UPDATE 5/21/08 – New charges have been handed down by a grand jury in this case. Heaven Kristina Smith is now being charged with first-degree murder; Corey Bryant is now charged with felony homicide after new evidence was presented to the grand jury yesterday. Norfolk, VA – Heaven Kristina Smith, 21, is a fat porker who starved her ten-month-old twin daughters. Miracle Grace Bryant died on Tuesday, April 8, and her twin HeavenHeaven reviews
L. Bryant is in critical condition. Smith’s babydaddy, Corey Alan Bryant, 21, returned from a three-week deployment on Tuesday, arriving at home just in time to call 911. Now both parents are facing neglect charges, and Smith is charged with second-degree murder.
Sources aren’t clear on how long the infant girls were left without food, but Miracle Grace died at DePaul Medical Center at about 9:30 on Tuesday morning. Whether she was dead when she got there is unclear at this time. Little Heaven Bryant was transferred to the Portsmouth Naval Hospital that same day, where she remains critical.
Both Smith and Bryant are Navy sailors. Bryant is assigned to the guided missile cruiser USS Monterey, and had been out on a three-week deployment just before Miracle’sMiracle reviews
death. He arrived home on Tuesday morning, according to the Navy, and on seeing the children called 911 for help. Smith is assigned to Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base as a ship’s serviceman. Neither parent had requested help from the Navy’s Family Support Services, according to a Navy spokesman.
Miracle’s cause of death has been ruled a homicide by medical and nutritional neglect. Whether that starvation extended longer than the three weeks Corey Bryant was deployed will be very interesting to find out. To me, it kind of looks like a case could be made that Heaven Smith starved the babies while Corey Bryant was gone. Authorities, however, seem to see things differently, and they have charged both parents.
Heaven Kristina Smith is charged with one count of second-degree murder and two counts of felony child neglect. Corey Bryant has been charged with two counts of felony child neglect. After their arraignment on Wednesday, both parents are currently being held at Norfolk City Jail without bond.
UPDATE 5/21/08 – A grand jury handed down new, more severe charges in indictments yesterday against Heaven Kristina Smith and Corey Bryant in the death of one of their daughters.
The grand jury heard evidence that the family’s apartment was “piled up” with over 170 dirty diapers. That’s a lot of diapers. But far more disturbing was the medical evidence in the death of Miracle Grace Bryant, who died April 8 of starvation. Little Miracle, only ten months old, had no body fat at all when she was seen in the hospital the day of her death. None. Zero percent body fat. That goes far beyond inability to get help, or postpartum depression – that’s murder, and it takes a lot longer than a couple of weeks.
The grand jury agreed. Heaven Kristina Bryant is now being charged with first-degree intentional murder in baby Miracle’s death. Corey Bryant, Miracle’s father, is charged with felony homicide, which is a lesser charge that could include reckless homicide.
Their surviving child, Heaven Love Bryant, is in the care of Corey Bryant’s mother.
Heaven Kristina Smith and Corey Bryant remain in jail without bond.

I can’t speak for the navy, i’m an army wife, but they do let women in the army get fatter than the men. They have a different set of weight guidlines for them. Also, once a person gets fat, in the army, there’s a special PT. If that doesn’t work, then after a lot of paperwork they can be chaptered out. What I’m saying is you can ride along pretty fat for a while before anything happens to you for it….once again, this is the army, I don’t know about the navy personally.

Army vet here. There are weight limits, and as Carol 13 said you can ride the wave a bit. The Navy has similar limits, unsure if they differ. This is not far from where I live. We have numerous military installations in VA.

There are lots of jobs within the military which require specialized training, or continuing education. If the class or training mission is in another state, the soldier can be given ‘orders’ or ‘deployed’. Deployed is simply another way of saying that the soldier has been sent from his permanent duty station to another location to perform some task or service. It is sometimes called a TDY (temporary duty) station. A permanent change of location is called a PCS (permanent chance of station). Most short TDY assignments are not referred to as a deployment, but some are. When my husband flew the B-1 and J-STARS aircraft, he was frequently sent across the country on ‘training missions’. Most of these were only two or three day missions, but there were a couple which lasted two or three weeks. He was also once chosen to deliver some aircraft to Iraq, and pick up others which had been there for several months, and were due for routine maintenance. He was ‘deployed’ to Iraq (on paper) for one week, even though all he did was to fly one plane over, and bring another back. I hope I haven’t bored you too much with this explanation. I hope it helps to answer your question.

AF wife……there are weight requirements but after a woman has had a child they give her time to get back into shape. Sometimes the people above her will give her alittle bit more time out of sympathy.
she should have been back at work at the 6 week mark and the babies should have been in daycare on base. Even if the babies were not on daycare on base there is the 2 week, 2 month, 4 months, and 6 months check-ups at the hospital. someone should have noticed something.
Even if they did not ask for help from the Navy Support center, her superior should have been doing welfare checks on her just knowing that the husband is gone.

First of all, I don’t know how long it takes to starve a ten month old, mine’s only 6 months, and I like to feed her. The crying gets annoying when I don’t. Would three weeks kill, or not? I’m almost think he might be innocent, considering he called 911 when he got home and saw his girls weren’t right. She however is a fat bitch, and I agree with Angel, I hope she starves to death in prison. Even for the CO’s who still do bread and water, it’s too good for her.
He wasn’t TDY. The Navy uses the acronym TAD, temporary assigned duty or something like that, but he wasn’t TAD either. I’m sorry, but it’s really annoying me to see other branch’s terms used. His whole ship was “deployed” or underway. Ships will pull out from anywhere to a couple of days, to a month or longer doing work ups for the 6 month cruise, depending on what needs to be done, that’s why he was gone for only three weeks. I live in the area, so if I see anything new, I’ll post it.

She let that baby cry with hunger pains and waste away to the point that God finally took her into his arms because obviously Mommy didn’t. The same mommy that he blessed with that innocent baby.

The children’s injuries were discovered when they were taken to DePaul suffering from what police describe as “an unknown medical condition.”
Heaven Smith’s attorney requested and was granted a mental health evaluation for her client. Now, Ms. Smith will be evaluated for competency to stand trial and sanity at the time of the offense.
From what was told The babies couldn’t keep food down. It was not that Heaven wasn’t feeding them they kept throwing the food up. Yes yes omg go to the doctor and all that yes its easy to find fault and talk about it when its not you or somebody you know. the facts about why the kids weren’t taken to the hospital are not known to me. Heaven also suffered from depression.

I can pretty well promise you I’d be finding fault with my own mother if she pulled that shit. Depression? If she was so depressed she couldn’t call 911 for her kids, she probably couldn’t pick up a couple of bottles and feed them either.
There is NO excuse for not obtaining medical care for a sick baby. NONE. Heaven K. Smith wasn’t personally dead, therefore she could have gotten help. Even if what you say is true – that the children were vomiting and not holding food down – she made a choice, a decision not to act.
However, the fact that the father was charged indicates that police believe the babies were starved over more than three weeks. And you think it’s okay that this happened just because “Heaven was depressed”? That is some serious enabling, right there.
How about you puke for a few days, ask for help, and have someone tell you “no” and see how you feel about that. Or just don’t eat for a week or so and see how that works out for you. While you’re at it, you think about those poor babies, suffering for all that time with nobody to help them. But boy, Heaven looks well nourished enough.

My kids ALWAYS ate, no matter how shitty I felt. And when my babes were little, we also had severe, severe problems with reflux – but reflux alone will not cause starvation, because SOME stays down – *IF* they’re being fed.

In the Air force we had weight standards but since she recently gave birth she probably got a “hook up”. Maybe Navy is lenient. My two year old actually cries and then says “hungry” when he’s hungry and that brakes my heart. I can’t imagine how long it took for Miracle to have no body fat and put up with extreme hunger and weakness, thirst, suffering….What was in those 170 diapers if they didn’t eat? or did she give a miniscule amount of food or water to prolong their suffering? Yeah she’s a fat ugly monster, prison is too good for her. Her fat ass needs to be left on the Serran Getty at first light, let her suffer in heat and hunger until she dies or gets eaten! Make her vulnerable and take away her control, because those babies had to cry cry and cry while she ate and watched them die…we should get to watch her do the same.

…. the related post here …. are not the ones I would expect … some of the other cases of starvation were less then 21 days … Twins are not only born with lower weights and body fat but in alot of cases one child is deprived of nutrition because the other is hoarding (in the womb). It would be interesting to know if they were born of low birth weight I am sure this was factored in why one child survived (Heaven Love)… Is that right same first name as the mother ? Does anyone know how she is doing or how grandma is handling the situation ? Were the babies being seen by the pediatrician on scheduled intervals when in the parents care?
Does anyone know if she was breastfeeding ? I am not a nurse but have heard about this before “___” in breastmilk could be missing and if you see your babies everyday you might not notice your baby loosing weight. The baby can still nurse as normal. Someone that doesn’t see the child regularly may. Once this happened to my friend who is/was a vegetarian now eats chicken turkey and fish. She didn’t notice cause she was with the child all the time when she brought her daughter to the grandmothers house she noticed the weight loss and made her take her to the doctor immediately. Honestly that didn’t make the mother a bad mother just uneducated.

#170 diaper divided by 2 – is about average (9 a day) would be about a weeks worth. unless I missed something – since I didn’t really re-view what i read in April, she is at least changing diapers. That’s a plus.

At some point the baby’s behavior would indicate something is wrong. I think this mom just didn’t care.
The amount of diapers could be usual for a week with very young twins, but at 10 months old, 170 diapers is well over a week’s worth. For 3 weeks, it’s 4 diapers a day each… conceivable if she was neglecting them. Can they age test diapers? j/k
My twins were 5lbs. each. One arrived looking nearly starved and today at 24 she still has only 11% body fat (she’s an athlete and tracks that). I don’t know how small these girls were, but I would venture to guess they started with less than the typical baby.
Dad was probably there for some of the neglect. Had he not been deployed, he may have been there for all of it. I’m sure LE knows far more than they tell us. (damn)

Perhaps the dad was arrested because there was a delay in getting the babies medical attention. Obviously they needed medical attention badly and if the mother wasn’t going to do it, he should of immediately. Medical attention to military personnel is FREE, so what’s the next excuse…..oh yeah, good mom, sweet, loves f*ing kids…
