Titusville, FL - From the neck down, at least. Her three-month-old grandson got pretty hot himself, but not in a good way. Sandra Hayes, 47, is accused of leaving her infant grandchild in a locked car with the windows rolled up for over thirty minutes on Friday. In Florida. Y’all, it gets hot in Florida.
Hayes was at a car lot looking at vehicles. She got out of the car and locked her three-month-old grandbaby inside, in his carseat. Windows up, engine off, doors locked, outside temperature in the area of ninety degrees.
Grandma Sandra picked out a car to test-drive, went back to her car to retrieve her license (but not the baby) and then left the lot to test-drive the new vehicle. About ten minutes into the test-drive, Hayes reportedly panicked and drove back to the lot.
Police say it was probably an accident, that Hayes just “forgot” the baby inside the car. Which I might buy if she hadn’t returned to the car to get her license for the test drive. Titusville police spokesman Todd Hutchinson said that they got back to the car in the nick of time.
“Considering the temperature ..and considering the car was off and the windows were up, the baby was sweating profusely, with red skin, the baby probably did not have a whole lot more time left.”
Sandra Hayes was booked into the Brevard County Jail on a charge of child neglect, with bond set at $2500. She’s already bonded out, so maybe she’ll Google herself and we’ll see her here.

If that was really where Grandma had it, that’s also extremelyl neglectful, and makes it much harder to buy the “I forgot” excuse, esp. since she went back to her car to get her license.
On the other hand, if it wasn’t legitimate forgetfulness, why would she “panic” after starting the test drive?
She looks a little methy to me…

I don’t even know how you could forget your grandchild. Bitch must of been on drugs or something.

May 11, 2008 at 12:50 am -Oh a Nice Ending … I feel wonderful for this babies mother and daddy !!! God Bless you all.
This pisses me off, thinking about slaby from glen estese vice principal that killed her baby and no charge she is being paid under her contract until july 2009. Because no charges were filed and she left the baby in the car numerous times. in the donut shop lot. the school lot to under load the donuts two trips, back pass the window into drive the car to a parking spot for the day and back passed the window and for like 8 hours didn’t dawn on her she forgot to take her daughter to the sitters house… this just pisses me off when I see others being charged.
*** I think when it is hot *** leaving a window cracked is a terrfic idea even when no one in it.

You forget shit like your license, wallet, cell phone in a car ~ not a damn baby! Every time I see stories like this I just cannot get over the stupidity and selfish BS.

She appeared to be a responsible person back then when she concentrated on her job! However, she was somewhat “flirty” and a bit of an “airhead” when it came to “eye-candy” . Therefore, I do NOT excuse her actions in any way for neglecting to consider the importance of the life of her grandchild…how horrible Sandy.

And you know what? Thanks for not telling us to STFU. And for not telling us how people are innocent until proven guilty or equal until proven wrong or whatever.
So do you think she really just spaced it out and forgot the baby was in the car, or what?

May 23, 2008 at 8:11 pm -Even if she really did forget the baby (which I don’t buy for a second), the child was still her responsibility and almost died due to her neglect. I’m 9 months pregnant with my first child and my mother’s first grandchild. She’s been very excited and involved throughout the whole pregnancy but the first time she leaves my child in a car like that will be the LAST time she keeps him.
