Caylee Marie Anthony and her mother, Casey Anthony

OrlandoOrlando reviewsOrlando reviews, FL (July 16) - Two-year-old Caylee Marie Anthony was last seen on June 9. But she wasn’t reported missing until last night. And Orange County investigators want to know why not. Tonight, Caylee’s mother Casey Anthony, 22, is in custody and being questioned about the disappearance of her daughter. Caylee’s maternal grandparents reported the toddler missing yesterday after Casey Anthony admitted to them that she had not seen her child in over a month. So where is Caylee?

Casey Anthony has spun quite the story for her parents and for investigators. She says that she left Caylee with a friend of hers, Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez, on Monday, June 9. Anthony says she dropped Caylee off at the Sawgrass Apartments in Orlando with Zenaida, who was supposed to babysit, but somehow lost track of both the sitter and her two-year-old for weeks on end.

Problem is, so far, police have been unable to locate Zenaida or even prove that she exists. The apartment where Anthony says she left her daughter a month ago has been vacant – for five months. Anthony’s timeline is “of interest”, say investigators, and while they initially stopped short of calling Casey Anthony a suspect, her lack of interest in her daughter’s whereabouts, her emotionless responses during interviews, and her ginormous stack of lies all lead in one direction.

The lies didn’t stop – or start – with the apartment. Casey Anthony’s parents last saw their grandchild when Casey took Caylee and moved out of their home well over a month ago. They’d call Casey, asking to see their adored grandbaby. Were Casey and Caylee all right, at least? Casey Anthony always said yes, always said that she had Caylee with her. They were living with friends. Everything was fine. For more than a month, Casey Anthony lied to her parents. That story fell apart on July 15, when Cindy and George Anthony confronted their daughter and reported Caylee missing to police.

At that point, Casey Anthony’s story changed to the “Zenaida” one. She said that when she went back to get her child on June 9, she wasn’t there. But instead of calling police or her parents, she “did her own investigation”, going to clubs where “Zenaida” was known to hang out. Why? Because she’d seen movies where kids got killed if the police were called. Yeeeaaahhhh.

Anthony also told police that she worked at Universal Studios Florida. She gave them her bosses’ name and number, even. I don’t know what she thought they were gonna do with that besides check it out, but as it turned out, Anthony was fired from that job in 2006 and hasn’t held a job since. And two of Casey’s friends told investigators that Anthony would say Caylee was at a theme park or the beach when they asked about her in recent weeks.

Caylee is two and a half years old. She is Caucasian, with light brown shoulder-length hair and hazel eyes. She is approximately three feet tall and weighs about 35 pounds. Because of the timeline concerns, it’s not even certain that June 9 was when she was last seen.

Casey Anthony was arrested today and is being held at the Orange County Jail without bond pending further investigation. Currently, she is charged with child neglect and obstructing an investigation by lying to law enforcement officers. Here’s the .pdf link to the arrest report, which is quite the interesting read. One boyfriend is listed as Ricardo Morales. A newer boyfriend, who contacted police and has been cooperative, was named as Anthony Lazzaro. He says Casey told him her daughter, who he met once on June 2, was always “with the nanny”.

I’m obliged here to report that if you’ve seen Caylee with or without her mother, you should call the Orange County Sheriff’s Office or the Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477. Sadly, the signs all point to “gave baby away”, “sold baby for meth”, “got new boyfriend, no longer need child” or “killed baby in a fit of drug-fueled rage over (insert toileting or other issue here)”.

I hope I’m wrong. I hope “Zenaida” took the baby to the Bahamas for a fun-filled holiday and forgot to call. But somehow, I just don’t think that’s the case.

July 17 - A judge has denied bond for Casey Anthony this morning. Orange County Judge John Jordan told Casey, “You left your 2-year-old child with a person who does not exist at an apartment you cannot identify and you lied to your parents about your child’s whereabouts. You cared so little about your child.”

Sounds like they’re gonna hold her until they find Caylee, or until she cracks. I hope so.

UPDATE July 22 – Cindy Anthony is one of the most annoying witnesses ever. However, she has listed this guy – Jesse Grund (www.myspace.com/jesse4) as the man she believes is Caylee’s father. Interesting. Cindy Anthony says that now, the last time she saw Caylee – and took video – was on June 15. She states she left the house on the morning of June 16 and Casey and Caylee were there. She says from June 16 to July 15, she did not see Caylee or talk to her. She says she did talk to Casey or have text or IM communication every day. Casey told Cindy that she was in Jacksonville on vacation with a man named Jeff Hopkins.

Cindy Anthony further says that she “will not handcuff” Casey anywhere, but will provide people to sit with Casey. Grandma Cindy is under cross about the stuff she spewed at the national media. She says she knows that the only reason Casey would be withholding information is because she “believes” Casey is being threatened. There is a dispute between Cindy Anthony and Det. Cpl. Yuri Melich, in which Mrs. Anthony told Melich she didn’t like his investigation and if he didn’t change his tactics, the Anthonys would no longer cooperate.

As the hearing continues, all kinds of interesting stuff comes out. A tip from a hairdresser has also come in alleging physical abuse of Caylee. There is also an unrelated photo showing bruising to Caylee’s eye. Casey’s family states that Casey never abused Caylee. Casey’s abandoned car does, in fact, have evidence of human decomposition inside it. Right now, Deputy Forgey, whose dog alerted on the car is on the stand detailing the dog alerts on Casey’s car and the spots from the Anthony’s backyard, where no body was found but where, it appears, some kind of human decomposition odor was present. At this point, it appears that they are looking at the possibility that Caylee is dead. In fact, Casey has now been called a “person of interest” in a “possible homicide investigation”.

Judge Stan Strickland has ordered a psychological evaluation to determine competence. Strickland says “the truth and Miss Anthony are strangers”. Casey Anthony’s bond is set at $500,000 plus GPS, forfeiture of any passport she might have, and can reconsider the bond at a later date if the situation arises.

UPDATE 7/24/08 – Casey Anthony’s $500,000 bond has been changed to include home confinement with electronic monitoring rather than GPS monitoring. Attorney Jose Baez is appealing the bond, saying it is “outrageous” and the Anthonys can’t pay it. This evening, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office has released two 911 calls made by Cindy Anthony on July 15 – one at 8:44 p.m., the other at 9:41 p.m. In the first call, Cindy tried to have Casey arrested for theft and mentions that Caylee is missing. In the second call, Cindy is crying and says that Casey’s car “smells like there was a dead body in it.” Download the calls here. As usual, I’ll update as new information becomes available.

What a pretty little girl. Same age as one of my babies. This won’t end well, and that mother should have her baby making parts ripped out of her. She knows exactly where her child is.

Maybe it’s just because my kids and I are extremely close with my parents, but how did it take a month for anyone to realize that this child was missing? Obviously, the mother knows more than she lets on, but how did her parents or other family members not realize that a child was missing for A MONTH?!

This women is a stupid, piece-of-shit. Never, ever, in a million years could I just leave my child and oops…lose track of her…not sure where she ended up. She is a bitch and a liar. Something terrible likely happened to this child either by this stupid bitch or she did go missing and said, hey not so bad not having her here…. I hate her… I’ll try hard to erase her face from my mind.

I’ll pray for you little Caylee

The mom looks like a meth user, slut, whore, terrible mother and this is just so unbelievable to me just like the other idiot fuckers out there we all read about, ya know How is it, that in our society people are so uncaring? they have no care for humanity or themselves or for that matter any of us??? Casey Anthony told police that Caylee’s father is dead, but given the other things she’s lied about, they’re checking her story very carefully.

I’ve added some information to the article to clarify the grandparents’ position. Caylee and Casey lived with them, and Casey took Caylee and moved out. After that, she wouldn’t let her parents see Caylee, saying they were fine and living with friends. The elder Anthonys confronted Casey on Tuesday, her story changed, and Casey’s mother had Casey call to report Caylee missing.

The second Myspace I linked is Casey Anthony’s. The older comments from June and early July are really interesting reading in light of the fact that all that time, Caylee was gone. Or dead.

Thanks, SoUncool. I started this article before I saw yours up, but I’m glad it’s getting coverage both places. Someone knows what happened to Caylee. It’s no big stretch to figure out who that someone is, but still.

What a psycho bitch. She “laughed” about the situation, according to the police report. As soon as the story hit the news, several people who knew her called the police and gave sworn statements saying that she was a habitual liar and had stolen from some of them. That baby is dead, and this bitch should be dead.

Oh, how sad and how true. You know, I almost finding myself hoping the child was sold – at least, maybe the purchaser was just desperate for a child and will love her. Ok, having read that arrest report, I’d say this woman is not your run-of-the-mill stupid, lying criminal. She’s clearly had a complete break from reality. The frequency of lies she told which were sure not to fly is absurd. I’d say there’s something seriously wrong with her. I found it interesting that there was mention of someone driving her for medical care following a seizure earlier this year….

The rest of it is freaky. I mean, the fact that there really IS a Zaneida Gonzales who really DID visit that apartment complex this spring to view apts, but is not the same person she claims has her child is just odd. Could there really be another person who stole Ms Gonzalez’ identity who is running around out there as her??

I mean, the fact that Casey had this name connected to the Sawgrass Apts, and there really IS a person of that name who had a connection to them seems odd to me.

She’s either a complete schizophrenic or drug addict who sold or killed her baby. Or someone has gaslighted beyond all reason. But it’s clear she’s got major mental health issues.

That baby is beautiful. Just beautiful. I hope she sold her baby to some couple desperate for a little girl to love. I really do.

After reading that I agree Ruby. She went into the place she claimed to work and walked “with purpose”. She’s got mental issues whether they’re drug induced or seizure induced or whatever.

I’m so afraid you are correct.

And Ruby, I’d have to agree with your assessment, as well. The Gonzalez thing, now that’s just freaky. I mean what if it were true, someone was posing as this person, the whole time and really does have this dumb bitches baby?

Honestly, how many of us could pick a name out of thin air and it actually be connected to the very place mentioned and there actually be proof, the person had, at least, at some point been to the place in question? Its not as if she picked a common name like John Smith – maybe the Gonzalez part but that “Z” name – now that’s not common.

  25. solange822001
    11:08 am on July 17th, 2008

I agree that the whole Zaneida thing is not just coincidental. I thought for sure that it was an acquaintance of hers, but the fact that neither of them recognized the other rules that out. I think more likely than not she got the name from some records or something. She is a thief, so maybe she broke into the apartment office or something, I don’t know. I can’t believe how she kept insisting that she worked there, even after the cops had called Universal and proved her wrong. She went as far as to show up there and argue with the security guard and everything. I agree this chick is extremely mentally disturbed. I say we waterboard her and get her to tell where the baby is. Seriously, I don’t want this to end up like Trenton Duckett, where the dumb bitch offs herself and no one ever discovers the truth. We need to get her to tell where that baby is

Please let this baby be safe. The police report does not look good, but I am holding on to the hope that this Zenaida person did exist if even for a brief time and took the baby to care for it correctly. I know this is a naive wish but it’s the only hope I can hang onto after reading this heart breaking article.

Oh, and to whoever said this woman looks like a meth addict? This girl looks perfectly healthy, to me…unless there are other pictures I haven’t seen.

I think a psychotic break of some sort is possible; if you’ve ever been around someone suffering from such a break, it can be intensely frustrating. They may seem like they are compulsively lying, but it’s what they truely believe. It’s freaky.

Either way, while I don’t find it likely, I really hope this little one is found safe.

Probably an act of Congress, because as far as I know you can’t force a person who passes a psychological exam to take any drug. And, as evidenced by the Elizabeth Smart case, sometimes you can’t even force the batshit crazies to take anything, either.

I wonder about the Zenaida connection, too. It’d be wonderful if Zenaida does exist and did take Caylee somewhere safe… but i doubt it.

It’d never happen. Innocence is presumed, so the government would never be legally granted the right to force drugs on someone in an attempt to make them tell the cops something that individual may or may not know.

Actually, the police interviewed several Zenaida Gonzalezes. Apparently it’s not as uncommon a name in Florida as it is elsewhere. But none of them connected – the closest was the Zenaida who looked at an apartment at Sawgrass in April, and she didn’t know Casey.

On the Cayleeismissing myspace, the woman is listed as Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez.

I think Casey is setting up for a mental disease or defect defense.

I doubt there are two Zenaida’s out there, unless there is a friend who has the baby and the mother lied about the name, but I seriously doubt that….

Someone named Zenaida Gonzalez does exist, and visited the apartments where Casey claimed she lived in the Spring. There is a record of her visit in the apartment manager’s records. The police located her, and she claimed to have never seen/heard of Casey or Caylee. But stranger still, when the police showed Zeneida’s picture to Casey, she claimed that was NOT the woman she knew by that name.

Clearly, based on the police report, Casey has some disconnect from reality. Psychotic break would sum it up nicely.

HOWEVER, the possibility still exists that someone stole the name/identity of Zenaida Gonzalez and that this was the person Casey knew and left Caylee with. I doubt it, actually, but it is possible. I find it strange Casey told the police so much about Zenaida G., but then stated adamently that the woman they turned up was NOT the woman she knew by that name. This bothers me.

As for the grandparents, I read a bunch of comments on the story on the Orlando Sentinal’s website, and a family friend has posted a bunch of info. The grandparents (Casey’s parents) didn’t know where Casey and Caylee were staying. They tried repeatedly to track them down, as they were worried about them. Every time they arrived where they thought Casey was, she was gone. They did speak to her by phone a few times, and she always insisted Caylee was fine, but that she couldn’t talk to them right then. They knew things weren’t “right” but never believed Casey would harm Caylee, so they just kept trying to make face-to-face contact with her to get the real scoop. This is all according to a poster on that comments thread.

Yes I know, but this is just so horrible it is worth holding on to a little bit of hope.
Hope that the baby is not suffering
Hope that the baby might be returned
I seriously doubt that will be the outcome but I try to hold on to a little bit of hope in cases like this because I have seen children returned.

I cant imagine what those grandparents are going through. That stupid bitch mother should be made to talk!

I think you hit the nail on the head. I think she’s had a complete break. She’s been talking freely to them, giving them all sorts of information — all of which has turned out to be complete and utter crap. So how do you proceed from there??

I’m sure they’re still talking to her, but I suspect they’ve decided they have a better chance of getting information from someone other than her.

I read the police report and the article.

I would be OK living in a world where this cop took this girl out back, stuck a gun in her mouth and said “your lying to me, if you don’t tell me the truth you are of no value to mankind and I am going to remove you from the gene pool. Do you have anything to say?”

If she told all, and it proved to be true she can live in jail from now on. If she is proved to have lied after that, the the officer is authorized to take her back out back and scatter the lump between here ears all over the parking lot. After her corps assumes room temperature, it should be burned at a temp of at least 2000 degrees F.

Since there is nothing to indicate this girl displayed new found wealth, I doubt she sold this child. I hope she is alive some place, but fear she is not.

Caylee is such a beautiful, happy child in all the pictures I’ve seen. She deserved so much better than this.

Where ever you may be Caylee, I hope you are well and that whoever has you it taking good care of you, be they spirit or human.

Thanks, Imp and Athena for your responses. Sad, but I’d say that you are 100% right on the money.

What to do from here? If you know “they know”, then how do you make them tell? Actually, why I had to ask, is real the mystery. After thinking about it – You can’t, its called “pleading the 5th” and “the right to remain silent”.

I guess I was just clutching to some last ditch effort to make her talk, without PHYSICALLY making her talk – ya know, like pulling her fingernails off one at a time till she tells what happened.

I think a psychotic break of some sort is possible; if you’ve ever been around someone suffering from such a break, it can be intensely frustrating. They may seem like they are compulsively lying, but it’s what they truely believe. It’s freaky.

Then we have this from Athena and its a very good point – her talking actually means nothing. If she has had this sort of snap described, she is telling what she BELIEVES in her warped mind to be true. So how can you tell anything other than what you believe? I guess that’s why I was hoping that there was something that could be administered to make her tell the truth. But what truth does her mind believe?

And round and round we go, while no one knows where the beautiful child is and the grandparents are suffering and mom, well hell who knows what’s in her mind? I’m not sure anymore, if she even knows.

I wish we’d get a visit from her brother. I assume it’s her brother….the one running her myspace page now. I imagine he might have some insight into whether or not she’s just snapped, or whether she’s always had mental health issues, or whether it’s drugs, or what….

He also might know who and where Daddy is.

I sadly *shakes head* believe that poor little girl is gone. Don’t care if mother has had a mental break or what. Fuck her. With this amount of publicity wouldn’t this child (even if sold) have been seen by someone?
    Anyone?

I really think Casey knows exactly where Caylee is, if she is at all. Just because she’s a pathological liar doesn’t mean she’s insane. It just means she’s a liar.

Oh, I’m with you on that. I have not seen any proof that she is anything but a liar. I was only considering the comment Athena threw out there about this type of snap, if there was one, and its possibilities.

More than likely, she is just a selfish, lying, murdering bitch that had something better to do.

One other thing I find odd – the mention of the baby’s daddy. Obviously, the cops can’t take her word for where he is – but, do her parents not know who the daddy is? or Where the dad is living or is he living?

One would think, that they would have been able to shed some light on that little detail. Maybe he is dead because Whacko here killed him? I guess, since the cops are speaking with her parents and the brother, I find it odd that no one can say where or if the dad is around.

Yeah, or locate a birth certificate which may have daddy-o’s name. Whether he’s dead or not, it seems that since no one is speaking of him, I’m guessing he was truly not in the picture.

Oh, this one is making me heartsick. She looks just like one of my best friend’s kids did at that age (now 6). Why does resemblance to someone you know make it hurt more?
