Update 3/22/08 - Baby Diana’s mother, Lindsey Daigle, has now been charged with giving her surviving child, one-year-old Deanna, multiple drugs. Please scroll to the bottom of this article for details.
3/5/08 Bogalusa, LA - “This was not something that accidentally happened,” say Bogalusa police. “This was an intentional act.” And so it was, but by whom? Six-week-old baby Diana Nelson is on life support at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans after being rushed there in the early hours of March 3. She had blunt force trauma to the head and body, burns that were consistent with curling iron marks on her arms, internal bleeding, and benzodiazepines in her system. Among the people caring for her over the weekend were her mother, her grandfather, her uncle, her uncle’s fiancee, and various other relatives, friends, and alter-egos.
Baby Diana is the second born child of her mother, 19-year-old Lindsey Daigle, aka Lindsey Nelson. Lindsey Daigle was with her daughter for awhile on Sunday evening before dropping her off with the baby’s uncle, Allen Daigle Jr. Prior to that, the baby was with her grandfather, also named Allen Daigle, who says that “some crazed maniac done this to my grandbaby.”
Allen Daigle the Younger and his girlfriend were babysitting when they checked on Diana at about 1:30 in the morning and noticed that Diana’s lips were blue and she was not breathing. A friend, Connie Rosa, performed CPR while a shaken Daigle called 911. Even Tuesday, he was tearful in an interview, saying that “it just killed me” to see Diana in such a state. Even so, he denied knowledge of burns or marks, saying that he “didn’t see those until I got to the police station and saw the pictures.” Um, okay.
It appears the police have their work cut out for them, saying that the relationships among people who had contact with baby Diana over the weekend were “tangled”. I’d say so, if their Myspaces are any indication. Lindsey Daigle aka Lindsey Nelson aka Nichole Nelson has at least five different Myspaces or else there are two sisters, Lindsey and Nichole, going by each other’s names. Some pictures show a stepson who is older, others show a baby born in 2006 or 2007 called “Deanna”.
The rest of the family is no less complicated, what with naming everyone Allen or A.J. Allen Daigle the Younger’s Myspace looks like he knocked up a girl who is now with someone else and so who may or may not be the girlfriend who was babysitting, but I can’t untangle everyone long enough to figure it out. These people can’t even get their web pages straight, much less their stories of Who Burned The Baby.
My vote is that they drew straws. One person shook the baby and another person pummeled her. One person crushed up Xanax in a baby bottle and fed it to her. One person decided that curling irons make good baby toys once they’ve heated up a bit. I’m getting ready to decide that we just put ‘em all away and let ‘em sort each other out.
Charges have not yet been filed, because the police are pretty damned confused. meanwhile, baby Diana Nelson is undergoing brain scans to see if she’s brain dead. If this baby dies, it is all those people’s fault. Somebody saw something, somebody knows something, and somebody needs to pay. I’m sick of this “punt the baby” shit.

UPDATE 3/6/08 — Baby Diana has died at 2:22 p.m.. Charged with cruelty to a juvenile in the hours prior to Diana’s death is “family friend” Amy Leighanne Thomas, 22. Details are still very sketchy at this time but it appears that Thomas may have been watching Diana for an hour or so on Sunday night before giving her to another babysitter. So she had Diana after Grandpa, but before Uncle Allen. WTF?
During that hour to 90 minutes, Thomas beat Diana, drugged her with Xanax, and burned her with what police now say may have been a small cigarette lighter. Again, WTF?!
Then Thomas drops the baby pff with Uncle Allen and his fiancee’, and says that Diana is sleeping because she just ate. Ate a Xanax, that is. I have to back off the family here a little bit since they didn’t actually kill the poor baby, but for heaven’s sake, why was Diana with that many babysitters in such a short time? Thomas is being charged with murder and is being held without bail.
UPDATE 3/22/08 - Diana’s mother Lindsey Daigle, 19, was arrested on Friday and charged with cruelty to her 14-month-old daughter, Diana’s surviving sister. During the investigation into Diana’s death it was alleged that Lindsey had drugged both her children. Diana tested postive for benzodiazepines before her death, and now her sister Deanna has tested positive for what police say are “multiple controlled substances”. Police waited until after Diana’s funeral last weekend to arrest Lindsey. Deanna is now in state custody.
Guess all that stuff I had to say about Lindsey wasn’t entirely crap, after all. And I guess we know how Diana got Xanax into her system. Sounds like the babies aren’t the ones who need the pharmies.

yeh- but you practically have to go “underground” to find a Dr. who will do it, if not for a medical reason. I highly doubt these people have “family doctors” that would do the procedure for them. They are the local clinic/ medicaid bunch who then end up on wic and EBT for years–because the “system” lets them, discouraging them from actually getting a job and supporting themselves….

Fuck, I don’t wanna hear excuses/you can get a birth control shot that lasts for months. An IUD for years. Hell, they still doing norda plant? You don’t even have to take a pill anymore. You can put a patch on and be done with it.

Call it the .45 caliber birth control method - it only takes one dose to end unwanted pregnancies in that person - forever.

You weren’t aborted — hope you don’t get murdered! Here’s a WIC card for your Momma and see you in Heaven!”
I feel bitter about this situation. Please excuse me if I’ve gone too far in expressing my bitterness. I see few anti-abortionists who have strained their economic resources to care for unwanted babies — all they care about is getting the fetus out of the womb at full-term, then the kids are on their own. Directing BabyMammas to social services encourages them to trade on their pregnancies, making babies to get $. Making babies for $ means they aren’t worth much to the parents.
Well, I’ve just stood on my soapbox for another paragraph. Sorry.

The person that has a prescription would be the first person that I would look at, but in this case, more than one family member may be taking this drug, which would confuse the cops. I would look at the one that is taking the prescription, because being that this drug is selling great on the black market, one pill is taking money out of their pockets, if this is how they are getting the wages that they claim on their sites, so they would know where each and every pill went.

The question is - How many had access to the Xanax? If the person was selling them, I’d imagine they had to keep them pretty handy or on them. If for no other reason, there were so many people around, everyone is a possible theif.
Were they in the medicine cabinet? If so, anyone could have done it. I really doubt they were just laying around, though. As everyone knows, if you don’t keep them on you, they just start evaporating into thin air. *rolls eyes*
I hope the cops are reading all of this, Nurseronda - you suggested a fine starting place with the suspects. Whoever is making the money off of the Xanax, had a pretty close eye on the bottle - start there.

So, I invited her to post here and help us figure out who’s who. I also asked her for the name and mugshot of the arrested. I also think it’s interesting that not once does she mention the baby’s condition or how she is doing. Gotta keep those priorities in line, I guess.

Diana’s fourteen month old sister (maybe named Deanna) has been removed from the home during the investigation into Diana’s injuries. Brain scan tests on baby Diana were still going on late yesterday.
I’m wondering if the perp isn’t the uncle’s fiancee, since she was also there. I could be way off base, but it kind of fits unless there was yet another person who was alone with this six week old baby.

baby diana died this afternoon after being taken off of life support. had she not died, she would most likely have been severely brain damaged.
i agree with a lot of the points brought up here, but i feel so bad for this family. the myspace pages of diana’s mother are indeed troublesome. what keeps coming to my mind is: “poor little crushed blossom . . . ” (as my dad used to say about one of the friends that this cat dragged in).
this family has a lot to come to terms with right now and i just feel so bad for them.
now, go to the text link above “different Myspaces” and you’ll go to her ***N!ch0l3*** page. notice one of her top friends is: Amy Leigh. I wonder if that’s amy leighann thomas. what a POS she is. i’m glad that my brain can’t compute why or how this happened. (know what i mean?) . . .

When i get confirmation one way or another, i’ll definitely post it here, but sometimes I totally screw up a Myspace (see the Alicia Hartner article.. heh) so I try to be really careful and be sure I have the right person. Obviously it doesn’t always work, but better safe than sorry.
If it’s her, though, she has her own baby. Damn.

Mar 7, 2008 at 4:19 am -Yes, that is her. Not only does she have ONE baby… she has two. One is very very young, approximatley 6-8 weeks old (I THINK) and the other is 3 or so. Amy Thomas is being charged with first degree murder. She is being held in solitary confinment in the local jail without the possibility of bail. This girl is not some “inbred redneck”, she was raised in a good home and is very intelligent, or at least she used to be. I do not know this babys family personally and mabye they aren’t perfect but they have just lost a baby. This baby was born to a 19 year old mother who already has another child. She is a child who has children. Teenage mothers do not always make the best decisions.This family certainly did not deserve to lose their baby because of bad decisions. I know that a lot of you live no where near where this occured. I however do. I live no more than 8 blocks away from these people. This has been very hard on our small community. We are not inbred, rednecks, mabye. We are not morons. The accused is a very educated woman who scored one of the highest possible scores on her college entrance exam. That goes to show that just because a person is intelligent does not mean that they are good or decent people. Drugs are rampant in this community and that may be the cause of this HORRIBLE incident. I have no clue if they were, but living in Bogalusa myself, it would be my best guess. I could not imagine losing my child especially at the hands of someone I trusted. Please do not put these people down at this time, offer them some sympathy in what is probably going to be the hardest time in their lives. Amy Thomas, however, deserves no sympathy at all. But she does have a family that are going through a bad time as well when they did nothing to deserve this. This includes two little boys who will grow up and someday know that their mother took the life of a child. Her children also do not deserve to have to grow up like that but they do. There are a lot of innocent children involved in this(Dianas sibling, Amy’s children and others) and they are here now, can’t send them back.

As for drugs being involved in this situation; I think we’ve already established that they are. Hell, they were fed to a six-week-old baby, I can only imagine how many of them Amy took, herself, before deciding that it would be a good idea to share with others. My sympathies go out to all of the children involved, as well as the family of the slain baby. But I still think a .45 caliber retro-abort is in order for Amy. Just my opinion, though……
