Thanks, Ruby! I actualy put a good bit of time into my response to you, Sir Geoff, so if you’re missing something it’s because you’re not really thinking. You’re the only person I see spouting platitudes, and meaningless–dare I say downright inaccurate–ones at that. “No offense.”

“victimized by society”……the excuse PC people use to defend criminals. Yes, it was society’s fault. Those poor teens were so poor and grew up in the ghetto they could afford BMX bikes and probably $200 sneakers. Talking to PC people is like clapping with one hand!

Here’s another angle: I didn’t even hear about this story where I live, but if it had been 3 white teens who beat a black homeless man to death I’m sure CNN, FOX news, etc….. would have had 24 hour coverage! Jesse Jackson, Al Charlaton, and all those types would be holding press conferences and calling for boycotts of Cleveland. Then HBO would make a preachy movie about it starring Denzel Washington as the homeless guy! I’m not trying to offend anybody, but everyone says America doesn’t like to face it’s racism (only when it’s PC), so that’s my rant!

No offense, but that cracks me up. Fox “News” is PC? That’s news to me. It would be news to them, too, I’m sure, and they’d be upset to hear it. LOL, if they’re so PC wouldn’t they want to do a story on how the perpetrators in this case were victimized by society? In my experience, what they love best, actually, are stories about white girls getting into trouble–anything that will allow them to show a little tits and ass while they hypocritically preach about morality out of the other side of their mouth. And if Fox had Jesse Jackson on, it would be solely to make fun of him. “PC” isn’t the issue here. Nor is the fact you haven’t seen this story on CNN or Fox News indicative of their racism toward white people. After all, I haven’t seen any of the stories on DD on either network, including those involving white-on-black violence.

That’s why I am trying to figure out what Harley meant by his statement. I know I don’t run in a fucking herd.

I think that Harley probably misspoke. Probably meant “mob mentality.” Not that I agree.

I think Harley was referring to the assailants and/or non-do-gooders in the story, not the users on this site…but I could be wrong.

This story is vastly different from the Modesto story, for a couple of reasons. The main one is that, in the Modesto story, all the witnesses stopped – some made physical attempts at intervening, others called the cops and others yet screamed at the man to stop. But, as far as we know, they all did something (even if it wasn’t enough). The other one is that, we’re talking significantly different environments. This happened in an urban setting. Witnesses who did nothing in this case probably weren’t as scared as they were desensitized. Unlike a rural situation, people in crime-ridden, urban areas are far more likely to consider things “not their problem”. THAT is unexcusable.

I will not fault the person who is too terrified to physically intervene; physiology may very well be preventing them. I will absolutely fault the person who doesn’t care enough to bother, however, which seems to have been the case, here.

This mindframe is, in my opinion, one of the great faults of urban areas. Once, when I lived in the hood, a man was hitting his girlfriend just feet from me, in the parking lot. I screamed at Mike (who was inside) to call the police while I smashed the end off a glass bottle and approached the man. The man immediately backed off his girlfriend, got into his car and left.

The funny thing was, after all was said and done…I was the bad guy. The girlfriend was mad at me because “it wasn’t a big deal”. Another neighbor was mad at me for involving myself in something that wasn’t my business (in reality, the woman-beater was his drug dealer, and he wouldn’t be able to get deliveries anymore). The hood discourages “do-gooders”. Still, it’s a goddamn shame that so many allow themselves to be discouraged.

I just need to man-up a little if I ever want to be taken seriously around here.

Other than that, I’m great. Keeping a close eye on a story about an aparment fire my neighbors and I watched at 1am Sunday morning that claimed the lives of three people. Word on the street is, fireworks were tossed at an apartment after a dispute. Dumbasses. I’ve never been that close to a fire, before. It was crazy; almost cartoonish (think Sin City rather than Tom & Jerry) .

There are people who believe that violence is the answer to any question you’re too ignorant to understand.
