Women are taught to “be nice” to where it kills them. Stalkers think that civility means they might have a chance, and so they keep trying. And trying. And trying. Eventually they think the other person is just playing games with them and get angry. It’s better to cut them off at the knees the first or second time they approach.

The best thing I have found is polite avoidance, but I know this won’t work all the time. Young women are targets and it comes just at the time that they have no experience with which to shape a response. I wish some of these “tough” girls who come on here were a little less assured of their ability to handle everything. They are way out of their league once they start dealing with real life evil and their posturing here proves they don’t have clue about it.

Jun 3, 2008 at 10:50 am -wrybread that was good advice to women. You can also buy childproof window openers (I forget what they are actually called) They make it so you can only open a window so far, easy to install and quite effective in keeping people from opening your windows. Now should there be a fire al one needs to do is flip the latch and the window can be opened up. Also ask your landlord if you can install two deadbolts, one near the top of the door, the other near the bottom. That makes it harder to kick in a door, one deadbolt near the door knob is not enough. never arrive home at the same time, and if you walk alot take different paths. If hallways or the door areas are dark ask for more lights to be installed.
Now this final one might sound odd but I was told this one by a cop I knew. If you smoke when unlocking your building door keep a lit cigarette in your hands. Most people to not think that that could be a weapon but a simple jab to a hand grabbing you or their face with a something burning might give you a few extra seconds to get away.

Her statement was not necessarily the result of jealousy. There are some girls, the “mean girls”, so to speak, who go out of their way to belittle and openly judge those deemed less than worthy. I was friends with a couple of them in high school and it was definitely more than perception. There are people out there who aim to come off as better than anyone else.
We’ll never know if that’s what happened, here. From our perspective and the perspectives of those she loved, it’s just a nice girl whose life was cut tragically short by a psycho. But, if her attitude could have played into it, it certainly gives us something to think about when someone passing us makes eye contact, or another driver let’s us into traffic.
Nice gestures of this variety are free, and they do pay out, generally.

Jun 3, 2008 at 7:46 pm -No one has said anything to give me the impression that she wasn’t a nice girl. Tiffany said “from looking at her myspace page”, but I saw nothing mean on her page. If anything, Tiffany’s page is the one that screams out “bitch”. Even Lisa telling him that he smells doesn’t mean much to me, considering that it’s coming from the psycho stalker himself. Although I know that what you guys are saying is possible, it just strikes me as unfair to imply that her attitude may have triggered him to kill her. And I mean no disrespect to anyone on here, you guys know I value all of your opinions and I love discussing things on these forums.

Jun 3, 2008 at 7:54 pm -Athena, I agree with you about the “mean girls”. I’ve known a few myself. I guess my beef with Tiffany is more of the fact that she spewed that mess on the myspace blog of a girl who can’t tell her side of the story. That really isn’t okay IMO. Besides, does anyone in their right mind really want to accept the crazy murderer’s word for the events that took place that day?? Maybe Lisa never said anything to him (or even looked in his direction). He did say that he had been thinking about killing someone. Maybe she was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Who knows? Then again - you know how “mouthy” young people can be… Only two people know what really happened that day - One is crazy and the other is dead.

Jun 3, 2008 at 10:15 pm -I agree with April. I think that this psycho would have come after her, comment or no comment just from how this guy’s interactions were described, including a friend of Lisa’s commenting about this guy bothering them during a visit. He could have possibly been delusional about the events of that day given that he was not on his medications and his mind was set on murder.

Jun 5, 2008 at 11:43 pm -You looked so beautiful on monday Lisa, Melanie took good care of you and redid your make up the way YOU would have wanted it done. You looked so peaceful, like nothing had ever happened. Melanie was in school today…she seemed ok, but everyone knows how much she is hurting, we are all hurting with her. I gave her a hug, though I know that’s nothing. I hope you can rest in peace and know you have people who are taking care of your sister, we all love her too! I know you can hear our prayers Lisa, we all miss you so damn much. So you may have said a word or two to that creep, but he shouldnt have been talking to you anyway to begin with. You didn’t deserve this Lisa, no one does. RIP darling you will always be “unforgetable.”

Jun 5, 2008 at 11:59 pm -Kimmershimmerz — You’re right. No one deserves anything like what happened to your friend. The guy who killed her should not have been out in society, on medication or not. There’s nothing I can say that will make things easier. But many of us here are thinking of you all and wishing this had not happened.

Jun 18, 2008 at 7:18 pm -It is unfortunate the need to state the obvious but our society has become so ignorant it is hard to believe they can even function let alone use a computer but here goes as a close friend of Lisa’s:
1. You are believing what the KILLER said and what the irresponsible journalist wrote. Lisa will never be able to tell her side of the story. My advice is for those who believe this sick demented killer version–SEEK IMMEDIATE HELP AS YOU ARE AS SICK AS HE IS!
2. You are using myspace as gospel about her life and making judgements about her. YOU DID NOT KNOW HER AT ALL! So therefore everyone who is speaking ignorantly about her must feel their own destiny should be met with a sicko like the killer. Because after all you are making rude comments about something you know nothing about except yours are true while Lisa’s are alleged by a sick demented killer.
3. Lisa was a kind, caring, compassionate young lady and what may have led to this sick tragedy was maybe she felt sorry for him while others shunned him. In his sicko mind that somehow might have made her a target.
4. I hope someday you will feel the same compassion you are showing for the loss of such a promising young life. Somebody who is very special to you might meet a tragic end and then they can be judged for having human traits and being lied about or sensationalized for the sake of the great all mighty dollar. I am sure all your family and friends are perfect.
5. FACT: LISA WAS NOT A GOLD–DIGGER! PROOF–EX-BOYFRIEND! FACT: LISA WAS NOT AN ALCOHOLIC! FACT: LISA WAS NOT AGNOSTIC!
6. Once again if you believe everything you read whether it out of the mouth of demented killers or what is posted on myspace, for whatever reason, I must offer this advice: SEEK IMMEDIATE MEDICAL TREATMENT!
7. Last by not least you did not know Lisa or her family so I will once again offer more advice as far as respecting her and her family: STFU!
