Cincinnati, OH - Tiffany Valentine, 27, has seven children. On Wednesday night, she almost dropped that number to six when she left her ten-year-old son on the side of the interstate. Fortunately, passersby saw the boy and called police, who found the child at the entrance of U.S. 562 and I-71.
Valentine’s lawyer told a judge Thursday that the boy jumped out of the car himself. Valentine was apparently trying to take another child to the hospital, although why that child needed medical attention wasn’t made clear. Her ten-year-old son was “acting up” and got out of the car when Valentine pulled over. Rather than waiting to talk the boy back into the car, or catching him, the frazzled mother called her mother to tell her where the boy was and drove away, leaving the child on the side of the busy interstate. Her lawyer says she also called police to tell them she had left the child.
Passersby saw the child and called police themselves, and Valentine was arrested later Wednesday and charged with child endangerment. She was ordered on Thursday to have no contact with any of her seven children until after her trial on June 14, and is out on her own recognizance.
What say you, Denizens of the Demon? Was this a frazzled, upset mother who was choosing a sick child over an unruly one? Was this an act of a mom on her last nerve? I could buy that if she’d gone back for him, actually. But she didn’t, and was picked up sometime later. No word on whether she ever got the other kid to the hospital. What do you think?

Apr 25, 2008 at 8:33 am -I read a snippet about this one earlier this morning. I was wondering what her excuse was gonna be.
I’m thinking 1/2 frazzled mother…1/2 dumbass.

However; this was the interstate in Cincinatti, right? Which I’m sure is busy. I can totally see putting the kidlet out on the side of the two lane country road I live on, pulling away ever so slowly, and cackling in glee at the sight of her running and screaming after the car after it appears I might leave her. But to LEAVE your kid on the side of the INTERSTATE? Oh hell no. I would think police would be able to quickly prove whether or not she actually called the police to say where she left him, not that that would excuse her at all.
Plus, why did she pull off anyway? If she’s in such a hellfire fury to get a sick child to the hospital, you don’t need to pull off to try to calm down an unruly child..a “We’re going to the hospital anyway, don’t make me fuck you up too!” ought to do.

Apr 25, 2008 at 8:57 am -lol - very good point. Yeah she should have just “tuned him out” or what ever it took to get the sick child to the hospital. Then, I would have marched Mr Unruly back outside and my open hand would have had a much needed talk with his ass. I would have never just left him on and interstate - frazzled or not.

No matter what goes on in your life, and how unruly your kids are, you don’t put them in harm’s way, no matter what!!

Why waste time pulling to the side of the road when one of your other kids needs medical attention? Especially one who is obviously loved more than the mean one!…..Hell kids are pretty good at dodge-ball, and a car is much easier to see than that little ball the kids play with in gym class, so I don’t think the kid was ever really in any danger. I tell my kids to go play in traffic all the time, but it’s more fun for them when it’s rush hour….:-D
I think the mom should be given the opportunity to demonstrate to her son the proper way to play dodge-car, though. She really should have at least explained the rules of the game before just throwing him out there. I hear spaghetti junction in Atlanta is a really fun place to play….let’s take her there!

How in the world do you leave a 10 year old child on the side of an interstate, for all kinds of horrid things to happen to them - being ran over, the least of what tragedies could occur?

In some cases, sterilization should be mandatory..

Apr 25, 2008 at 3:11 pm -I’d say she was frazzled. But for me personally if my 11 yr old was throwing some damn fit, hell no I would not drop them off on the fucking interstate. I would of told them to shut the fuck up or face a goddamn punishment, sit back and let me get their sibling to the fucking hospital.
The sister definitely made a wrong decision. Her kid could have easily been hit on the Freeway. Those things are fucking killers. (Note Hippie hates cars and busy cities/highways).
Should her other children be taken away…..don’t know what their life was like up until this incident. If the mother is known for making asshat decisions on a repeated basis, perhaps some parenting classes would be indicated here.

Apr 25, 2008 at 3:41 pm -She’s an idiot. Still, I don’t think this is especially heinous. Not to say I condone it, but…
I could see driving a child to wherever, only for another of my children to throw a fit, pulling the ol’ “let me out!” routine. Stressed out and sick of hearing it, I pull over, “daring” him to get out of the car. He actually does. Completely fucking pissed at this point, I take off, fully intending to come back for him, but not immediately. I want this experience to scare him so that I don’t have to deal with it again.
Yep…not the route I would take, but I can totally see it playing out like that.

She looks subnormal. Just the kind of person gives us all so much by having put seven packages into our gene pool - thus far.

Apr 25, 2008 at 9:20 pm -I think you’re right, Athena. The whole hospital scenario was the “lie freely” reaction that some people have when they get in trouble. “Officer, uh, I was, uh, taking my other child to the hospital!” (Thinking, everyone loves a mom who takes her sick child to get medical care and everyone will forget about ten-year-old and admire me for being a good mom after I say this.)

Apr 26, 2008 at 5:34 am -While I don’t condone leaving the child on the highway, her thinking may of been that if she starts looking around for him while leaving the other six kids unattended, she was running the risk of having all her kids running around on the highway~!

Apr 26, 2008 at 7:56 am -I really don’t think she put even that much thought into it. I still think it was a spur of the moment, pissed parent, I’ll teach HIM, kind of thing. Not necessarily mean, or intentional bad parent shit, just irresponsible and stupid. She still needs to have the danger of the situation impressed upon her. And not going back? Idiocy!

Apr 27, 2008 at 9:52 pm -I wonder how all these kids are supported? It doesn’t mention a father in the picture. She doesn’t look bright enough to have a job that commands a big salary. She owns a car. She has a cell phone and a mother to call to pick up the kid cooling his heels by the road. That’s all we know. It’s strange to get these little snapshots of other people’s lives.

Apr 27, 2008 at 10:23 pm -“she doesn’t look bright enough…”?? How can you tell that, Wry? I try not to judge presentability or intelligence based on mugshots, because they invariably SUCK and are taken when folks is at their worst.
I join you in wondering about the family situation, though. Man, I cannot IMAGINE that many rugruts running around! I’d go batty! I’m so glad everyone is ok in this story, even if she did a dipshit maneuver!!

May 9, 2008 at 1:44 pm -How twisted is the system?
I find myself sympathizing more and more with this mother. Especially now that she’s being denied unsupervised visits with her children.
It’s dawned on me that every time I’ve seen a parent actually treated badly by the courts or DCFS or whomever, they’ve been good parents.
And every time DCFS walked away and ignored the problems, that’s when there were real problems.
So, if the system is against this woman, I find myself wanting to be in her corner.
How despicable is that?
(PS this does not change my opinion that she should NOT have driven off, but it does make sense why she might make a bad decision, being rushed to get back to the hospital for one, having one acting up, and having 5 others just to deal with. Talk about over-stressed.)

May 9, 2008 at 3:41 pm -Mugshots sure aren’t glamour photos, but on the other hand they do tend to convey an attitude and I look into this woman’s dull eyes and I do not see a bright, articulate, educated or self-educated person who is having a bad day looking back! But I should have said “appear to be bright enough” because it is her photo with her garbled story about the hospital — and her leaving a 10 year old on the side of a highway — that make me think she’s not of great mental ability. For the sake of her SEVEN kids, I hope I’m wrong.
