Even if a child isn’t part of the equation, using your purse as a holster isn’t a good idea, especially if the gun’s safety device isn’t engaged. (I’m guessing that if a four year-old managed to shoot herself, the gun’s safety was off).

Some models don’t have safety “devices” per se. They are not made with them. Instead they rely on the fact that a child isn’t supposed to be able to pull the trigger hard enough to pull back the pin and make the shot.

Hey! I was only 27! But to be serious about this, I think more often than not the kids should stay home and not go shopping. Danger of carts aside, I have seen the most hideous melt-downs of children who were just frustrated to breaking point by being surrounded by merchandise and not being able to put things in the cart, too.

Also, my dad was a gun dealer and had a permit. Nowhere on that permit did it say that it was a good idea to have it loaded around children. He thought it was OK till one day my 3 year old son found it in a book in his living room. When we discovered he had it was when he it was pointed at my 8 month pregnant belly!!!

Once again, shopping carts are dangerous for any child past the age of toddler.

On the defense of the 4 yr old in a cart. Hell my 15 yr old would get in a cart if she could! But, on average it probably wasn’t laziness on Grandma’s part to be honest. Perhaps they had been shopping all day and the little one got what we call “Lazy Legs”; there is nothing wrong with the kid in the cart IMO, if the child understands that she isn’t supposed to be standing up and stuff. Mind you, I am thinking the front Seat thingie on carts, not the back of the carts.

I loved sitting in the cart and was very angry when I was told I had finally become “too big” to sit in the little seat. And I was only 27!

However my understanding of a Conceal and Carry Permit is that they are allowed to carry that weapon anywhere EXCEPT a Government Building, School, and Court. I might be wrong. So Sam’s Club is hoping that people overlook that fact?

You also can’t carry in places that sell or serve alcohol or any place that post proper signage stating that you can’t carry there. Most places that post signs don’t do so correctly.

As I understand it, the sign must state the regulation name and number to be legal.

I believe you also can’t carry in places of worship.

I don’t have a permit, so I don’t know all the rules and regs.

There are all sorts of dangers they can get into at that size and age. The only reason that I can think of is that the adult was inconvienced. Next time the judge should think of someone other than herself.

I wan wondering what kind of lazy ass had the kid stuffed into that little seat…One who didn’t want to have to chase her all over the store. Me? I buckle my closed purse into the seat, and MAKE my kid hold the side of the buggy and walk. She needs the excercise!

I sort of imagine the girl bringing it up as a joke and Grandma uncomfortably chuckling, but really feeling very sick at what she did. One of those “do you have to bring that up all the time” stories.

I see kids rummaging in their mother’s purse (or anyone else’s) all the time. There should be nothing in there more lethal than a candy bar.

Well, when the girl is grown up, she and Grandma can laugh about how Granny tried to kill her. It will make quite a family story. I think Grandma needs to take up karate and forget the guns.
