UPDATE 7/12/08 – Clarissa Pierce, 22, has been charged with felony child neglect for failure to seek medical help for her two year old son Nicholas for five days while the child suffered with second and third degree burns over 50% of his body. The burns were inflicted by John Cellner, Pierce’s boyfriend. Pierce is being held in the Ottawa County Jail on $150,000 bond.

Wyandotte, OK – John Cellner thought he could pass it off as a radiator gone wrong. Cellner, 23, is accused of burning his girlfriend’s two-year-old son, Nicholas, from neck to knees, front and back. The toddler has third degree burns, some of which have already required skin grafts. Even worse? It took five days for the child to get medical help. Five days, people. How do you look a baby in the face and just decide not to get him help for excruciating trauma for FIVE DAYS?
The child’s name is being withheld (edit: the child’s name is Nicholas.), but I think his mother’s name is Clarissa, unless John’s got a new girlfriend. (edit : it is Clarissa. She’sShe reviews
now been charged as well.) On June 27, the little boy was somehow scalded so severely that his skin peeled off – he had second and third degree burns over fifty percent of his body. And yet nobody took Nicholas to a doctor. It wasn’t until he was taken to the Sunshine Clinic in Miami, Oklahoma on July 2 that anything at all was done for the little boy.
At the clinic, it was quickly obvious there was a big problem. Staff had Nicholas transferred to a hospital in Tulsa and then hotlined the family. The toddler was treated in the burn unit of the Tulsa hospital while investigators talked to the mother and to Cellner. Cellner first said that he opened a radiator cap and the contents sprayed the child, but that didn’t work based on the burn patterns, so investigators went out to look at Cellner’s vehicle. They didn’t see anything wrong with it.
Cellner’s story started changing. He couldn’t keep it straight. The latest and apparently final version is that he took off the radiator cap, it sprayed the child, and he responded to the spray by grabbing Nicholas and holding him under scalding water for “between three and fifteen minutes” because…. get this… he “didn’t know the water was hot.”
Yeah, he’s a genius, that John Cellner. But don’t paint all Okies with the same brush, because the Ottawa County Sheriff’s office had the good sense to call bullshit on the steamiest pile in Wyandotte. John Cellner was arrested on Thursday and charged with felony child abuse. He’s being held in the Ottawa County Jail on $250,000 bond.
UPDATE - On Friday, July 11, charges were filed against the child’s mother, Clarissa Pierce. OMFG I am so angry after reading this story. Years ago my BIL took the cap off his radiator and it exploded all over his chest. Burned all his chest hair off, he had 2nd & 3rd degrees burns. He’s a pretty tough dude, but fuck yeah, that shit slowed his ass down. He was wrapped in gauze & looked half mummy………………….now, thinking about him & the pain he went through, I fucking cannot even imagine a child, having to endure this pain for 5 fucking days. I cannot believe the cruelty of that. Burn him & then make him suffer all fucking week. You bastards.

Poor, poor little guy. I am also very worried about the infections he may get (if he doesn’t have them already). Severe burns are notoriously prone to infection and you know the “adults” in the situation were not dressing his wounds or looking for signs.
I can’t believe this asshole let this little boy suffer for five days with second and third degree burns before bothering to get him treatment.
I guess I really shouldn’t be surprised by what humans are capable of anymore, especially since I read this site daily and comment infrequently. So while I am not surprised, I am disgusted by this monster, wondering why the hell the “mom” was MIA, and so, so sad for the child.

for one none of you know the true story as i happen to know it from unidentified sources
the mother was at work at the time this all happened and the babys burns looked like a not even severe sunburn
she didnt take him to the dr because he refused to take her as she does not have a car of her own
he did not tell her that any of the burns were from hot water until theyt went to the police dept
he was a security guard at downstream, a fairland reserve police officer, and a former ottawa county jailer
but as i said the mother was at work when all this happened
also, sources have told me that the child had been abused before and that it was thought that his biological father had done it as he had always said that daddy hit me..well there forawhile it is said that the child was calling john daddy
the mother was arrested for child neglect this morning and i believe is going to court monday but has a very good chance of getting out as she did not do nething, as it was all john
she is nothing but a loving mother to her child and is and has been trying her damndest to get this bastard put in jail where he belongs and to get her son back

Thanks for adding information. I the absence of information we go with what has proved time and time again to be true and that is that more often than not, the “other parent” knows something and did nothing to stop the abuse.
It is very rare that LEOs make an arrest, then drop charges. You will understand that until the mother is cleared of charges we will continue to ridicule and shame her.
I personally find it very difficult to believe this woman could not get help for her poor injured child.
If my kid is in pain as this kid HAD to be I, walk, crawl, call, drag myself, scream bloody murder, or simply ask a neighbor to, help me get my kid to safety and medical care.

Unidentified as in Clarissa, you say? Thanks for clearing that up. And the “true story”? Are you telling me the child wasn’t scalded? Are you telling me he doesn’t require skin grafts for third degree burns? Are you telling me that he did, in fact, get immediate medical attention? Yeah, I didn’t think so. What you are offering is excuses to try to clear the mother, not truth.
Second degree burns HURT. A LOT. Especially when they’re over 50% of your body. Third degree burns, not so much, but then again third degree burns look nothing at all like sunburn, so I call shenanigans on that.
Wyandotte has 911 and ambulance service, don’t tell me it doesn’t, I’ve been there. So she could have gotten help for her child. She CHOSE not to do so. After all, she did eventually manage to get her child to Miami to the clinic, so don’t tell me she was incapable – she just needed time to try to cover the severity so John wouldn’t get arrested.
I will buy that she was at work when it happened. I will buy that she got fed some dumbassed story about how it happened. Excuse me? I know EXACTLY what i’d do. I’d take my kid to the damned doctor if it meant calling 911 for an ambulance, because burns over 50% of a toddler’s body can be a life-threatening emergency.

I agree with Imp that she was probably fed some bullshit story by John, but regardless, you pick up the phone and call 911 and explain that your son has burns. If you don’t have a phone, then you go to a neighbor’s house and ask to use theirs. There is absolutely no FUCKING excuse for waiting 5 days to get this poor child help.

Well, since I raised my daughter to be 29 with a Masters degree in accounting and very much alive and well I figure I have a pretty good handle on the whole raising kids thing.
And yes, I do know EXACTLY what I would do in that situation. I’d get my kid some help before ANYTHING else. even in a worse case where I freaked out and lost my mind for a few minutes, or even hours I don’t wait FIVE FUCKING DAYS to get my kid some help.

I’m not sure how commenting on a story that is already in the news is “contributing to ruining other people’s lives” as you stated. I think John ruined his own life when he decided to hurt that little boy, and Clarissa ruined her life by not getting help for her son until 5 days after he was injured.
I had a 2nd degree burn about the size of a tennis ball on my leg, it hurt like hell and took 4 months to totally heal. I can’t even imagine being burned over 50% of my body. I hope the little one will be ok.

for one the little boy is my nephew and clarissa is my sister…i seen him the day after he was burned and the sunburn on my stomach looked xtremely worse than his did….he did not complain as to any pain whatsoever until the night before he was taken to the dr. so yes i do have all the facts and all the facts are correct!
