Pike Creek / New Castle, DE - When Desiree Hogan violates a restraining order, she does not jack around, y’all. On Thursday evening, Hogan, 38, crept up to the back door of her ex-husband’s house and tried to get her 13 year old son to let her in. When the boy wouldn’t open the door, Hogan pulled out a gun and shot her child through a window, hitting him in the shoulder.
Hogan and her ex-husband had been in court earlier on Thursday over the protective order against her. The order was placed to keep Hogan away from the couple’s four children, who she had allegedly threatened before. Based on her behavior, the judge ordered that the protective order remain in place for the time being. According to police, Desiree Hogan “was distraught” at the outcome of that hearing.
So Hogan headed over to the ex’s house to find that her thirteen year old son was the only person at home. His father was out with the four year old, and the other two kids were out elsewhere for the evening. So the kid got nervous when his mom came up to the back door and started demanding to be let in. He wouldn’t let her in, and was getting ready to call 911 when the crazy bitch shot him. A few inches over, she would have killed her child.
The injured boy ran bleeding out another door of the home and escaped through a neighbor’s yard. He was picked up by a pizza delivery guy who happened to be driving by. The pizza guy got the boy into the car and drove him a short distance to safety, then called police. The boy was taken to the hospital, where he was in stable condition.
In the meantime, Desiree Hogan fled to her cousin David Hartsell’s house, where she was surrounded by police. The officers tried to talk her down while she stood on Hartsell’s porch with the weapon held to her mouth, and then to her head. Hogan asked police to shoot her, and asked if she had killed her son. After some twenty minutes of negotiations, Hartsell got tired of waiting, opened his front door and tackled Hogan. The gun discharged and shot through Hartsell’s front door, but missed hitting any people.
Hartsell said he initially felt bad for Hogan. In the last few years, he noted, she’s lost her mother, her marriage, her kids, and a son, Liam Allen Hogan, who died at the age of 20 months in 2001. Not to mention a really, really nice house (see pic below).
But as Hartsell said, “What’s going through someone’s mind when you shoot your 13-year-old son?” Um, I’m gonna take “total train wreck” for $500, Alex.
Desiree Hogan was arrested, but then sent to Wilmington Hospital for a psychiatric hold and evaluation. When Hogan gets out of the psych unit, she will be charged with attempted murder, possession of a deadly weapon during a felony, second-degree burglary and violation of a protection from abuse order. I’m hoping her son never has to see her again.

It shouldn’t take to long for her to kill herself, unless she is to selfish!

Jun 15, 2008 at 9:13 am -Well, she used to be beautiful. Now she isn’t. I think it’s very, very hard for women who have been celebrated for their beauty to slowly be rejected as time passes. I think it can make a woman crazy, particularly when she loses everything at once: home, family, status.
Not that I’m excusing shooting your own son, just trying to make some sense of this mess.

Too often in a divorce, the father abdicates and leaves his kids with their mother even if she’s a crazy bitch because he just doesn’t want to deal with them. Conventional wisdom used to encourage this by holding that “a mother would never harm her children”. Well, we all know how true that is.
