Brooklyn, NY – Denetria Council escaped yesterday from a two-week nightmare.  On Sunday, July 20, she stumbled out of the apartment she shared with her boyfriend – burned and beaten, but alive.  Jason Page, 34, had gotten a little upset over two weeks ago, and Denetria, 22, had spent day after day tied to a baby crib, being tortured, waiting to escape - or die.Â
The torture began when Page lost his temper over the 4th of July weekend . He thought that Denetria Council had been seeing another man, and decided to teach his girlfriend a lesson – in front of their children, a seven-month-old and a three-year-old. For two weeks, he kept Denetria tied to the baby’s crib. If the phone rang and it was her stepfather, he’d sometimes let her talk, as long as he was right there. Usually, though, he told family that Denetria’s job hours had changed and she wasn’t there.
Denetria spent a lot of time with a sock duct-taped into her mouth. Page would spend hours at a time with a hot curling iron, burning Denetria over her body, from the bottoms of her feet to her chest – but never her face. He was careful only to torture his girlfriend from the neck down. In between, he’d leave her bound. Depending on his mood, he’d use a lighter on her feet or whip her with an electrical cord.
Denetria didn’t make it to her job as a home health aide. She didn’t make it anywhere until yesterday, when she managed to free herself after Page fell asleep. She went stumbling out of the apartment and made it to her parents’ house.
Her family immediately called police to get Denetria help, but Jason Page arrived before the police did. Page began choking Denetria in front of multiple witnesses, including neighbors. But as police showed up, Page ran, hopping on a city bus.
The bus was stopped, and Jason Page was arrested. He’s in jail now, charged with assault, weapons possession, and unlawful imprisonment. Denetria Council was taken to Woodhill Hospital, where she is being treated for severe burns. She is in serious but stable condition this morning.

I’m so glad to hear that she was able to get away. From the sounds of it, I don’t think he was ever going to stop the torture…..not until she was dead. Sorry for the kids to have to witness this asswipe torture their mom…….not to mention that mom will probably need YEARS of therapy to be able to “trust” anyone ever again.

Here we go again, a gang of chickenshits, all standing about cackling together. Thank goodness the police showed up timely. Otherwise our story would read about how multiple witness STOOD and WATCHED ONE pissy little man slowly kill one defenseless woman. Again, the MULTIPLE witness – watched. DAMN IT!! DAMN IT !!! DAMN IT!!!
I’m so thankful this woman got out with her children’s lives and her own. I’m glad they caught him. But honestly, if convicted on all counts, unless they upgrade the charges, how long do you think this bastard will actually pull in jail? Not nearly enough, and I’d be willing to bet, a man that would make this last for two weeks – will be back, as soon as he walks out the prison doors. What a piece of shit.

I have a question… she escaped but it didn’t say anything about those kids. Did she take them with her? If not, why not? If not did the father leave them at the apartment?

IO, i had to do some extra checking on that myself. I still don’t know whether she took her kids with her when she left. Given that she was severely burned and was originally listed in critical condition in the hospital, it would be pretty amazing if she had managed to take them with her.
Apparently, Jason Page did not abuse the kids, and they are with family. I can’t 100% confirm that right now, but it’s as good as i got.

There’s not near enough detail there to come to judgment about the witnessess. Maybe they were all elderly or infirmed? Maybe the cops showed up immediately after Page started choking her? After all, they had called the cops before Page arrived…

This is a very sad story …. poor woman – seems she made a good decision to go for help no way would she be able to carry two children that young. Luckily she felt they were not in danger.
I do too think attemped murder is inline for the choking
I am interested to know now what happens if she takes him back or they give him child visitation ……

Denetria’s a relative of mine…the children are not her’s..she doesn’t have children..The girl 8 years old is his..The 3 month old baby is his sister’s child…somehow he got custody from ACS…….It started with a single smack and you see the result….Just say a prayer for her..that she’ll be able to mentally and emotionally recover from the scars that are deeper than the surface

Wow.. I had no idea they weren’t her children. So whose kids are the three year old and seven month old that were in the apartment? Did the press get the kids’ ages wrong, or are those different kids?

Denetria’s progressing slowly..but recovering ..God Bless..The newspaper has the story wrong…Jason’s daughter is 8 years old and the 3 month old baby belongs to his sister…there was no 3 year old..
My understanding is that he missed court Friday because he got both his legs broke while in jail….RAH RAH…I hope they finish him off…
