Wooooooooow! Dakota Valkyrie thank you to you I apoligize for the apple statement, to the rest it still stands. Tricia1971 We do live in america and if you haven’t noticed there’s more than one culture, with more than one languauge being spoken. I don’t consider the language neither thuggish or filty it is apart of my culture and is how I speak to my peers…oh and I use proper english round people like u LOL!!! I wasn’t defending him, WRYBREAD asked if anyone knew what Randy was saying or trying to say so I broke it down for him. Now as for as the news people where Im from don’t talk much to the news or police ya see our witness protection isn’t the best in the world so u may end up dead for talking. As she said she felt safe in that area which could be why she is talking and also given the situation. Maybe you should start actually reading the post instead of reposting and commenting on what you feel is worth typing abou. May I ask what was fantasy about my post? LOL some people I tell you. Can I also ask where you are from cause alot of states are now getting a little taste of our girl KATRINA. I bet you were one of the one’s who didn’t give a f+++ when it happened. I was here working as a deputy sheriff and witnessed alot during does days being stuck in this city… So Beyotch I would slap the taste out ya mouth for such disrespect. Calling names is one thing, but you crossed the line. Alot of lives were lost that day and I could’ve lost mine. So don’t go there. Now that’s what I call pissed off wooo! Glad to have gotten that off my chest.

Strap-up can mean a number of things and heres two 1. strap-up= tie ya shoes to fight or 2. strap-up=make sure ya got ya gun. Now Randy was referring to the 1st definition of strap-up. Since he did invite them to a physical altercation. Any way I think those kids are down here in th N.O. At least I pray they are. OR god forbid the grandma said something bout oweing someone and them taking the kids, mom said something to that effect too, so there’s the case. Their using the news to plead with those that have them to bring them back which could result in snitching as it’s referred to. Im just saying coming from a criminal justice major.

People all worked up again over unsupervised kids?

*Sigh*, it’s a battle that I’ll never hope to win.

The world is safer than it’s ever been, yet we feel increasingly compelled to watch our kids like hawks.

If that’s not media influence, I don’t know what is.

All over the nation, be it rural towns or urban ‘hoods, kids around this age are allowed to play unsupervised, often so long as they are in yelling distance. Children under the age of 11 only make up about 20% of those abducted. In ‘99, this equated to about 11,000 kids out of over 70,000,000, or .0001 percent of children. Source

Our stories illustrate that, even if a parent is within “helping” distance, that is no guarantee. The statistics illustrate that you are much more likely to lose a teenager to abduction, yet you give them far more freedom. What gives?

I have lots of childhood memories that my parents don’t cameo in and I’m thankful to have had them. Don’t let negative media perpetuate unwarranted paranoia.

People like me? People like me is someone trying to raise children to be respectful, smart, and successful.

I am from the Houston area. I would like to say that when Katrina hit, I volunteered at the local fire station which took in evacuees. I actually fostered a family’s 2 dogs and birds while they were waiting for assistance for 6 months. I still keep in touch with them to this day. I would also like to say that I am originally from Oklahoma and I attended a predominately black HS. When I was growing up there was no “cultural dialog”. If you honestly think that it’s classy to talk that way, more power to you. That ought to go well with your interview at McDonald’s.

Btw, if I lived somewhere I had to worry about what I said in fear of being killed, I’d move. You ought to be proud. I’m glad that this story drew you into the website but have you posted here before?

I’ve got to say, as far as the “dialect” associated with black culture, people who speak that way only do a disservice to themselves (of course, as we know, that speech is not limited to black culture). Yes, different cultures do things differently, but especially considering the numerous problems associated with the black population, embracing communication that makes one look ignorant isn’t a logical move. Of course, the “stop snitching” campaign associated with urban culture is a load of shit, too.

Wow Shonnie99, for someone who has worked as a sheriff’s deputy, you sure have very little faith in Law Enforcement.

And these people are in Pasadena, TX. They are alive and well. This has very little to do with Katrina, other than the fact that they were displaced by it in the beginning.

Anyway, what father in their right mind would tell the mother of his children to move on, that the kids were probably dead AFTER ONLY 3 DAYS??? Most parents of missing or abducted children will not give up that easily after YEARS.

Well Kathy, when I mentioned KATRINA it was directed at Tricia1971 for another hurricane should hit and the rest of her post not to speak on it in general. I do have little faith when you have a corrupt law department. Or the fact that my bestfriend lost her boyfriend to violence in Houston to some Houstoners who knew he was from here and FEMA was giving money so they decided to rob him and kill him. Now he can’t see his 2yr old son grow and with all the evidence an arrest is yet to be made. Some law enforcement. THe suspect and family are from New Orleans and settled in Pasadena after the storm.

I hardly consider Oklahoma the “north”. My kids DO NOT talk like that. Congrats on your children’s future. Keep them on the right track. Welcome to the forums, I guess.

I stated I don’t agree with your comments and stated my opinion. If you are offended, this isn’t really the place to be. These people on here can be ruthless sometimes.

Shonnie99 - So which law enforcement is corrupt? New Orleans or Houston? I’m from outside the Houston area and I had a family member killed in a botched drug raid. I still trust LE. I just make sure I know my rights and I do not hesitate to question authority.

I think the notion that this family was worried about “snitching” is ridiculous. I don’t care what culture you come from, people will usually put their children’s lives ahead of their own…unless they have something to hide that would incriminate THEM.

I’m afraid this man did something to those kids to get even with their mother. It seems he may have been abusive. Abusive men tend to be controlling and possessive. He knew that hurting the kids would hurt the mother the most.

To be honest Kathy I really don’t think so and hey I could be wrong. Watch all the videos on abc13.com especially the one of the grandmother who sounds as if she is talking directly to someone without saying names she showed emotion and yet not a tear fell and she was crying. then go back and watch videos of the mom, who also sounds like she’s talking directly to someone.

Okay, let’s take the possibility of abduction out of the equation.

Do you have children? Do you know how fast three year olds run? Do you know that three year olds have the attention span of a gnat? Do you know that seven year olds only have an attention span that’s SLIGHTLY better?

I know of NO seven year old that is capable of caring for a three year old.

What happens when that seven year old sees a cat running towards them and starts playing with it? Will the three year old follow? Will the three year old run into the parking lot without looking for cars first?

Thanks, but I’ll take away their freedom to make sure they’re safe any day.

Also, did you ever think that the world is “safer than it’s ever been” because parents DO watch their children like hawks?

from an update at the Houston Chronicle:

Police today said they were searching for a wooden chest and a suitcase that had been seen in Sylvester’s apartment.

Capt. Bud Corbett said witnesses told police they saw Sylvester carrying the suitcase from the area of his apartment to his car Sunday afternoon at the Sandridge Apartment Homes, 4025 Burke. They said the wooden chest that was in his apartment as late as noon Sunday was not there about 4:30 p.m.

Corbett said the black chest is 18 inches high, 30 inches wide and 16 inches deep. It has a red star sticker on the lid and is scratched, he said.

The suitcase is dark-blue canvas with black trim, Corbett said. It is about 40 inches long, 20 inches wide and 18 inches deep.

Sylvester has been only sporadically cooperative and has told investigators he doesn’t know anything about carrying the suitcase, or that it and the trunk were missing, Corbett said.

Randy Sylvester Sr. has been at the crime scene, which is a body of water at Burke Crenshaw Park in Pasadena. He was with police and there is speculation that he has told police that the children were dumped into the water in the chest and suitcase. Dive teams will be resuming their search there at dawn.

Sylvester met with New Black Panthers leader Quanell X this afternoon and rumor has it that X was talking to Sylvester about confessing. Just noting.

    WELL, well…

Where is the ever defensive “shonnie99″ not that the shit has hit the fan???

These asshats violence has ZERO to do with a freakin’ natural disaster and more to do with the fact that they are just crappy human beings. Apparently a lot of crappy human beings ended up in NO and apparently that was a place that accepted crappy human beings and violent behavior.
The only thing Katrina did was spread out the crap all over the freakin US- Particularly the south. AND yes I am from FL and have survived MANY hurricanes and have never seen my city/ state spread so much filth and violence when being offered help. Morales were down and many people had very little left, but Everyone came back and boosted each other up.
Now I have lived around the ATL for over a decade and have never seen the nasty-ass violence that happened after these criminals from NO showed up here. The government doesn’t OWE anyone after a natural disaster–people CHOOSE to live by beaches, rivers, and levees and those things eventually occur. (Flood maps actually explain that there is a 1 in 100 or 1 in 500 year chance of these occurrances!)
It isn’t where ya live, it’s the choices you choose to make while you are there.
This father had a choice and it had ZERO to do with where the hell he was from or what he had been through.

Sylvester met with New Black Panthers leader Quanell X this afternoon and rumor has it that X was talking to Sylvester about confessing. Just noting.

Quanell X — now there’s a real POS from what I’ve read. Daddy turning to him for advice tells me a lot.

As for the Mom. I don’t believe she was on the balcony watching and went inside for a few minutes. I think she was inside and came out once in a while to visually relocate her kids. That sounds much more like human nature.

Shonnie, you may think that you can command proper English when speaking to people “like us,” but you’re wrong. Your situation is similiar to when teens come on this site and try to write their best English so we believe they are adults — it just doesn’t work. The skill level descends as the post progresses. It’s very clear to me that you use dialect all the time and have a limited command of standard English.

If you’re happy with the idea that your kids won’t stray from your subculture in America, then fine. Everyone can be happy in their own kettle of soup here, even if its dialect nearly guarantees being on the margin of mainstream society. But standard English is the language of mobility; it gives a child options. Raise them speaking “gangsta” and they’ll not have those options.

I’m surprised you come to a crime site, where people demonstrate every day how much they care about vicitims and you accuse someone of not caring about Katrina. It was agonizing to watch the people there suffer. Why would you throw that idea out to us, except that you’ve been watching tv and rejoicing that other people are suffering what your city suffered?

And I guess (because I could not really understand your posts) that you’re saying the mother and grandmother are using the national media to speak in indirect ways to each other and negotiate the return of the children. How did Granny snatch the kids from Texas to Louisiana? How crazy is it to use the national media for what could be done by a phone call?

Much more likely that BabyDaddy decided to end their lives. Whether he did this in a rage over something or it was more calculated, I don’t know. But anyone who challenges reporters to a fight may have a temper problem.

And I want to add that I hope I’m wrong. I hope those little kids are playing with Granny in New Orleans. Their poor mother who shows the expensive toys to prove she’s a good parent — I think she did try to be a good mother. If they aren’t all right, it’s going to be terrible for her.

Quanell X is basically a community activist. He gets involved in cases like this when minorities are involved. He is supposed to be offering his support and making sure people are not being taken advantage of for being un (or under) educated or the victims of racism.

I have some experience with him. He became involved when my cousin was killed in a botched police raid. Law enforcement doesn’t like him because he puts a magnifying glass on everything they do in these cases. He is a very motivating speaker and tells the truth alot of the times. He is also a media whore.

But if you want the media to be involved in your case, get him involved. It works.

One good thing about him being involved DURING the search is, they will not be able to scream racism or anything like that if the dad is found guilty. Quanell X is controversial, but he will never advise anyone to break the law and he seems to want to go after the truth. He just rubs people the wrong way because of his aggressiveness and his unapologetic tone.

Well that, and being Muslim and a member of the Black Panthers.

Well, I guess you guys can have your jollies on me today. I really do not know who the Black Panthers are. I’ll be expecting many “get out from under rock” and “where in the hell have you been?” comments. Sling’em fast, good and hard - we all need a good laugh today, I’m happy to oblige. :)

Pooh, the Black Panthers have a long history in this country. They were very active and influential during the 1960s. It’s a lot of ground to cover. Go to something as basic as Wikipedia and search for them - you’ll get the basic background info you need to understand who they are and what they do.

I am not familiar with this particular dude, so I will be searching for info on him to read more about his particular methods and goals.

“Quanell X — now there’s a real POS from what I’ve read. Daddy turning to him for advice tells me a lot.”

That is so true Wrybread. I live in Katy just outside of Houston. The strange thing here is the cops went to qball ten for help. But as a rule he is divisive and a true blue racist. here is a quote from him that just shows it to be true.

“if you feel that you just got to mug somebody because of your hurt and your pain, go to River Oaks and mug you some good white folks. If you’re angry that our brother is put to death, don’t burn down your own community, give these white folks hell from the womb to the tomb.”

    here is another one:

“I say to Jewish America: Get ready knuckle up, put your boots on, because we’re ready and the war is going down. The real deal is this: Black youth do not want a relationship with the Jewish community or the mainstream white community or the foot shuffling, head-bowing, knee bobbing black community. All you Jews can go straight to hell.”

I read all of the posts on this thread and I can tell you one thing Shonnie99 is in the minority(no pun intended). I am a white middle aged conservative Christian male and I am married to a very conservative Christian black woman. We have two children the oldest is 17 and is my stepson. He is a very well spoken young man. He does not listen to rap/hiphop he does not hang out with wannabe gang members and is a very gifted award winning cello player. The way I and my wife see it is if you have to talk ghetto to communicate with friends then you have the wrong friends, simple as that.

Thanks Ruby. I was just wanting a quick overview of them. I’ll research them another I time. I really was just wondering how they got all up in this man’s business to begin with.

Hmmm…I’m not so sure Quanell X hasn’t encouraged law-breaking in some of his speeches, although maybe that was just rhetoric, for effect. And as a Catholic, I can’t say that I’m that wild about the Pope being called a “no-good cracker.” However, I have never met the man personally, and I understand that much of what one might read about him on the internet comes from parties that are strongly biased, either pro- or anti- Quanell X.

In the big scheme of things, while I’m not sure he’s doing any good for race relations in America, if his involvement can help find the children (one way or the other), and help to ensure an air-tight case when and if the case does go to trial, then I applaud his involvement. Sometimes the immediate concerns outweigh the larger ones.

Damn, I feel sorry for the father’s mom. She seems truly distraught over what her son may have done to his kids:

Something about that guy looks like pure evil. What motive could he have? What would make someone do this?

Actually, I just read that the mom told police that the father had told her that the kids are dead, and to move on, and I think he attacked her too on Monday night. So maybe she really didnt know…. Time will tell

Ceronius- If you are gonna quote wiki, quote it all.

On January 28, 2008, after taking a tour of the Holocaust Museum Houston, Quanell said he became enlightened and apologized for his past statements on Jews.

“I seek the forgiveness of every survivor who has heard the words I’ve said. I did not say them in the proper manner to make the point I was trying to get across. I can see and understand how they might be utterly paranoid (of) a person such as myself.”

He has been challenging those within the community that sympathize with Osama bin Laden.

And alot of his rally against the whites has been rhetorical…at least from when I heard him speaking. Basically stop all this black on black crime, go mug a white person and see how differently the crime is treated by law enforcement.

Anyway, when I was told by my sister that he was going to be involved in the protests, I had a FIT. I’m not going to lie, but when I heard him speak and advise everyone how to properly protest and what they could do to LEGALLY show their displeasure with the state of things, I was impressed. He also encouraged the youth of the community to get their educations and participate in elections if they really wanted to see change. This was AFTER fires had been set to a couple of places to protest the shooting. He said the latino community and the black community had to fight together in my hometown.

But yeah, white people hear his name and GROAN. LE and politicians listen and the minority community seeks him out when they feel like they have no other alternative.
