Claremore, OK - Steve Lockler, Jr. married Roxann Marie Barnard in July, 2007 in Claremore, Oklahoma. Less than a year later, Roxann’s son Christopher Alan Barnard, 4, is dead. Steve Lockler allegedly punched the little boy in the stomach with a closed fist on Monday morning. Twice. Then Lockler beat Christopher with a belt while the child’s abdomen was bleeding internally. Soon after, Christopher stopped breathing.
At 11:20 a.m. Monday, Lockler called 911 from the family apartment. Of course Lockler didn’t initially say that he’d beaten his stepson to death. What Lockler first told police was that Christopher, ever clumsy, had fallen in the bathtub. Because as we know here at Dreamin’ Demon, it’s always the furniture and appliances that kill children.
Christopher Alan Barnard was pronounced dead on Monday at Claremore Regional Hospital. He was four years old. Doctors there said that Christopher died of blunt force trauma to the abdomen. The little boy showed other injuries that pointed to abuse.
Lockler told detectives that while he was babysitting Christopher, he became angry because Christopher had soiled his pants. He stated that he then punched Christopher twice in the stomach with a closed fist and beat him with a belt. That story, say investigators, is consistent with the fatal injuries suffered by the small, blond preschooler.
Steve Lockler goes by “JR”. His Myspace lists him as single, though he’s been married nearly a year, and his wife is sixth on a friends list largely populated by pay-for-porn models. He’s a 1999 graduate of Claremore High School (go Zebras!). His wife, Roxann Marie Barnard Lockler, has a private Myspace that hasn’t been updated for awhile. But while “JR” has no pictures at all, Roxann has one right on the front page: a little blond boy on a motorcycle.
Roxann Barnard Lockler hasn’t had it easy the last couple of years. Just a year ago, she got an Order of Protection for herself and Christopher against a man named Floyd Moore. Finances have been a problem for awhile, it appears, and she’s had other restraining orders against people in the past. Steve Lockler doesn’t seem to have much of a record other than a recent speeding ticket, so maybe Roxann thought she was getting a decent guy. Or maybe she looked the other way.
Steven Lockler Jr. was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Christopher Barnard. Lockler is being held in the Rogers County Jail without bond. I’ll be looking for better pictures and will post them as I find them.
UPDATE 5/05/08 - Roxann Marie Barnard, 26, was arrested today on a felony charge of permitting child abuse. Barnard allegedly knew about the abuse that her son Christopher was suffering at the hands of Steve Locker, and she chose not to do anything about it. DHS also has records of abuse reports about Christopher, but they continued to return him to his mother. Roxann Barnard is being held in the Rogers County Jail on $250,000 bond.

May 6, 2008 at 11:38 am -Gallows humor really flies right past some people, I’ve noticed. It’s like they’ve never been in a situation where you laugh or you kill someone, so you choose to laugh - not to make light of a situation, but to emphasize that yeah, it does suck.
Babies lying in shit are not funny, but a lot of times their parents are very, very funny. They probably also deserve a lead-pipe beatdown, but since we can’t personally offer that or even appear to condone it here, we laugh at the asshats instead, and cry for the kids where you can’t see us.

May 6, 2008 at 11:57 am -Let me just start by saying, I am just happy to see that justise will be served for this pressious little angel…he was such a great kid I enjoyed every minute I spent with him, I truly feel blessed to have known him!
I sat there in that church dumbfounded, looking at that full church of people that “care” so much yet no one could step in and help this child? I did all I could by calling DHS and informing them of the abuse, yet they decided to turn a blind eye on the situation. I want to know where in hell where the grand-parents? I know for a fact Roxann’s parents/family knew of the abuse! How come no one just took him from her they had the power to do that yet chose not to exercise that right. But I am not here to bash her parents or family. I know they love Christopher no doubt. I just hope in the future if they ever witness/know of any abuse they don’t hesitate to act on it and do the right thing. It’s just too bad Christopher had to lose his life for people to open their eyes!

Was Floyd taking Roxann to court for sole custody, do you know? It sounds like DHS was called and called and they kept returning Christopher to Roxann and Steve. Do you think her family would have had better luck? Did they hotline her at all?
That poor baby. I’m sure the funeral was just awful for you. I’m so sorry for your loss.

May 6, 2008 at 2:07 pm -I am just a close friend. But loved Christopher and Roxann like family, needless to say Roxann isnt on my “toplist” anymore and that too is painful, I not only lost a child I was very close to, I am now losing one of my very close friends.
As far as updates I have nothing right now but if I hear anything I will keep you posted.
As far as Floyd trying to get sole custody that is new news to me, or at least I never heard anything about it. When DHS was notified (8 times since 2004 facts givin to me by someone who works at DHS whom I cannot name.) they NEVER removed him from the home, I say that because you had implied by saying they kept returning him to her that they had taken him at some point NOPE THOSE jackasses never even followed-up. And her family could have at least tried to intervein, to my knowledge they never even confronted her about it.
It’s funny how this small town works everyone knows someone. There is no doubt in my mind that there was never any action taken because they (Roxann, Steven, His parents even) knew someone on the inside that let it all slide.

My step daughter had a baby at young age.
She left the state with her Grammy and proceeded to stay out all night leaving him in this old lady’s care.
I drove there, took him and never looked back. She would not have dared challenge me, she knew I was right, she didn’t get it, just couldn’t handle it.
For me to look the other way while any child were being abused, I would have to be deaf dumb and blind. Maybe even then I would know and act before any harm or neglect would be suffered by a child known to me.
The sentiments the dad offers about God. The family friend’s user name…. It all makes me so sad some people cling to God to make things ok.
God had nothing to do with any of this, monsters did.
God doesn’t need these abused babies to complete his kingdom folks.

I noticed he still has no head stone after almost two whole months…So I made few calls to find out what the deal was, only to find out the money had been raised (donated by a group of people), only for Roxanns mother to refuse to except it because this group of people are not supporting roxann (on her side). I am appauled by this!!! How dare she do that. It has nothing to do with Roxann or her, it is for Christopher!!! I don’t understand where her mind is. It just makes me sad.
