POLK COUNTY, Fla. – Six teen girls from Mulberry High School videotaped themselves delivering a nice beating to Victoria Lindsay, 16, in a home while two teen boys stood lookout outside. The purpose of the beating was to embarrass the girl by posting the video to MyspaceMySpace
and YoutubeYouTube
. The girl was beaten so badly she had to go to the hospital for treatment. For a detailed description of what transpired, keep reading.
Victoria Lindsay, 16, was staying at the home of Mercades Nichols, 17, during spring break. At approximately 8:00 pm, Lindsay arrived at the residence and was met by Nichols, and Brittini Hardcastle, 17, who both began yelling at Lindsay and threatening her. Lindsay went into a a bedroom and was met by April Cooper, 14, who began insulting and threatening her. Cooper, who had been hiding, then struck Lindsay several times in the face, and slammed Lindsay’s head into the bedroom wall, knocking Lindsay unconscious as others were videotaping.
When Lindsay awoke, she was on the couch in the living room surrounded by Cooper, Nichols, Hardcastle, Cara Murphy, 16, Britney Mayes, 17, and Kayla Hassell, 15. Lindsay said it was at that time that all of the suspects began hitting and yelling at her while it was being video taped. At one point in the video, it is plain to see that the suspects blocked Lindsay from leaving the residence.
During the incident, two additional suspects, Zachary Ashley, 17, and Stephen Schumaker, 18, acted as “look-outs†while the attack was occurring. After the attack was over, three of the suspects forced Lindsay into a vehicle and drove her to another location where she was finally released with a threat from the suspects warning her not to contact law enforcement or she would be beaten even worse. Once at a friend’s home, she called law enforcement and was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center by ambulance for injuries sustained as a result of the beating.
All of the juvenile suspects were transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center without further incident. Schumaker, who found out the difference between 17 and 18, was taken to the Polk County Jail. All suspects were charged with Felony Battery and False Imprisonment. Mayes, Hardcastle, and Nichols are the three juvenile suspects who forced Lindsay into the vehicle and drove Lindsay to another location. They are charged additionally with Felony Kidnapping.

Looks like they picked on the smallest girl in the home. I could not hear what was being said in the video. Is that true for everyone? Do we just get to watch and not hear what the fight was over or is it just my computer?
I would love to know why all of them decided suddenly to gang up on an invited guest. Why didn’t which ever girl was pissed just go one on one with the thin girl? And the thin girl should have put more effort into fighting back.
The one who does most of the hitting in the video, I’d imagine a good shot to her big nose would have calmed her ass right down. She was there for show, not a real fight. If she really had wanted to kick her ass because there was a REAL problem, she wouldn’t have hit her some and then stopped to start flapping that mouth. My guess she is the resident “bad ass” and one of the other girls was actually pissed at the thin girl, but got “bad ass” to do her fighting for her.
Victoria should have fought harder, damn. She needed to get something in her hands to even the odds. I would have done my best to show the “bad ass” some of her own blood. My guess, she wouldn’t have been too bad, at that point, most of them freak when they’re the ones losing blood.
Victoria should have went to the kitchen instead of a bedroom. At least there, she would have had something to fight “ALL” of them with – knives, frying pans, lots of good weapons in the kitchen.

I was disgraced by this since I attended Mulberry Senior High School class of ‘07, But yet the sad thing is that all you are saying is true. Every last one would be willing, they are mostly cheerleaders, and they are pretty average looking for born and raised Mulberry residents.
Mulberry is a small town just outside of Lakeland where just about everyone is related for one reason or another. Every single person here knows (or thinks they know) everything about everyone. It’s a gossip town. Plus everyone has to brag about their achievements, which is why they recorded it, proof. The average age group of a mother is 14-20. I can actually go through my year book and the majority of my graduating class and the class below me either already had a kid or was pregnant. The fight count is ridiculously high. At least once a month there was a bad fight that someone was getting charged or going to the hospital since I was in seventh grade.
All the students are so super high strung about everything, I was threatened on multiple occasions just for looking at someone “weird” or calling them a bitch with my eyes supposedly. This fight doesn’t suprise me. I actually recall once in 8th grade a group of students ganging up on this one girl and beating her so badly she was in a coma and they thought she wasn’t going to survive, she ended up paralyzed from the waist down and her family and her moved far away. So the only reason this has become a big deal is cause it can be an internet crusade.

The people who beat her up where in juvi until recently which was a pretty big deal in Mulberry.The parents also got a settlement for the hospital payments, but the purpose of the fight was stupid. The girl was talking to “the bad ass”’s boyfriend. I mean this is the town where the football teams quarterback was arrested for attempted murder the same year he graduated second in the class. Mulberry is it’s own flavour of special.

There has been a recent increase in drug usage as well as the severity of the drug type in the four years that I was there.
That and during my stint in Mulberry they super cracked down on a lot of rules like amazing hard. plus this is a community where everyone grows up knowing everyone, so as previously stated everyone knows everything there is to know about everyone creating a lot of tension.
everything is so hyper pressured from teacher student relationships to student student relationships. It is also a low income town so everyone has to fight to show who is better since they can barely play the clothing war.
Also if you look into Mulberry’s past there is the expectation that you will marry someone from mulberry get your own place in mulberry and raise your kids in mulberry…cycle repeat. Youth afraid of the cycle = more pressure. so few people actually make it out as i barely did (though i was not born even in Florida let alone mulberry) it’s a place that sucks you in and once you are in you struggle to get out and hopefully the city won’t eat you alive.
Do know that two or so years ago Mulberry High School was in the press once again for having a teacher who was having inappropriate relations with students. His name was Christopher Ellis; An Algebra, Criminology, Calculus Teacher and Swim Coach. So Mulberry is rather friendly with the media.
