Update 4/21/08 - Elizabeth Edwards talked with me and several of our members in the forum chatbox tonight. Some of her comments are at the bottom of this article, as I promised I would present her side as well. Italicized quotes are unedited. Scroll down for details.

Pacolet, SC - Oh, look! A bruised-up baby! And stupid parents! What a surprise! I’m surprised. Are you surprised? Yeah, I didn’t think so. Today’s bad parents: Elizabeth Ellen Edwards, 19, and Bradley Scott Gossett, 21. Edwards and Gossett are accused of abusing their three-month-old daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Gossett. This time, though, at least the grandparents had some sense and called police.
On Friday, the grandparents went over to Edwards’ and Gossett’s trailer to see their granddaughter. When they got there, the baby had significant bruising to her face, and the grandparents - police don’t say which grandparents - got good and pissed. They took baby Sarah to the hospital for treatment and reported the injuries. Sarah was treated and then placed in emergency protective custody.
Police showed up at the trailer to investigate, and found the grandparents and Elizabeth Edwards in the middle of a shouting match. Edwards said that she didn’t cause Sarah’s injuries - they’d happened last Monday, and Bradley Gossett was watching Sarah all day while she was at work. That’s her story and she’s stickin’ to it.
Elizabeth Edwards has a Myspace. Her title is “Will I Ever Be Happy!” And the answer to her poorly-asked question is “probably not while you’re abusing your kid or letting her be abused, you idiotic skank.” There are pictures of Elizabeth and Brad; no pictures of their baby girl. No real mention of Sarah outside the “proud parent” designation. And it’s not like she never checks the page; her last login was Friday. In fact, I only found the baby’s name by searching online for birth announcements. So clearly baby Sarah is not such a priority in Elizabeth’s life. And if her story is true, then the baby isn’t such a priority for Brad Gossett, either. I guess it’s good Sarah’s gonna be living somewhere else for awhile.
Elizabeth Edwards and Brad Gossett were arrested late Friday and charged with child abuse; both were bonded out of jail late Saturday evening. Maybe they’ll come tell us what “really” happened.
Update, 4.21.08 - After Elizabeth Edwards, her sister, and her friend Kelly all showed up in our chatbox tonight, I got a chance to talk a little bit with someone who says she is Elizabeth (I was able to verify Kelly’s email and identity and Elizabeth’s email, so I am inclined to believe her.) Here’s her side:
Elizabeth says that she was at work when Sarah was hurt and that Brad is the person who hit Sarah, although “they didn’t say she was hit.” Elizabeth also says that she does love Sarah and she feels terrible about her baby being hurt. She says that her mother is the grandparent who took Sarah to the emergency room.
Further, Elizabeth said, “ I know that I faled as a mother but I will spend the reast of our lives together makeing her happy and making sure this dont happen again“, and that she didn’t understand that failing to get medical help for her daughter was neglect. However, she says she thinks she understands that now. She says she will get a visit with her baby on Tuesday.
Of the bruise left by Brad Gossett, Elizabeth says “I seen it and it diten look like a hand print to me. I was planning on leaving him that Friday anyways. He wasent being a father to her and I want the beast for my child. “
Thanks, Unamused Cat!

She changed her mind and speaks of lying to a boyfriend about being on the pill. So she knew she should have gotten on the pill and she knew that she was NOT ready to be a parent. She also speaks like she is unsure any of these guys are for real.
So with all that why lay up and get pregnant knowing it is not what you really want. not to mention she is not really all that smart from the way she spells and writes.
Mind you I am not a great writer but come on.
That poor little child would have been better of with the grandparents or adopted out or something.
I hope they find a real and loving home for her.
So many young women getting pregnant and not really wanting these kids why not place them for adoption instead of doing crap like this.

Its parents like this however, which make the some part so few and far between.

Apr 20, 2008 at 11:23 pm -Yes, babies having babies. Again however, just because they are young does not mean they couldn’t have been good parents. There are plenty of good teen mothers, those that learn and grow up… then those like this.

Apr 21, 2008 at 7:47 am -Well, Elizabeth Edwards is 19. But Brad Gossett is 21. Still, though, I managed to take perfectly good care of Impspawn I at a young age and many other parents do just fine as well. If you’re old enough to choose to have a child, you’re old enough to take care of the child.

Here’s how WikiAnswers explains it, spelling mistakes n’ all…
‘The only truly effective way to achive bright white eyes is to use drops containig a vascular constrictor. A vascular contrictor constricts all of the blood vessels in your eyes making them instantly sparkling white. The results are fantastic.
Congratulations, Brad. Apart from the child abuse, the wispy beard, trailer trash girlfriend and probable jail time, when it comes to eye-whiteness, you da man…

Apr 21, 2008 at 8:44 am -Being young parents is no excuse!
I had my daughter at 17 (pregnant at 16). I grew up real fast. She is well taken care of, fed, and DEFINATELY not abused!! I didn’t necessarily WANT to get pregnant when I did, but I owned up to it and love my child very much.
Being a young mother made me want to prove that those who think young parents are bad parents wrong!
There are plenty of abused children whose parents are grown adults, and many children who aren’t abused that are those of young parents.
Therefore, in my opinion, being young doesn’t make you a bad parent…if you learn and grow from it.

Apr 21, 2008 at 10:01 am -Even if she didn’t cause the injuries to that baby herself, she also sure as hell didn’t take the baby to the doctor to make sure she was OK either. Bitch. And Daddy Dearest? If he IS the one who injured the child, babymama should have taken the baby and left. Or locked his ass out. Or better yet, had his ass arrested! Both of these imbeciles need a fucking reality check.
Oh, and a good ass-whuppin’, too…

Apr 21, 2008 at 1:03 pm -The mom looks very, very depressed. Pathetically so. IF she didn’t do the abusing, she was probably too self-absorbed about her own problems to give a shit about her daughter when she was getting hurt.

Apr 21, 2008 at 1:16 pm -Elizabeth does look depressed, there is something missing in her eyes. It may just be a lack of intelligence, reading her blogs gives some insight, wow, ever heard of spell check? Or may she’s heavily medicated, who knows.
It really doesn’t matter cause nothing excuses child abuse.
Elizabeth may want to try Proactiv, it can’t hurt.

Apr 21, 2008 at 11:39 pm -Wow.. I couldn’t help myself.. I have to add to the comment list. Seriously… when will stupid people start figuring out that babies are not just toys. That their lives are not their own anymore… that they need to grow the fuck up and get their shit together. I did the exact same thing that Dasias_Proud_Mommy had to do, the same age. However my children are my number 1 priority in life and always have been. No matter what, I made sure that my kids were safe and taken care of. That was my choice to bring them into this world, not theirs.

May 15, 2008 at 1:49 pm -Amanda, if you want some attention you should just ask. See, news stories change here everyday, this was old news. Since you’ve opened the thread back up, long after anyone had stopped talking about your friend, we will be happy to continue to call names and publicly shame these abusive parents. Is that why you came here? Because that’s all you’re going to get.

May 15, 2008 at 2:04 pm -That girl just looks so sad and lost. I can’t help but want to mother her.
OTOH, If I did mother her I would have ended up with another grandchild to raise, which, on the other hand might not have been so bad.
I really do only have two hands btw.

May 15, 2008 at 2:06 pm -Hey, ya’ll, there’s some recent comments in her MySpace blogs. She says she knew her boyfriend for 11 months and he never showed any signs of “vilonets.” I personally haven’t come across many guys manifesting “vilonets,” and besides, I tend to be more concerned about violence.

May 15, 2008 at 3:07 pm -Sigh.
I feel so sorry for that baby girl. Her parents are abusive morons, and if our lovely guest is telling the truth, the grandparents are even worse.
I just feel at a complete loss for how the next generation is going to turn out - the current generation sure is doing a shitty job of raising them.

May 20, 2008 at 12:23 pm -I am telling the truth..I would not lie about it. The baby is my little cousin and I only want what is best for her. If Brad and Elizabeth go to jail..That is their fault for being irresponsible. I want Sarah to be safe..I definitely dont wanna see her with her Elizabeths parents.
