Jason Alex Abbott

Sitka, AlaskaAlaska reviewsAlaska reviews -  Jason Abbott did not like being in jail on Easter.  Abbott, 18, had gotten into a fight with his mother, and she’d called police on SundaySunday reviewsSunday reviews morning because Abbott was yelling about red and orange being “evil colors”, and he didn’t want them in her house.   After being released from jail on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge on Monday morning, Jason Abbott decided to get even with the harbingers of the evil red and orange.

On Tuesday, Abbott went to his grandparents’ house in Sitka and got all stabby, killing four people and injuring another.  Dead are Jason’s grandparents,  John and Alice Abbott, aged 69 and 68.  Also killed were Charles Tate, 37,  and a female victim identified only as “E.A.”  The survivor is a daughter of  John and Alice Abbott, called “M.R.” in the police report.

Wednesday, court documents were filed that outline Tuesday morning’s events:

M.R. woke to the sound of her mother, Alice Abbott, screaming, and went downstairs to see her mother covered in blood and trying to get away from the house.  M.R. then saw Jason Abbott come at her with a knife.  Abbott chased M.R. outside and caught her in the driveway, where she screamed for him to stop as he stabbed her repeatedly until police arrived.   Someone called 911 at 11:45 a.m. to report a crazy guy stabbing people, and police arrived within a few minutes.

Alice Abbott was still alive but staggering before she fell against a police car. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died on the operating table.  Three victims were stabbed in the home, and two were stabbed outside.  Three victims died at the scene and one died later at a local hospital. The fifth victim, M.R.,  remains in serious but stable condition with multiple stab wounds.

When police confronted Jason Abbott, they had to use a stun gun to subdue him after he put a five-inch dagger to his own throat.  Abbott fell when the stun gun hit him and cut his eye.  After being treated at a local hospital, he was taken to jail, where he has pled not guilty to  four counts of murder and oe of attempted murder.  He is held on $1 million bond.  Somehow I don’t think his family’s gonna raise the funds to get him out on this one.

Thanks, Unamused Cat!

Should have just let him stab himself in the throat…

I was thinking it’s too bad they didn’t hit him in the hand with the ’stun’ just hard enough to make his hand jump, and complete the act. This guy needs to have his head chopped off.

Who wants to bet he’s gonna use the NG due to insanity plea? And be institutionalized for a month till the meds start working, so he can be discharged, go off his meds, and kill again?

Yeah should have waited for him to subdue himself through loss of blood.

Christ. What do you want to bet that the previous altercation regarding “evil” colors will provide grounds for an insanity plea?

…He kinda looks like an ex of mine, incidentally.

Court records revealed a criminal past and the fear that at least one Sitka resident felt about Abbott.

Sitka resident Kristal Hammack petitioned a Sitka court in 2004 to issue a 20-day protective order against Abbott to stay clear of her daughter. The mother said her daughter was hospitalized due to the stress of her relationship with Abbott, according to court documents.

Included in the court documents are letters apparently written by Abbott to Kristal Hammack’s daughter. The letters are signed by Abbott and the signatures match those he gave during Wednesday’s court appearance.

In one letter, which is partly written in rhyme, Abbott writes, “I think I wanna strangle you but I think not, maybe I’ll just untangle you and let loose with our knot.”

The other letter begins as a love letter but then describes Abbott’s fears.

“I wanna be with you forever …” Abbott wrote. “But with the mental problems my family is making worse, I’m afraid I might kill myself or kill someone else. I don’t want to, but during traumatic times my family creates, I don’t think right during them so I want you to be there for me.”

Might look like an ex, but definitely doesn’t sound like one. The only letter I ever got from an ex started with, “Dating you is the dumbest thing I’ve ever done…”

…in my defense, however, I had just recently dumped him. :P

Too bad he didn’t off himself BEFORE he killed 4 fucking people. Goddammit, what a waste.

this dude definitely has mental health issues, with a focus on ‘mental’. I’ll put money on a substance assisted ‘untanglement’ of his ‘mental knot’ over time, but gee, which one? I’d suspect meth, for a drug induced psychosis or schizophrenia.

I love the concept of “getting stabby.” It’s such a funny word. And that means people can get “shooty” with guns. Makes it all seem much hipper.

Yeah, and both of these situations occur when somebody gets up to some fucktardery. LOL.

A 19-year-old Alaska man has pleaded “guilty, but mentally ill” in the stabbing deaths of his grandparents, aunt and her companion.
Jason Abbott of Sitka pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of first-degree murder in a deal with prosecutors.
Under the deal, prosecutors consolidated charges in the deaths of grandparents Alice and John Abbott as one count and the deaths of his aunt, Elizabeth Abbott, and her friend, Charles Tate, in a second count.
Abbott submitted the same plea to an assault charge in the stabbing of his aunt, Mary Ricketts, who survived the 2008 attack.
Abbott’s attorney has said he was diagnosed by prison doctors with paranoia and severe schizophrenia.
He faces at least 40 years and one day in prison when sentenced Sept. 25.
