UPDATE 6/11/08 – Nicole Ganguzza has been found dead.  Her body was located in Blanchard Park, and there are possible similarities to the East Side Rapist serial rapes from 2006 and 2007. Nicole Ganguzza, 26, has not been heard from since Tuesday evening when she went to Blanchard Park to jog. Her husband notified police and a search was launched at 9 p.m. An airboat and bloodhounds were brought in to aid in the search. Her car was found at the park and detectives have collected a running shoe they believe belongs to her. Oh, the park she disappeared in? A serial rapist was targeting white women who jogged there about a year ago.

She was last seen wearing a white tank top with black shorts that had a white stripe. She is described as having brown eyes, brown hair, weighing 130 pounds. She is 5 feet 4 inches tall. She is a University of Central Florida master’s student in the program of Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling. It is being reported that sex crimes investigators, homicide investigators and missing persons investigators are currently at the scene.

Mister Phoenix, thank you for the information. It must be very hard to have been so close to the crime scene and to have known the victim. Is there any pattern of the timing of these attacks, do you know?

A 19-year-old taken into custody late Thursday who apparently fits the description of the "east-side rapist" will be questioned in the case of a slain jogger. Late Thursday, sex crimes detectives arrested Clemente Garcia , 19, for a rape that happened in October of 2007. DNA was recovered in the case and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said it returned a match linking the rape to Garcia. In the 2007 case, the victim was walking to a friend's home around the Econ Trail when she as raped and beaten in an area near the Colonial Pointe apartments.

    Hope this is the guy...

I have been jogging and roller blading this trail for 8 years. I saw Nicole often and wished her a good morning. My son and I were fishing just last week near where she was found. I am deeply disturbed by the chain of events. Not wishing to place blame, but after two previous attacks, I expected to see a police presense, police on bikes, community patrol officers, nothing sadly. Because of recent evening storms, I have not been jogging in the evenings. Now I want to be there every evening just in case this freak shows up again looking for a victim. My female room mate often walks at night alone. I hope she takes notice and is a little more careful now. It is a sad sick world in which we live. Please be safe!

Ahhh fuck that is horrible, dammit. I hope they find the prick who did this deed.
  • Uh, this lady is not “white”… so if that’s who was targeted by the serial rapist, then there has to be another story.

Usually in cases like this, "white" means "not black". I don't think a serial rapist takes the time to quiz his victim of their ethnic background to find out if he is about to pounce on a Hispanic, or a tan white woman.

But the fact that this park had a string of rapes before, does not mean that it is the same person (even though I am pretty sure no one was arrested for those crimes), but it is definitly worth noting.

Fuck!!! So unfair! Yeah I know life isn't fair. So much life yet to live. Sad. It pisses me off too. I am sure we will find it to be a sexual assault with murder. Blahhhhhh.

She was found deceased this afternoon...

Dozens of deputies, other law enforcement personnel and bloodhounds scoured Blanchard Park Wednesday searching for the UCF graduate student, who disappeared after going to the park for a run at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Upon hearing the news from law enforcement officials some time after 5:30, a group of people who reporters assumed were family members began hugging and consoling each other.

The woman was found shortly after 5:15 p.m. behind a Post Office along a trail near Blanchard Park in East Orange County. Sheriff's spokesman Carlos Padilla confirmed it was Ganguzza. Detectives are gathered in a wooded area by the post office on Econlockhatchee Trail.
