PORTLAND, Tenn. – Snelling was playing video games when his 11-month-old son would not stop crying. Snelling went to the crib the child was in, grabbed him by the face and while yelling “I’ll give you something to cry about” he repeatedly slammed the back of the baby’s head into the bottom of the crib until both the crib and the infant’s skull, cracked open. Not finished, he dropped the baby to the floor, picked him back up and threw him across the room where his head struck a headboard.
The incident started with a 911 call that Snelling made stating that he had a baby in his arms that was unresponsive. Medical responders took the infant to the hospital where it was found that he had two skull fractures and bleeding on the brain. Police went back to Snelling’s residence to question him about the injuries and he admitted to beating the boy.
Along with his arrest for aggravated child abuse, the boy’s mother Jeanie Tate was also arrested and charged with neglect. This stemmed from the fact that there were four other children, ages 3 to 10, hungry and poorly clothed living in the home littered with filth and trash. They told police they hadn’t ate all day. The patrol officers went to McDonald’s and got Happy Meals for everybody. In fact, the reason why the baby was crying to begin with was because he was hungry. The bottle of milk left in his crib had turned rancid.
If the infant, nicknamed Baby Daniel by police, doesn’t survive, his father will be charged with felony murder through aggravated child abuse, police said. Baby Daniel is currently in a coma and his condition is not getting better. The other children are in Department of Children’s Services care.

Child abuse in ANY form makes me sick but this story just like the Ben Sargent story really hit me hard. It wasn’t until I watched the video & saw that the board that supports the crib mattress was broken & then when I saw a police officer holding that little hand I got so choked up. It makes me just want to drive there & be with him. No child should be abused. It makes me so sad. And why is it that those who abuse seems to have super breeding abilities

Whether Baby Daniel lives or not, both parents should go straight to prison, right after having all their parental rights removed. I think we should, at the very least, be allowed to try this idea out, and see if it works. And it would save the taxpayers some money, too. Because the only ones we would have to support for any length of time would be the ones who just beat the kids. The ‘beaters’ could kill the ‘rapists’, and if we could inject the ‘rapists’ with a deadly STD before the rape, the ‘beaters’ wouldn’t live very long after they kill the ‘rapists’. It would be a win-win situation!

I just watched the news clip—I just can’t believe this ASSHOLE’s calmness during the 911 call. Seriously, they always seem to act so surprised that the baby stops breathing after a severe head beating.
Poor little baby…he was only hungry. If he wasn’t being fed, then I bet he wasn’t being changed either…he probably had a bad diaper rash or soiled diaper too.
What’s so sad is as we read these stories, there is always another Baby Ben or Baby Daniel out there right now being abused or neglected…I wish we could help them.

I am new here in posting. I read this site often though. All of the cases bother me, this one really bothered me. I have 3 sons, my baby who is 16 mths, has Tetralogy of Fallot and had Open Heart Surgery last March. That picture of that baby Daniel laying there on his back, tubes and all brought back memories, from his birth traumatic birth to his surgery 4 mths later. I know this is not about me at all, but all I kept thinking of when I saw these pictures is how I would have given my life at that time to make all of his pain go away and make him healthy, and here some monster did this to their own son!!! Why? I guess we will never really know because there is no reason for it, so there is no real why, just excuses, lack of patience, lack of empathy, lack of everything that makes you a good human. I feel this “father” lost his chance to prove himself fit for life, he failed, it is time for us to take out the trash. He has no purpose.
I really want to try and find a way to help the boy, if anyone knows of anyway please let me know. If he has needs, specific things let me know.
I think it is one thing for me to come here and read these cases of horrific abuse/murder, but I better do something to make a difference when I can. Again please let me know. I am praying for him. Please update if you know anything.

I couldn’t see the update of the boy’s condition. This story totally turned my stomach. I cannot imagine how much fear went through that little boy. He certainly didn’t understand what was happening to him. While I am happy to hear that the boy is doing better, I worry what life will be like for him now. Especially if he successfully recovers, which in my understanding is highly unlikely.
As a mother of 3 (15, 10, and 6 months) the comprehension that people could do this is beyond me. No my family and I aren’t “well off” but neither do we live in poverty and put things above our children… WTF people! When you have kids, your life is no longer YOUR life. It’s THEIR life. If you can’t fricking deal with that, then too damn bad, make some families very happy and give the babies up for adoption to people who will appreciate a child that they have yearned for many years.

That poor little boy his first birthday was on March 11th & he was in the hospital. Now he’s dead. The last article I read said the “dad” said he was angry because he was out of cigarettes & took it out on him. Poor thing was just hungry.
I wish I could go back to the date of this picture pick up that little boy & take him home away from these abusive assholes.
