Columbus, OH – The best laid plans of LaToya Conley went awry on Wednesday night.  Conley, 26, swears she wasn’t reeeeally kidnapping two-year-old Samira Davis; she was just “teaching the mother a lesson.”   And in Conley’s mind, “teaching Keisha Davis a lesson” means “stealing her toddler, hiding her in a closet, and joining in the search for about five hours.”

Keisha Davis is Conley’s neighbor.  On Wednesday evening at about 6:30, Davis let her two-year-old daughter, Samira, out on the apartment patio to play while she was cooking dinner. That’s when LaToya Conley saw Samira and took her home, hiding the child in a second-floor closet in the multilevel apartment.

Conley and David were friends.  In fact, Conley had watched Samira for Davis before.  And Conley says that Keisha Davis doesn’t watch her kid right.  “She’sShe reviewsShe reviews always wandering around alone outside,” Conley said.  “I feel bad things got out of hand, but I was just trying to teach the mother a lesson.”

When Davis panicked, looking frantically for Samira, LaToya Conley came right over to help in the search. When police arrived, Conley was helpful, telling them she’d already looked everywhere in her own home, and they should concentrate on other areas.   But later, when police asked to look in her home anyway, Conley balked.

Eventually officers did get into the home.  At about 11:15 Wednesday night, police found little Samira unharmed, hidden in the closet – along with toys, books, clothes, and two unloaded handguns. So was LaToya Conley really just trying to teach Keisha Davis to watch her child more closely, or did she have a more sinister motive in mind?  I guess it hardly matters, since the baby was in Conley’s closet.

As Keisha Davis put it, “That’s not no good to teach me. I mean, snatch my baby up for a whole bunch of hours and then help me look for her that whole time.”

Conley was arrested and taken to the Franklin County Jail.  She is charged with kidnapping and will be arraigned later today.

I believe she probably did have good intentions, although they were kind of made null by the fact that she put the baby in a goddamned closet. With guns. What a dumbass.

If she really wanted to teach her friend a lesson, all she would have had to do is snatch the kid up, entertain her for a few….then when Mom freaked out looking, she could go, “Ha ha, got you, you neglectful Mother you. Keep a closer eye on your child, darlin’, otherwise, next time it won’t be me that snatched her up.”

Not that that’s even all too acceptable, but she certainly wouldn’t have gotten herself arrested on a kidnapping charge that way.

Nor would her mug be gracing the FP of the D’D.

Something like this happened to me once. My best friend’s older sister had a little girl who was not quite two. We lived three houses down and across the street from them. One day my friend and I were hanging out at my house, and we heard funny noises out front. We open the door, and there is this little girl, wearing a diaper and a boot. That’s right a boot. Her mother had left her playing in their backyard, which was filthy, had rusted chicken wire and nails all over it, and a gate she knew didn’t shut. We tried calling the house, but the line was busy, because she was chatting online. 45 minutes later, the mom’s friend started walking up and down the street looking for the girl. It took an hour and a half before the mom actually roused herself to go look for her child.

I was only 16 when this happened. All I did was yell at her how bad of a mother she was. If that happened now, I would call C.P.S. While I was horrified then, I wasn’t old enough to understand how seriously wrong that was. Luckily, the girl later went to live with her paternal grandmother (maternal grandmother is dead), and she’s doing fine.

I just want to know how long this girl was missing before mom noticed. That says a lot about whether or not the “lesson” was truly necessary. In any case, 26 is old enough to know better than to pull something like this. But I kind of wish I had thought to do this at 16.

Stupid, stupid, stupid!!! I admit i’m one of those mothers who’s children did not play outside unless I was with them, not even at the back door, I was always terrified one of the sick pervs would grab them, but to do something like this???? Just plain stupid, now she’s going to prison, but maybe mommy will pay closer attention to her little one

I am wondering how long she would have kept that little girl had the police not discovered her.

Exactly! Good grief! If “teaching her a lesson” was all she had in mind, why not tell the police ASAP. And WTF is up with the loaded handguns?

I believe the article said unloaded guns. I may be wrong, I’ll have to look.

Too bad that little girl is going to learn to talk like her mother. That’s also not no good.
