21, Tyson Chamberlain and his girlfriend Chalice Rutherford were taking care of eight-month-old Easton Lee while his mother, Heather Kern, was out for the night. Kern, Chamberlain and Rutherford all lived in the same north Phoenix home. According to Chamberlain and Rutherford, they put baby Easton to bed about 10:00 p.m., but he woke up vomiting a few hours later. By 3:00 a.m. on SaturdaySaturday reviews, March 22, Easton Matthew Lee was dead.
Easton Matthew Lee was born on June 21, 2007, the son of Heather Kern and Robert Lee. His extended family keeps in touch via MyspaceMySpace, so there are pictures of baby Easton and his pretty blonde mother all over the internet. Easton appears to have been a very tiny newborn who grew quickly into an average-sized, smiling baby in a large, supportive family.
Tyson Chamberlain, 30, and Chalice Rutherford, 24, are parents themselves. Their Myspaces show lots of pictures of their toddler daughter Keiarra and more than one lingerie shot of Chalice. A civil suit for back rent filed last September shows why they may have needed a roommate. And while Chalice seems to have a number of friends, Tyson Chamberlain has only a few.
Chamberlain and Rutherford called 911 about 3:00 a.m. last Saturday morning to report that Easton wasn’t breathing. Chamberlain’s story was that Easton had somehow slid under the water during his bath, and any bruises must have come from the CPR that Chamberlain performed, trying to revive the infant. The problem with that story became clear on autopsy. Easton Lee had blunt force trauma to both the head and the abdomen, resulting in skull fractures and a damaged colon. He also had a number of bruises and abrasions. His hair had been ripped out of his scalp.
Then there’s the picture of little Easton taken on March 14, the week before his death. I found it on a relative’s Myspace. In it, Easton is being held by an aunt – and has clear injuries to his face:
Is that normal “baby fall-down” bruising? Possibly. But the timing is frightening. How often did Chamberlain and Rutherford babysit? How did the bruised eye and nose abrasions happen? Maybe it’s nothing. Or maybe last weekend wasn’t the first time Easton Lee got hit.
According to their Myspaces, Robert Lee’s family believes that Easton was murdered. I’m not finding much on Heather Kern or Robert Lee themselves (her Myspace is set to private), but they weren’t home when Easton died. That pretty much leaves Tyson Chamberlain and Chalice Rutherford, and Chalice hasn’t been charged.
Tyson Chamberlain was arrested on Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder and child abuse. He is being held in custody in Phoenix, and bail has not yet been set.

Great. One of the perps is named after nasty, packaged chicken, and the other one after a drinking cup. “Nuggets” and “Tumbler” wouldn’t have sounded quite as fancy, but would have been more descriptive.

Poor little baby…I still can’t understand WHY people abuse little babies. This little guy’s hair was ripped from his scalp??!!! ASSHOLE MAN! He’ll get the crap beaten out of him in prison.

Could be that she beat the baby then handed it off to this couple to watch, to get them in trouble for the injuries she caused.
Something just don’t add up right in this case if the baby has marks on him in the last picture Imp posted.

In reading the MS profile of the baby’s dad Robert it says he is no longer with the mother because he fucked up & that he was in jail for 5 years. I wonder if the Mom or Dad could have abused the baby? The baby does have bruises or marks 1 week before he was babysat by these two.
Looking at all the pics of Tyson’s daughter she is smiling & looks happy. I didn’t see any bruises. It’s completely possible that he did kill that baby but it just seems like we are missing a piece to the puzzle.
No matter what this is such a sad ending. My son was born July 20th so it really hits home. I can’t imagine anyone hurting such an innocent baby.

I agree with nurseronda and mommyto3 and enb01. This doesn’t add up. Mom and dad were fighting, baby got hurt, left the baby at home where he lived and Tyson paid for it. After all he did say he thought it drown, don’t you think he would have come up with a better excuse, like geez I must have accidentally dropped him? Why aren’t the parents all over the news for the suffering they are feeling? Let’s see how this unfolds. I feel for all involved, but especially the pain that baby went through.

JHJ3, what are you suggesting happened? That the parents did something to Easton before he was with Tyson and Chalice? Wouldn’t they have noticed and gotten help for him immediately? And why would Tyson say Easton was injured during the bath? I guess I don’t see how the baby’s injuries could’ve been caused by his parents.

I wasn’t there that night, but the mother and her whole family have been friends of mine for years. Yes, the baby’s father does have a history of violence, that’s not a secret. But Heather had made choices to get away from him. She became a mother and decided to stop taking the abuse. The biggest part of that, I got the feeling, was for her son. She continued to have contact with him because they share a baby. If the baby had had HAIR RIPPED FROM HIS SCALP during a fight between dad and mom, wouldn’t that have been the first thing the babysitter told the police about? Not a bullshit story about a bath? I know abuse can be very hard to uncover from parents, but this baby spent a lot of time with all of mine and Heather’s friends, they are competent, caring, trustworthy women, who would not have hesitsted to call the police themselves if they had even SUSPECTED abuse. There was nothing they saw that gave them that impression. I made it a point to never know the father, I can’t comment on him. Heather loved and wanted her son. And he was an absolute light in everyone’s life.

Carol13, I know so many people must be grieving over the loss of this beautiful boy. And I’m with you–what we know right now doesn’t give us any reason to look immediately at the parents. I mean, unless this is some kind of conspiracy or the cops are completely incompetent, it would be the people who were last with the baby who would be the main suspects.

tyson passed a lie detector test, check out the father, he was in jail for abuse. head injuries build up pressure leading to nausea and coma over time, hours or days sometimes. the parents were together and fighting before they needed a babysitter. Maybe they didn’t know how severe the baby was hurt. Maybe the hair was pulled out while being yanked out of the bath water. Do you know what adult cpr can do to a baby when you don’t know there is a different kind of cpr for a baby? I don’t think most people are stupid enough to say he drown when it can be so easily disproved. I really doubt Easton’s mother knew how bad he was hurt, if she knew at all. Check out the dad. Who knows, maybe the baby simply fell while they were fighting and they didn’t even notice because of their own fight. I don’t think the babysitter killed this baby.

carol if u are so close to the family,why dont u know child services were out checking out the parents for robert blowing pot smoke in the babys face,not mention the mother claiming she almost lost the baby while she was pregant from robert. if u read up on head injuries on infants it can take hours for any bruising to show.what about the bloody fight between the parents,wiping the blood hands on eastons cloths(the police have)Robert is sick and the truth will come out! why has robert called a close relative claiming he knows tyson didnt do that? you may not really know how sick robert is?

JHJ3, perhaps bruises can take time to appear on the head, but the baby also had blunt force trauma to the abdomen, leading to damage to his colon. I’m doubtful that kind of damage would take “hours” to reveal itself. Also, Tyson and Chalice are not very good babysitters if they did not notice that the baby’s hair had been ripped from his scalp. I just don’t understand how, based on the evidence, we can say Tyson is blameless.

JHJ3 can you read? I don’t know Robert. I chose not to know him. I know what happened while Heather was pregnant. I don’t think Heather did this, I think the babysitter looks damn guilty. Let me say it one more time, I don’t know the father. I made it clear I knew the father was abusive to the mother. That is all I know of him.

abdominal injuries can come from cpr. It doesn’t appear Heather is guilty of anything, but don’t close the door on the father or the fact this could have happened earlier in the day. She was staying with Tyson because she was so afraid of Lee. If Tyson took the time to cause all this injury why isn’t Chalise charged with something for watching him do it, she was there. Maybe nobody knew how seriously this baby was hurt to begin with. Now they have gone TOGETHER and stolen things?

Lizard, the mother and baby lived with them. The baby could have been in her room when she asked them to watch the baby, knowing something was wrong with him but asking them to bathe the baby later when he woke up. He went in to get the baby for a bath not realizing the baby was hurt, just thought he was just groggy from his nap. She left leaving them to take care of the baby to get the blame of being the ones to hurt him. I don’t know why but I have a feeling he is innocent of this crime. Something tells me she knows what happened to her son but won’t come forward. Nothing adds up in this case.

I know a baby in the care of Tyson is dead, and he seems to have died pretty horribly. I know, at best, he’s a terrible babysitter who let a child die on his watch. At worst he’s a murdering asshole. Well by what we have heard about Easton’s dad I would think the cops would have looked at him as a suspect. If it’s true the dad was with Easton that evening and there was a fight they most definitely would be looking at the dad. Tyson is the one they arrested and charged so there must be some reason they charged Tyson and not the dad.

I would feel horrible if a child died on my watch too, but this baby was pictured with what looked like bruises on his body in the top picture posted of him. It would be my guess that Tyson didn’t put those on him.

tyson was charged only because he was the last to be w/easton,carol u are a prime example of what characters the parents hang-out with,nasty,this is a tragedy of baby easton in which tyson has been a great influnce,they be on the streets if tyson and chalice didnt give them a home w/free rent for the first 2.5 months paying for diapers food a crib(the baby was on floor on a rubber mat prev.) easton was hurt badly during the violent attack and the mother is so scared of robert for her life , she is sticking w/roberts story! the truth is coming all reports will be out tues as mon is a holiday. robert and mother sadly killing their own son or leaving the baby knowing it was badly injured and then leaving the house w/ robert. she left w/the man she feared because she was scared but untill that monment she would never leave w/robert.if u love her get her away from him and come clean. help tyson has he for u to have a nice home

my youngest managed to bruise her forhead on her crib when she was about that age, it can happen. I’m not saying I know how Easton got that one, but it’s not impossible to imagine it may not have been abouse.

“Police responded to the home at 3208 Desert Vista Trail early in the morning last Saturday. Court records say Chamberlain told them the baby woke up and vomited and then he put him in the bath. He told police the boy slipped under water when he went to get a towel and he grabbed the boy by his foot and his hair and got him out and started to perform CPR.
An autopsy shows the boy had blunt force injuries to his head, severe abrasions and cuts on his face and head, a large portion of hair torn from his head, and an abdominal injury.”
So according to the babysitter the baby’s hair was ripped out while pulling him from the bathtub.
What I dont understand is why was the baby getting a bath before 3 am on a Saturday?

Tyson Chamberlain is a close friend of mine. I have known him for 15 years and grew up racing motorcycles with him. Tyson and his sister Tasha are both people that I hold close to my heart, and have a deep respect for both of them because their have persevered through some life circumstances that would make most people crumble. He even has the word “Perseverance” tatted on his chest.
Tyson has always been a role model for me. Anyone that knows Tyson will attest to his character. He has the biggest heart, works hard for everything he has and will give you the shirt off his back. Many times in my life, Tyson has put my friends and I in check, and still remains an enormous inspiration every single person that knows him to this day. The guy is the definition of responsibility and moral fiber. It breaks my heart to see his picture on these websites, which shows him totally vulnerable to media scrutiny and the erroneous, ridiculous and judgemental comments made by most of the people on these message boards. I am here to speak on his behalf, based on the knowledge that I know regarding Tyson Chamberlain. Unlike the majority of the people that are here for entertainment purposes.
The media paints this picture of him that you all are influenced by. What does that fact that Tyson only having a few friends on his myspace page have to do with anything? What significance does the “lingerie shots” of Chalice have? It has nothing to do with anything! Just to influence you all to call a stand up guy in a shitty situation a “baby killer”. That’s bullshit. And even if you wanted to go that route with the whole myspace thing, look at the abundance of pictures on Tyson, Tasha and Chalice’s pages and you will see that nearly every one of them has Tyson’s daughter in them. Look how happy she is. Are there any signs of distress in any of these pictures? Absolutely not. Baby killer?? Fucking bullshit.
I am from Omaha, Nebraska, so it’s hard for me to keep up with what is happening to my friend. But we do know that Tyson passed the lie detector. If the police implement and heavily rely on the functions of a lie detector test, what does that say about what truly happend to Easton. If the lie detector test is so irrefutable, then why is Tyson still in this situation? Tyson did not do anything to intentionally harm this baby, and if he did, as someone else pointed out, a better alibi like “I accidentally dropped him” or something to that effect would have been used instead of the baby drowning, which is how Tyson perceived the baby’s death.
I don’t know the whole physiological scenarios that have to do with babies not showing swelling or bruising for an extended period of time and I don’t have to. I know that my heart hurts for my friend tonight because I know he is not capable of these things that he is accused of. I ask that you all employ some critical thinking before continuing to post blind character assumptions. I hope the best for my friend.
