far as sex goes, it does not give someone the right to break the law. Its akin to saying a rape victim asked for it because she was wearing a short skirt.
