Fayetteville, Ark. — Zachariah Marcyniuk does not take rejection well. Never has, from the look of his history with women. But on Sunday, Marcyniuk’s failure to recognize the word “no” had fatal consequences for ex-girlfriend Katie Wood, 24. Marcyniuk, 28, argued with Katie about the status of their relationship and then “blacked out”, he says. The end result? Katie dead in her bathtub of what looks like blunt force trauma. Way to show her you love her, Romeo!
Zachariah Marcyniak has a history of violent behavior toward women. He was arrested twice in 2005 for crimes against a former girlfriend. His freaky-deaky DeviantArt page shows clearly his mindset with that girl. Marcyniak was convicted of misdemeanor burglary for breaking into that girlfriend’s apartment in January 2005, and again in May 2005 for aggravated assault and violating a protection order regarding the same girlfriend. But both cases were pled down from more serious charges, and Marcyniak ended up with two years’ probation. Wood’s friends say she didn’t know about Marcyniak’s past, or she never would have dated him.
Marcyniak’s Myspace seems somewhat more normal on the surface (although I couldn’t help but get a Radiohead earworm. I’m humming “Creep” to myself as I type.) While he last visited the page on Saturday, March 8, he last updated it in February - and Katie last commented on it in December. In fact, the last comment anyone left on his page was over a week ago, when a girl wrote that she saw him, but “you drove off like a bat out of hell.”
Katie Wood’s Myspace shows a smart girl, and artist and articulate writer who has three times the number of friends Marcyniak does. In her pictures she’s pretty, witty, and a little self-deprecating with a dose of humor. It’s clear that her friends are grieving. Katie had been staying with friends at night since Marcyniak began stalking her and behaving erratically after their breakup. One friend noted that Kaite “couldn’t really do anything” without Marcyniak being there, watching her.
Sunday morning, Katie stopped at her apartment to get ready for work. That’s when police say that Zachariah Marcyniak grabbed her. After killing her, he drove to his parents’ home and told them that he had blacked out, but thought he had hurt Katie. He gave his parents his black pug dog and asked them to take care of the animal. They tried to get him to stay and call police, but he wrenched away and drove off, into Oklahoma, where he was stopped for speeding and caught a short time later.
After waiving extradition from Oklahoma, Marcyniuk was returned to Washington County, Arkansas, Tuesday night and booked on a charge of murder. He is being held on $500,000 bond. Prosecutors will review the evidence and decide whether to file capital murder charges this week.

BTW, why is it a black-out. Thats just color discrimination. Why does it have to be a black-out? Why not a white-out, purple-out, or certainly a bloody red-out?

I think the authorities should just turn this piece of shit over to Katie’s family and friends, and give them each a blunt object, so they can show him how much HE is loved.

Was he mentally disturbed? most definetly yes. Is he still a murdering asshole? most definetly yes. I know your emotions are all over the place right now. Mar 27, 2008 at 4:18 pm -sarah, of course i don’t know you, but my advice to you is to just turn off the computer and back away. this is the second forum i’ve seen you posting on about this case. i can’t even imagine how it would feel to have gone through what you’ve been through, but you aren’t doing yourself any favors by reading about this case or commenting on it. you are only going to compound any anxiety you have about what happened to you. if, as you say, this is something you want to leave behind you, then do it. just leave it be. you can’t stop people from commenting on this case, but you CAN choose to stop being involved.
incidentally, if i were you, i’d try really hard to get the admins at livejournal to delete zachariah’s journal.
i wish you luck in fully healing and getting past this. but seriously, just leave it be.

Had I known who you were from the beginning, I would probably not have dealt as harshly with you. That doesn’t change anything I said about him, but believe it or not, I do understand, at least partially, why you posted that comment, now. Understanding it, I can sympathize with your predicament, but I have a few suggestions for you as well.
If as you say, you are truly trying to put this part of your life behind you, then going online and searching for all of the latest stories is probably not the best means of accomplishing that goal. YOU are prolonging your trauma, and actively burning bridges that could lead to your recovery. I am truly sorry for what happened to you, but even now, you are allowing him to control you from the grave.
Have you had any counseling? If you have, I would hazard a guess that it was not nearly long enough, and if you asked your counselor, she would tell you the same thing some of the others on this site have already suggested. The computer and the internet are not your friends in this particular situation. You will never find the peace you seek by employing Google or any of the other search engines available.
If you have not been to counseling, I strongly suggest you go. You need to be able to talk to someone about what has happened to you, what has happened since your relationship with him ended, and how to go on with your life without having his specter constantly hovering around you. You NEED to talk about it. Not with people online, but with someone real, who can talk you through this time in your life without employing the emotions of hatred or anger that you are so likely to find skipping from blog to blog.
I wish you the best, and hope you learn to come to terms with all that has happened to you. It will take time, but it is possible. If you wish to tell us facts about this case that you think we don’t already have, but should, we would appreciate it. But you need to take care of you first.

I’m the girl who left the comment of “totally saw you last night, and then you drove off like a bat out of hell.” That was in no way calling him creepy or shady. He was a pizza delivery guy at a stop light. If you read back in his lj in the summer 2005 period, I’m also the Laura mentioned. Think I may have a better idea of the kind of person he was than people who are coming into the situation based solely on news reports and internet blogs. Before passing judgment like you have been doing, please realize that both people involved in this have people left behind who have to deal with the loss of a loved one. I’m not saying that I excuse what he did, but hope that he gets the help that he should have gotten before this happened. That’s really all I’ve got.
