Erin Howard Did Not Learn Her Lesson

Corry, PA - This past June 14th was Erin Howard’s birthday. She chose to celebrate her special day the Wal-mart grade celebutante way…with some Seagrams and root beer and a bowl full of pot. Ah, good times! At least until Howard decided to top the night off with some good old drunk driving - with her 6 year old son in the car - who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. I’m betting you can guess what happened next.

In the late afternoon they were involved in a serious car accident. Howard lost control of the car and crashed into a creek bed. Though neither was wearing a seatbelt, Erin escaped with only neck and rib injuries. Her son, Samuel Carpenter, lost his life. Howard’s BAC was .139 two hours after the accident and she had no license to drive in Pennsylvania. The only driver’s license she held, from Ohio, was suspended.

Three days later, Erin was charged with involuntary manslaughter, drunken driving, child endangerment and other charges related to the crash. Normally the story would be over, but this is DD folks, so you know it ain’t.

Now, I think the death of someone’s child because of that person’s bad decisions would be enough to make most people change…at least for a little while. Seems that Erin is not “most people.”

The fine folks of Erie County granted a 24 hour furlough to Howard to attend her son’s funeral in Ohio. After the funeral she did what most grieving mothers whose children were killed in drunk driving accident where they were the driver. She headed to the bar. Wait. What?

A BAR, ladies and gentlemen. Erin Howard went to a bar after her son’s funeral. Did you get that?

Around 11 pm, Curtis Carpenter, Samuel’s father, received a call from a friend telling him that Howard had gone to a bar called Tailgators. He then called police.

A warrant was issued for third degree felony escape and she was arrested 340 miles away from where she was supposed to be, 9 hours after the time she was supposed to be there.

Jiminy crickets! Talk about thick skulled bitches! This woman’s face should be what you see when you look up “irresponsible idiot twat.” I believe the “rehabilitators” in the local prison really have their work cut out for them. Good luck with changing this bitch.

Thanks Mom of 4!

Addiction can be wickedly powerful, and can be especially persuasive when you believe you’ve got nothing to live for. Not an excuse, of course - but I doubt her decision to hit the bar was solely the result of sheer callousness.

Ummm.. but to hit a bar 340 miles away from where she was supposed to be the next morning is probably not solely the result of sheer addiction, either. Just sayin’. :)

I’m in complete shock that they gave her a furlow to attend the funeral of her son….the son she killed by the stupid and irresponsible decision to drive drunk while he was in the car. Should have been her that was killed rather than a child.

    Dear Mr. Carpenter:

I don’t support violence, but I think the cops would have let you walk if you’d popped her in the face.

    Yours,

I drink too, but I never get behind the wheel of a car. Not even after 1 beer. I know better. I don’t even go to bars. I drink at home alone. My mistake is emailing while intoxicated. :D

I am surprised they didn’t excort her to the funeral home and straight back to pa. - I was unders the impression that the family pays a fee to have you escorted to intermediate family funeral such as a elderly parent.

Never had rootbeer and whiskey — sounds yucky -

    neighborhood bar like CHEERS maybe?

Well, yeah. Dead kid sob story’s got to be worth a few free rounds.

hard to say what I might try If I knew I was headed to Jail Hell if I had drowned my child jumping off the bridge sounds far better then volunteerly going back to Pa. jail

    Self centered egotistical bitch!!!
No respect at all for little Samuel, none what so ever!! Your ass may have been at the funeral, but you damn well should have been there! But you should have been in shackels and you should have been guarded. You have a problem, and we all can see it. Prison I am sure is not going to do a damn thing for you! You will probably walk out and hit the nearest bar!

I bet when you hit the bar you where doing shots in memory of Samuel!
Addicts can change..but that is only if they want too. By your actions, even killing your son hasn’t made you want to change..how much lower can you sink! Not too far in my eyes..you are already as low as a snakes belly.

1,000! Congratulations to one of the best sites on the Internet. That’s a lot of public shaming!

As to this story, I wonder that they let an addict go on her own to her son’s funeral. Did they really expect that she was going to come back sober? Corry, Pennsylvania, must be the naivete capital of the world.

Aww, I want to cry. Why don’t people realize that when they have children this part of their life is over? I mean, how many of these cases that we see here on DD involving drugs. Get a fucking clue people!

    I want to cry!

Addicts? What addict? I don’t see anything here about “she had delirium tremens and was seeing pink elephants and had to have a drink.” Many people go to bars after funerals–or have a drink back at the house within the context of a wake. Nothing uncommon about THAT part of the story.
