NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - A police officer was approached by a woman at around 1:30 am telling the officer that she had just been assaulted by her boyfriend. The officer noticed that the woman had discolorations on her face and neck. Her boyfriend, Marquis Lee, 26, then walked past carrying the couple’s 10-month-old daughter. When the officer attempted to make an arrest, Lee took off running…but not before tossing the infant at the police officer.
Lee was caught anyway, and when police went to the couple’s apartment, they found a 3-year-old who had been left alone. Lee is now in the Newport News City Jail charged with assault and battery, resisting arrest, child abuse, child neglect and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The 10-month-old was not seriously injured.
Oh yeah, while gathering info for this story, I usually always like to check out the comments section for any insight or rumors. In this particular case, Richard Harris from Norfolk, VA left this comment over in the topix.net forums.
“So what is so suprising – he just doing the “it takes a village” East End approach to child care. Typical African American male approach to children. In fact there’s probably an annual competition for who can throw one the greatest distance.”
Racist? Sure. Funny? I thought so. The visual of that competition made me laugh.
