I really did try to put “mentally disabled” in the headline, but it didn’t fit. The medical term is MR/DD, or “mentally retarded / developmentally disabled”, and that didn’t fit either. I didn’t figure everyone would know the acronym, but everyone knows what “retarded” means.
That, and i figured it’d piss people off more if i went with “retarded”. Which really only means “delayed”, which is one politically correct term i’ve heard bandied about. I never understood why people hated that word. It’s like saying “fat” is bad, but “chubby” is okay, and both mean the same thing.
Anyway. The asshat who did the hurting deserves punishment I don’t have the means to dish out. The child who was hurt has much bigger problems than how I characterize his mental disability.

I was letting a personal experience get in the way. I’ve taken care of “retarded” kids before. Across the street from the facility was a city park. We would take the kids over on nice days to play. One little girl was a buddy of mine. An older child in the park not retarded but “normal”, called her a fucking retard. I really wanted to smack that child. Kinda pissed me off.

Handcuff this bastard over a tree limb just high enough that his toes can touch the ground. Each day give him just enough water, and some food every five of six days to keep him alive.
Beat his feet with bamboo each day. Shove bamboo chutes under his toe and finger nails, and make sure he bleeds just enough to attract wolves and other predators at night so they can gnaw on his lower extremities.
When all that becomes boring, cut his belly open and let his guts hang out for the critters to feed on.
While he’s watching the critters dine on his guts, drive a 12″ railroad spike though his forehead, then cut him down for the critters to finish off.

To answer the question put out by BornAgainPagan in post 12, the difference between a ’sex offender’ and a ’sexual predator’ in South Carolina is whether or not the crime that places said title is judged to be ‘violent.’
So I guess banging kids isn’t violent. Or at least the banging he did in 1988 and 1995 wasn’t violent. According to whoever evaluated the case, anyway.
Maybe this crime will actually put that ‘predator’ label on him at last.

–the boy is smart enough that perhaps he twisted what he has learned about the birds and the bees [he is 12, after all, and the mentally disabled are as hormone-driven and sexually curious as anyone else] into some kind of story (this is more wishful thinking for the boy’s sake on the part of the commenter)
–Williams has done some kind of work [possibly volunteer] with some kind of at-risk youth group at a local school
If the mother stayed at home, then what this man doing alone with the boy? I suppose the mother thought it would be good for them to “bond,” and for the boy to have a male role model?
In most cases of “boyfriend did something to the kids,” I don’t think it’s really a matter of “step away from the penis.” After all, even the most conventionally unattractive woman can go into any bar at closing time and find someone willing to have sex with her. Heck, she can probably even get paid a couple of bucks for it. So I don’t think it’s a matter of needing sex. I think it’s more a matter of needing someone to help watch the kids, and help make ends meet. And while I don’t excuse it in that case, I do have some sympathy for that–a single mom who doesn’t work gets slammed for being a “welfare queen,” but if she works and has to leave the kid with someone who ends up abusing her child, she’s slammed for leaving the kid to go out and work. Yes, maybe one should screen caretakers more carefully, but even middle-class parents have difficulty finding and affording reliable, safe childcare. (Look at all the people caught on nannycams–and you have to have some money to afford that technology, and an in-home caregiver, in the first place.)
Whatever SSI this woman was getting for her disabled child, it couldn’t have been enough to live on. Probably why she was living with her folks in the first place (if the comments are true). I’m sure this guy looked like her only chance to get out of her parents’ home and be an “adult” living on her own, with her own little manufactured “perfect” family. Not a lot of men willing to step up and take on the responsibility of all the finances for a non-working mom and her mentally disabled son (who is going to need life-long care and overseeing to some degree, since he’s not going to “grow out of it.” Which should have made the mom (or the grandparents) suspicious of this guy, at the very least. I honestly don’t understand how this could go on for months if the mother wasn’t out of the house working.

One thing that you posted that you’d seen on this board made me blink, read it again, and blink a few times over. It just boggled the crap out of me.
Williams did work with at-risk youths? The man’s a sex offender with multiple counts on him. Whoever let him partake in this activity (if it was a sanctioned volunteer activity – doubly so if it was a paid position) needs to be drug out into the street and thrown under the wheels of a fast-moving all-wheel drive sedan. Preferably mine. And preferably when I’m driving home from mid-shift so I’m too tired to listen to my moral compass screaming at me to swerve before I bash in the front end of my car.
I guess this especially bugs the crap out of me because it’s so easy to find this man, especially after he’d been forced to register after being prosecuted for not registering in 2001. Now while I don’t have children, I actually do cursory background checks (mostly sex-offender type and other easily obtained information) on those men I choose to seriously date. While the mother (if what was posted on this other board was true) might have been attempting to craft a functional family away from her parents’ home, the resources are available to ‘check out’ the person one’s attempting to be affiliated with. And while some people may be willing to give others another chance at proving that they’re decent, functioning and rehabilitated human beings, she could have/should have known to show more caution towards him and his interactions with her son.
And if she was indeed a stay at home mother… how is it that this man had so many opportunities with her son? Maybe it’s my befuddled and sleep-fogged brain over-thinking (or under-thinking, as the case might be) the situation, but still… it just doesn’t sit well with me. Kinda like you said at the end of your post, now that I actually look again. Blegh.

Leemouse, thanks for all that. I totally agree with you regarding it often being more a matter of needing help with the child rather than being chained to the cock. Especially when it comes to single mums of disabled children. It’s exhausting, I know from experience, and I have a partner who is fully involved with and committed to our children, so I can’t imagine what it would be like to have no one to lean on, and share adult time with. So I can see how these women could sometimes fail to exercise proper judgement in these situations. Still, it makes me angry though. These kids are behind the eight ball from the beginning, and if the one person there to protect them fails to do that, it’s inexcusable IMO.

unless a child has a global developmental and intellectual delay, they can still be slow, yet in other areas as smart as a whip. Either way, the majority of children with DD are very vulnerable to people in authority, or those they think might be friends. They are very easily manipulated with the right pressure applied.
