In fact, America has harsher sentencing guidelines than most of western civilization, especially England, Canada and Germany, for example. The fact of the matter is, there is a finite amount of space in prisons and, unless someone does something serious, we can't always manage to keep them locked up. Of course, we aren't too fantastic at prioritizing, when a drug user gets years in prison... No, not “only in America”, Rex. In fact, America has harsher sentencing guidelines than most of western civilization, especially England, Canada and Germany, for example.

Our government is run by a bunch of whack jobs. Only in America to we persue criminals after the fact on the third or forth run. Perhaps we should take some initiative like Japan.
