Shavon Riva Higgins and Ruby Marie Bonds
Mobile, AL - It’s not that hard to figure out, people. You’re going to Wal-Mart, perhaps to buy all the pseudoephedrine the pharmacy will sell you. It’s ninety degrees outside. Do you: A.) take the kids with you to use as a diversion, B.) Take the kids with you and tell them to sit on the bench and stay put; or C.) leave them in the car in the parking lot in direct sunlight with the windows down a bit? If you guessed “C”, then you are probably Shavon Riva Higgins or Ruby Marie Bonds. ‘Cause that’s what they did on Saturday.
Fortunately, both the seven year old boy, Colton, and his four month old brother Jeremy survived, thanks to a couple of passersby. Colton got very hot and sweaty and got out of the vehicle. He went into the store to try to find Higgins, who is the boys’ mother, and Bonds. Colton was overheated and crying when witnesses found the child and went back outside with him to check on baby Jeremy.
By the time the random kind strangers got out to the car with Colton, another couple heard baby Jeremy screaming in the car, where he was strapped into a carseat with sun beating down on him. A man removed Jeremy from the car and put him into his own car with the air conditioning on in an effort to cool the baby off.
Police arrived and were on the scene for about fifteen minutes before Higgins and Bonds came back to their vehicle. Fire department responders had also arrived by that time and checked out the children. Presumably neither Higgins or Bonds had the good sense to be grateful that Higgins’ children didn’t die, what with them getting arrested and all.
Shavon Riva Higgins was charged with child endangerment, driving with a suspended license and three violations for expired and improper tags. She was booked into the Mobile Metro Jail and made her $2200 bail later that evening. Ruby Marie Bonds was charged with child endangerment and also made her $1000 bail, so hopefully one or both of these lovely ladies can come explain to us why they thought it was cool to leave a baby and a child in a hot car for almost an hour.

Jun 10, 2008 at 9:11 am -Wow, Imp. We posted to Hot Car Baby stories at the same time. I guess this may be the new theme of the site for the next few months.

Jun 10, 2008 at 9:21 am -I was kinda going for a theme day, since we’ve had about five of them in the last day or so. (insert eyeroll here).
It’s just lucky in this case that the kids weren’t killed or abducted.
Here’s a pic of the boys, courtesy Mama Riva’s Myspace. Would you leave these little guys in a car in the heat? Yeah, me either.

Doesn’t Ruby look pissed like she’s thinking, “They’re HER kids, why am I in trouble?
Shavon — “Oops! Should have taken that mothering class.”

“TIME TO GET REAL AND SAY BYE TO ALL THOSE WHO R IN UR WAY”
Wonder if the kids were in her way?

forefivehead. Christ, she looks like an alien from Star Trek… probably from the planet Methulon.7

Jun 10, 2008 at 11:27 am -What cute little boys! I have two myself 4yrs and 9 months and I could not even fathom leaving them in sweltering, hot car. Here in central TX we started our summer temps in May with several 100 degree days. The last 23 days have been 90+. I am NOT looking forward to the POS that will do this kind of thing with their precious cargo.

Jun 10, 2008 at 11:43 am -Thank goodness both boys were saved.
Sorry, but I have to ask, “Is that one pictured on the right, really a woman?” When I first saw their pictures, I was thinking dumb bitch and her skinny, methed out boyfriend. Then I read the title and names.
I know we have said repeatedly not to judge by mug shots, but damn, is that really a woman? In that picture up above, there even appears to be a “5 o’clock” shadow. WTH?
You know, it doesn’t seem this site is reaching the dumbass parents who would leave their children in a hot car. It is my hopes, that we are reaching the general public (that do possess and actually operate their brains) and that more people will get involved when they notice small children left alone in a car.

Jun 10, 2008 at 11:17 pm -I was being ironic because it seems that so many of these people or their friends have time to surf the web and post. And I’m not impressed because many people admit they “made a mistake” when they get caught.

Jun 11, 2008 at 9:00 am -If this whole thing was over a birthday present, why did both women have to go in the store? The friend could have stayed outside with the kids while mom bought the gift, so I call bullshit on mom’s story. I think that they both went in so they could take turns buying cough medicine (is that what they make meth out of?) in order to get twice as much. There are rules now about how much cough medicine one person can buy at a time, aren’t there?

I want her clock so I can do shopping in 5 minutes. There are other things that I’d use it for… like cleaning bathrooms.

PUT DOWN THE PIPE!!!
Of course the nasty-ass chemicals and shit you inhale and shoot into your body couldn’t possibly have made the only existing brain cell you share with each other not function…
I am SOOO sure you are a great mother…In that fucked-up-backwoods-redneck meth-smokin’ world you brought those innocent children into.

Jun 11, 2008 at 1:50 pm -So the four month old isn’t her son but her brother’s son. Wow, if my family did that with my little boy I would disown them. Oh wait a minute, we aren’t that stupid!

Jun 11, 2008 at 3:47 pm -Why do birthday presents HAVE to be a surprise?
It must be something I just don’t get. My kids are going to hate me, because I’m going to be like, “Alright, honey, it’s hot outside. Come in and pick out a present.”
OR…
If I’m with a friend and kids and I really, really want the present to be a surprise, I’ll be like, “Hey, do you mind hanging out here with the kids and the windows down while I run inside?”
The options for this situation are unlimited. But, these two dogs look like meth addicts, to me. That shit puts holes in your brain.

Jun 13, 2008 at 6:49 am -I am really surprised that the man who got the baby out and put him in his car didn’t get in trouble also. If a man can go to jail for playing outside with his own child (but stupidly forgetting sunblock)- then it wouldn’t have surprised me that a stranger that was trying to keep a baby from roasting to death in a car would have been arrested also. Being as how fair and just our whole judical system is .( sarcasm insterted here) Seriously I am glad there was nice people trying to help those children and not just walking by looking the other way. These stupid people that leave their kids in cars wouldn’t keep their asses in a car that was over a 100 degrees but they don’t care if their kids fry.

Sep 20, 2008 at 3:22 pm -KUDOS to the passersby!!! Atleast SOMEONE in that town has BRAINS in their heads that have NOT been destroyed by DRUGS!!! I HOPE she gets those ADORABLE boys taken AWAY from her FOREVER!!!! I bet that this is NOT the first time she has left her children in a parked car ALONE, nor will it be the LAST time, IF she is allowed to get her children back!! Some people just should NEVER have children!!!!
