Lake Wales, FL – Nothing really says “I’m glad this bitch is not my mom” like Debra Crear Randall’s Parade of Mugshots. There’s the 2007 Expression Of Stoned Disdain mugshot. Then there’s last week’s Sorrow In Cornrows version. But my favorite is the 2002 You Done Messed Up My Hair mugshot. It’s descriptive without being overstated. It lends itself to a history of Prior Bad Acts. It’s kind of psycho, abusive mom without going all “oooh, she needs help.” That 2002 mugshot just says, “Wow, Tiera Crear, sorry your mom is a big ol’ bag of mean.”
And she is, y’all. Debra Crear Randall clearly has anger management issues, as evidenced by her multiple arrests in Polk County, Florida for assault and child abuse. Randall was arrested in 2002 for battery by touching or striking, and things in Polk County calmed down for a few years until her daughter, Tiera Crear, hit age 14.
Last December, Randall was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and cruelty to a child “without great harm”. Apparently this means that Randall went after her daughter with a weapon, but didn’t really intend to kill the child. Well, that’s heartening. For that, she did a couple of days and got out on $5,000 bond.
But this past Thursday, Debra Crear Randall may have outdone herself on her journey to Mommie Dearest-hood. It seems that on Thursday afternoon, Tiera had the radio on too loud, so Randall chose to confront her teenage daughter by attacking the girl with a roll of wallpaper. I guess she decided to start with the softer weapon first, or else grabbed whatever was at hand.
Randall swung the wallpaper roll, but missed, as Tiera has apparently become a pretty good dodger over her years of being her mother’s whipping girl. Frustrated with her bad aim, Randall then went into her bedroom and grabbed her handy pair of yard trimming shears. Yeah, you heard me. She went into the bedroom for yard shears. Maybe she uses them for bush trimming or something.
Meanwhile, the intrepid Tiera was not gonna take it any more, and she went to arm herself with a screwdriver and a kitchen knife. I guess nobody told her never to bring a screwdriver to a yard shears fight. Mama Randall came back and started trying to cut Tiera with the yard shears, and Tiera was feinting and defending herself pretty admirably with her chosen implements until Tiera’s little sister began to scream and cry and beg her mother to stop.
Yeah, I don’t know why Randall’s kids were living with her either. it seems a little odd that a mother with two previous arrests for beating the kiddos would still have them on hand for combat, but whatever, right? That’s Florida for ya. Anyway.
After a little while, Debra Randall got mad again. This bitch crazy! Randall picked up Tiera’s kitchen knife and began to attack the teenager with it. As Tiera tried to get free, she was cut on her fingers – nothing much compared to the emotional baggage of being attacked by your own mother. Way to teach parenting by love and logic, there, Debra!
No word on who actually called 911, but by Thursday’s end, Debra Randall was in the Polk County Jail minus her yard shears. She remains there on $15,000 bond, charged with aggravated child abuse. One hopes that this time, Florida gets a grip and finds Tiera and her sister a less exciting place to live.
