Sacramento, CA - Mauriel Mercado, 20, and her boyfriend Derek Garcia, 22, had some shopping to do Friday night. So they went to the mall, parked at Macy’s, and left Mercado’s two year old son in the car. With the windows up. For nearly an hour. Now they’re all upset and surprised that the toddler is in foster care and they got arrested. I know, right? What’s the world coming to when you can’t even cook your baby in public?
It was about 5:30 Friday evening when Mercado and Garcia left the toddler boy in the car. Initial reports say the doors were unlocked but the windows rolled up, but Mercado disputes that. She says the doors were locked, but “the sunroof was open”. Ohhh. Well, dumbass, that makes it all better - not. Anybody can still get your kid, and he can still be overheated when it’s nearly 80 outside. Idiot.
The little boy, who may be pictured on Derek Garcia’s Myspace page, set off the car alarm and was crying and sweating profusely when passersby got him out of the dark-colored Honda and called police after 6:00 p.m. See, Mauriel? They got him out. You didn’t. Luckily, a pedophile didn’t. Luckily, someone did or you’d have baby flambe’, but you were thinking about that new bra-and-panty set, or the new swim trunks for Derek, or whatever, weren’t you? Somebody within smacking distance slap her in the head for me, please? Thank you.
Mercado told reporters Monday that she loved her son, but that “It was a mistake, everybody makes mistakes,” she said. “It’s not right to make that mistake but I love him. Don’t judge me off of what you guys see on TV.” Um, especially since the surveillance video was released showing Mercado and Garcia being dumbasses in front of the world. Sucks to be you, I agree, but honestly? Sucks worse to be that baby boy.
Mercado and Garcia are already out of jail on bond, but are facing child endangerment charges. Mercado’s son is in the custody of Child Protective Services.

What exactly does that mean? Does it mean that the people who are basically good, but ‘just make a mistake’, should not be punished? But those who are “bad” should be punished? Thats fucked and there have been many reports of this all over the US and its a known fact that leaving your children in the car unattended for any reason is illegal. However its good to know that the boy is alive and will hopefully be placed with a loving family.
